I got this to run some streaming apps instead of replacing my broken Chromecast. Read some articles on Google - you can do a lot with this box which you can't with the Chromecast. Minus 1 star because it asks you to log in to Netflix when casting Netflix from your phone. Also, the remote sucks.

Use it mainly for Kodi but Netflix app works perfectly as well as Archos video player app for network movies streaming from PC . Use it only on HD TV's that are not "smart" and eliminating the need for cable boxes. The Chromecast feature allows streaming (casting) xfinity apps from tablets and smartphones. Purchased (2) Nexus players and with the existing Chromecast dongle, only need one Xfinity HD DVR but can cast to additional HD TV's saving $$$ per month for turning in the additional HD cable boxes.

It's fast, easy to set up, and leaves a small foot print what more can you ask for? Runs great on my AC router. I bought two.

Considering it's fairly new, all of the features are not fully developed. As in, there aren't many games or apps available. Even with that in mind, i do love it & i think it has great potential. Netflix & hulu have a way better platform compared to my apple tv. Buy it now, update later.

Very simple to use and a better alternative to Chromecast when it is going to be permanently used with one TV. Takes the burden off the device casting as opposed to the Chromecast. For example, SlingTV is almost unusable using Chromecast since SlingTV app is buggy in the first place. With the SlingTV app on the Nexus Player it works more as expected.

I snagged one of these on sale for $49.99. For the price it is way more versatile and convenient than a Chromecast. I am not a big fan of having to kill my battery to stream video to a chromecast. This has a remote and runs Android TV. Casting is built in so you can still stream if you'd like, but the built in apps and remote are a much better experience. You can also play games, new and emulators, on this device. Note that it has been discontinued so it maybe hard to find.

At the time of this writing, the Nexus Player is a great concept, but still leaves a little to be desired. No HBO Go for one. Also, not a lot of games are compatible yet, and the app selection is a little sparse. I would compare this to Chromecast in its first year - its just going to take a little time to feel like a complete solution.

I got the nexus player for $60. And for being an expensive Chromecast this product delivers everything it needs to. It lets me stream from my phone or laptop to it, but also lets me launch an app like hulu or Netflix, essentially blending the tv box with a Chromecast. For $60, well worth the somewhat limited app options for now.

The main reason was the sales price of $49 and works well with Kodi TV (xbmc). Streams all media that I have so far...wireless only (no ethernet port) but streams are smooth.

I own a Chromecast (first gen.), and I am still quite satisfied with it. But sometimes I thought it would be better to have a dedicated remote, and that was the reason why I chose Nexus player over Chromecast 2. This Nexus player is almost same with Chromecast, which is good, and it comes with a remote. But the problem is the remote. Within a month, down key stopped working, so I exchanged it (thanks BestBuy!), and the exchanged one has the same problem: right button needs to be pressed hard. In addition, Nexus player sometimes freezes, three to five times a lot more than the Chromecast that I own. As of today (Dec. 2015), chromecast 2 comes with $20 Google Play credit, while Nexus player does not. Considering all these, (useless remote, almost same functionality with Chromecast, no $20 Google play credit), it is more reasonable to recommend Chromecast 2, which is also a lot cheaper.

Bought this to replace a Roku stick that was laggy and horribly un-responsive. This has been awesome. Its lighting fast and applications are wicked stable. Love that HGTV and Food Network have full episodes of shows on their apps - those are the two stations I miss from cutting my cable. Two gripes - Casting is hit and miss when running straight from a device with Android. Casting within Google apps seems to work well. Youtube app occasionally stops displaying videos. Happened twice when first purchased, but hasnt happened since. Maybe its had an update. Overall, a Solid great looking device with some serious promise in the future.

Most media players offers shades of the same capabilities, so what distinguishes one service from another? For us the Google Nexus was a GREAT CHOICE in that the hardware, being dual-band, offered OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE. We use it daily and couldn't be happier ... we highly recommend it!

I'm am android fan. Have an Apple TV for the family, and got the Nexus Player for a second tv so I can easily cast, stream and access my movies. It's worked flawlessly and is easily controlled by the included remote or my phone via the app.

The Nexus TV is a great home entertainment device. Easy access to all sorts of media options... Everything from Google (YouTube, Google Music, Play Movies). Also with other apps, like Plex or Kodi, you can access media on your computer! Online providers are coming around.. Netflix, Hulu, ABC, and more are available too... Lastly, it doubles as a Chromecast device as well, so you can use your phone too...

I have been using this product for about two month, and it is really simple and useful. As it has an Android, you can install and copy whatever you need and it will work. The voice to speech from the remote is awesome. Unfortunately, i am having issues with my remote, but i will claim the warranty

The Nexus Player is a great lightweight TV set-top device. In addition to being able to do everything a Chromecast can, you can also install apps made specifically for Android TV to stream shows, play games using an Android or Xbox 360 controller, and even use it as a cable box if you're running it on the same network as an HDHomeRun. It's often on sale for around $50 and it's a great value at that price.
