I have nest hubs, thermostats, smoke alarms, and doorbells. I so badly wanted to replace my arlo cams with nest cams. After a year with the nest cams, I’m going back to Arlo. The nest cams are slow to access, have poor battery life, and really just unimpressive.
Hi there coloradotrav, we greatly appreciate you for investing high on Google Nest devices, and thanks for the feedback you provided on Nest Cam (battery). We’re sorry to learn it didn’t meet your expectations, and we understand your decision to go back to a different camera manufacturer. If you want to consider using the Nest Cams, you can extend the battery life of your camera by adjusting video quality, length of video clips, time between recorded events, and using activity zones to monitor specific areas. Check this link for more details: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10901611
Also, you can adjust the wake-up sensitivity of your camera to decide when to wake up and start recording. If the wake-up sensitivity is low: - It decreases the range at which the camera or doorbell can sense activity. - It increases the amount of time it takes for the camera or doorbell to wake up once it senses activity.
Here's how to adjust the wake-up sensitivity in your camera or doorbell's settings: - Open the Home app Google Home app. - Touch and hold your device's tile. - Tap Settings Video Wake-up sensitivity. - Choose the High Low setting.

Great camera, extremely clear picture, long battery life. The best part is with the magnetic mount the camera is 100% adjustable up, down or side ways. You can’t do that with a stationary camera.

Easy to install and great video quality as you can expect from Nest cameras however the lack of support for these new cameras with the Nest App is a massive disappointment. Maybe when the Google Home app catches up and I can see all my live views on one page again it will feel like a one stop solution again.
Hi LawnAdmin, thanks for sharing your feedback about Nest Cam (Battery). We apologize that you’re unable to use the Nest app for your device.
Our priority is giving our customers choice and making devices for every home, and we’re continuing to support the Nest App. New Nest cameras and doorbells are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Doorbell and Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app, so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place. Also, using the Google Home app provides you with a lot of benefits including access to Google's trusted security platform and access to other Google tools and with seamless integration with other Google devices.
Hello there, user826093. Thanks for giving us feedback on Nest Cam (battery). We’re glad that you find it great, and we hear your concern about its battery life.

On the other hand, you might want to consider connecting your camera to a power outlet with the included power adapter for continuous power and to keep the battery charged. Please note that the power adapter included with the Nest Cam (Battery) is not weatherproof and not intended for outdoor use, and you can use a compatible weatherproof cable (5 meters or 10 meters). Contact your retailer for product inquiry.

I'll start this out by saying I am a huge user of Google hardware products. Many Pixel phones, earbuds, Google Wifi, 2 Nest thermostats and several Nest Cam IQs. Generally super happy with them across the board.
Then we get to the new Nest Cam Battery. Was super excited for it since one of my Cam IQs died (and with warranty that's too short).
Ordered direct from Google, huge mistake there and should have purchased from BBY so I could have returned it.
My biggest gripe is that one MUST use the Google Home app to setup and control the new battery cams. As many other users have complained about this issue, I can also attest that the Home app is a terrible, terrible experience. Gone are the days where clicking on the Nest app brings up the camera feeds right away. Now you need to click on the Home app, then click on the Camera button and hope the cameras "connect." Also, if my battery cam is not plugged in I understand that it's not powered all of the time to conserve battery but don't you think when I click into Cameras in the Home app that I want to see that live view as well?
And then there's the online experience. Why remove the ability to view the footage on a PC????? I use that feature at least once a month and it's invaluable. Oh well, guess Google knows better.....
And there's no time stamp within the Home app so god forbid I need to send footage to someone they'll just need to guess when the recording was from.
And finally, it's 2021. Why can't we have a 2k or 4k camera?
BK
P.S. for the Google person that reads this, I don't want your typical form response that you're always listening. I don't believe that so don't waste our time with a canned response. Just please get this feedback to the product team so they can understand what paying customers think of their product they released too early and without much though.
Hi bkinnk, thanks for being an advocate of Google Nest products. It's unfortunate to hear about your disappointment with Nest Cam (Battery), and we're sorry to hear that you had to return it.
We wanted to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, and Google Assistant. It offers you a lot more benefits since you have access to Google´s security features as well. If you´re willing to try, you may set up your other Nest cameras to the Google Home app. Here´s a guide that you can follow to set up your Nest cameras on the Google Home app: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9893532
We understand that for most users, a higher resolution is always better. However, video resolution is only one factor that impacts video quality, and it shouldn’t be the only deciding factor when choosing a camera. Your Nest Cam (Battery) has full HD resolution with HDR video quality that’s optimized for a clear view in bright sun or dark. Keep in mind that it also helps save battery power.
We'll make sure to pass along the details of your feedback to our product team. We're hoping you will reconsider and use Nest Cam (Battery) in the future. Our support would be happy to help you with your support concerns, if you can reach out to us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

First off, great service from Best Buy! Secondly, cameras are great. Wonderful picture, great audio, such a great experience!

Works perfect for what we wanted. We put it up with a little over half a charge and after a little over a month is when we finally had to charge it back up. Video quality is good. Sound quality is decent. I recommend

AVOID this Google product! Battery for Google camera lasted only 7 DAYS! Two different Best Buy sales people told me the Google camera battery would give me approximately 6 months with a short recharge. The Google camera battery lasted only 7 days. I installed the Google camera over my driveway, and set “motion" to only detect “vehicles" and “people." Best Buy won’t let me return this product after 15 days from purchase, so I’m stuck with this junk (it sat in the box a week before I was able to install). Best Buy and Google should be ashamed of this pathetic product. I can’t believe anyone at Google (or Best Buy, for that matter) would put a stamp of approval on this product. I will never buy a Google camera product again, their batteries can’t be trusted. Based on Best Buy’s terrible sales advise and return policy on such a terrible product, I don’t know that I could ever trust purchasing from Best Buy again. AVOID!

I agree with most of the other reviews that this camera is a giant leap backwards. Google has owned Nest for 7 years and still can't figure it out. I'm shocked they put this thing out there as a "new" camera. Do yourself a favor and look at a different camera system. Google has run Nest into the ground. Just like others have said buying any of the "new" cameras will force you to use the Google Home app which is complete garbage compared to the Nest app. With the Nest app I can open the app and see all of my cameras instantly. Not so easy with the Google Home app. They try to make it look like a "one stop shop" type of app but in reality they are just trying to sell you more services. Google should be ashamed they put out a product like this and called it "new". The quality is the same as my 6 year old cameras which says a lot. I have been a subscriber to Nest Aware since it came out and products like this make me want to jump ship to a different camera manufacture.
I had a Nest IQ 4k Outdoor camera and it went bad just outside of the warranty so they wouldn't do anything for me. The sensor went bad so the video was pink/purple instead of color. A quick search of the problem online and you will see it's a known issue. They suggested I buy this piece of junk in it's place. This is the highest quality outdoor camera they offer and it's a complete travesty.
I understand some people will want a battery in the camera and I can see how that would be helpful. But the fact that I can just walk up to the camera, grab it quickly and walk off is a complete joke. If your camera is within arms reach or a jump, someone can just walk off with it. That kind of defeats the purpose of a "security camera". I'm honestly still in shock they are selling this product. One of the largest companies in the world and this is what they come up with after 7 years in the game???? I think that is pretty much a red flag of things to come……
Also, to whomever reads this from Google. Save me the canned "Please contact customer service and we would love to help you" reply. I tried that and you told me to buy this camera. Shame on you!
Hi JZ007, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback about Nest Cam (battery). We regret hearing your disappointment with the new Nest Cam.
Our long term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, and Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app. Users with older cameras can view their camera feeds in the Google Home app alongside the new Nest Cams. Our team is working on bringing full functionality to the Google Home app so all of your cameras can be set up and controlled in one place.

WOW, this is super clear, and very clean. The camera itself is much bigger in size from what I thought it would be, but once you mount it you will forget about it.
The installation is easy, and fast, no issues.
The cool features: The camera turns off when it's not on the mount.
It charges really fast. Has and option for a stand, and long cable to keep it plugged across a longer distant for mounting. It's battery operated, and it last for a long time on battery from my usage.
This is a must have if you need some form of security, and or viewing your home from afar. Create an activity zone for more alerts if you need to. There are no fees when using the record function, and you do not need to use the internet for recording.
I love it...

Setup is easy with the QR Code. The video quality is good, it's only 1080, but that is all that I need. Battery life is also good.
I don't like that you can not turn off the LED light and a chime goes off prior to 2 way communication. These features are configurable for other cameras I currently own. The field if vision is also pretty bad.
3 hours of video history is pretty lousy, I can not rely on that if I take a long trip out of town. Basically you're being forced to get a subscription.
There are more cons than pros with this camera. This camera would make a great baby monitor, but I wouldn't use it for security.
Hi there BigRoy, we're glad to hear that you had an easy time setting up your Nest Cam (Battery), and that you liked the video quality and battery life. We apologize for your disappointment with some of its features.
An alternative option to control the LED status lights for your Nest Cam (Battery), is to use the Google Home app to control your Nest Cam (Battery) to change the brightness of its LED status light. Here's how: - Open the Google Home app. - On the home screen, tap your camera or doorbell. - Tap Settings. - Select Video. - Under “Status light brightness,” choose High, Auto, or Low.
For the best experience with your Nest Cam (Battery), we recommend getting the Nest Aware subscription, as it provides more value for your money with features that include 30 days of Video History, 24/7 continuous recording, access to clips and time lapses and even customizing your own activity zones. You won't ever have to worry about missing any events as these videos and clips are all saved onto the Cloud. All these features can be viewed and controlled at the tip of your fingertip using the Google Home App.
We're always looking for ways to improve your experience. For any other support concerns you may have, please reach out to our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Great camera and easy to set up. In order to get the longest battery life I adjusted the settings in app. I truly enjoy how easy setup was. Looking forward to adding more camera to my home.
