Great Idea but lacks support for all Video formats

I read many reviews on this product and decided to take a chance on it. Ultimately, I returned this product because it did not meet my needs. That doesn't mean the product wouldn't work for you. Here's what you need to know about the devices, software versions, and video formats I tested with so that you can make an informed decision. My iPhone is getting a little long in the tooth so some newer Apple devices could potentially handle the transfer process better. - SanDisk Extreme Plus 64 GB MicroSD card - iPhone 6s 64GB w/ 20GB of avail mem & iOS 11.4.1 - GoPro Hero 6 w/ version 02.01 software - GoPro App w/ version 4.6.1 (2684) To start, I opened the box to the Quik Key and was surprised at how small the device was. It looked great and would have been great for travel; especially with the sleeve and carabiner that it came with. When I tried to plug it into my iPhone, the neck wasn’t long enough to reach through my OtterBox Commuter series case. That was strike one. I would be able to live with that if the product worked flawlessly, so I proceeded to take off the case. I plugged in the key and immediately it asked if I wanted to allow the device access. A simple confirmation and the GoPro app was launched. Very nice and simple. For the first test, I tried to download a 45 second video filmed at 1080p @ 60 fps. It failed to successfully download multiple times before finally providing a successful download. Strike two. I did some more testing because I really wanted this to work. I tried a 30 second video filmed at 1080P @ 120 fps as well as a third video filmed at 2.7K @ 60 fps. Both failed at the higher resolution and frame rate and I could not successfully download these videos through multiple attempts. I was able to successfully get a 15 second clip from the 1080p @ 120 fps video. Now part of the big reason I wanted this product to work is because download times to your device through WiFi can be a little slow. So I thought a direct connection via the lightning port should solve that. I was sorely disappointed and that was the third strike. In every case, WiFi transferred the videos faster than the Quik Key. Not to mention, WiFi was much more reliable. The good news is that most of these problems could likely be resolved via a software update, but I wouldn’t hold your breath as I noticed GoPro no longer has the Quik Key for iOS available on their web site. Hopefully they are working on a new and improved version to correct the shortcoming of this product. But it could be a sign that GoPro and Apple couldn’t agree on the communication software for the many different devices and video formats that people use. Below are download times and information. Download time info through WiFi (5Ghz connection): 45 second video shot at 1080p @ 60 fps – 27 second download time 30 second video shot at 1080p @ 120 fps – 56 second download time 30 second video shot at 2.7K @ 60 fps – 1 minute & 11 second download time Download time info through Quik Key iOS: 45 second video shot at 1080p @ 60 fps – 34 second download time (7 seconds slower) after multiple failed attempts 30 second video shot at 1080p @ 120 fps – Never successfully downloaded with at least 5 attempts 30 second video shot at 2.7K @ 60 fps – Never successfully downloaded with at least 5 attempts 15 second video shot at 1080p @ 120 fps – 44 seconds to convert the file to 60 fps, plus another 36 seconds of download time for a total of 1 minute & 20 seconds (24 seconds slower and it was only half the original 30 second clip)

Between my husband and I we have had 5 of these. He is on his 2nd one and it doesn't work. I just exchanged for the 3rd time and finally got one that works. (When plugged in it will ask if it can connect with the app when you select "allow" nothing shows up under your photos/videos) My husband emailed go pro and I called. He was given the option to send a photo of receipt and sd card for a replacement. After 30 min on the phone with a rep that couldn't figure out what the issue was, I was told I would be contacted by someone who knew more. I was going on 7 days of not being called back before exchanging for the 2nd and 10 days before exhanging for the third. I'm just glad I finally got one that works. If you get one that doesn't work make sure you keep exchanging it until you get one that works. This will extend your return time each time you exchange it, which sure beats being stuck with a item that doesn't work and can't be returned. Not sure what the deal is with these, but now that I have one that works it's a must have!

I purchased one of these because my local bestbuy was out of the Apple SD readers. Wow, what a mistake. It won’t download videos from the GoPro stating “video not supported” even though the video was take on the darn GoPro hero 5. Pictures error out the first time I try to download every time. Can’t view or import photos any way other than the GoPro app. You can’t download or view anything BUT the GoPro videos and pictures that it doesn’t download. In addition, when you plug it in you not even get to see thumbnails of the files to select to download. All you see is black that indicate if it is or is not a video. Ridiculous! Everything was attempted on iPhone and iPad running newest firmware and app versions.

So I read some of the reviews before purchasing this. First of all, the actual resolution of video you can use this with is LIMITED, it doesn't say so on the description, the only place where it say so is on the GoPro website itself, in fine prints. Second my unit was dead on arrival, much like a lot of the other reviewers here, it connects and ask for permission but doesn't actually do anything. This is certainly a quality control issue. I would not recommend this product at all, first you have to be lucky to get a working unit, some reviewer here is on their 5th to get it to work. Second if you shoot anything over 1080p this won't work, so forget it. Also the toggle itself won't work if you have a case over any of your apple product, the connector is very WIDE and very short.

I do not recommend this product unless you have a camera go pro and all go pro I was looking for the photofast in my local store and the one that was attending me came with this one that is compatible with iphone yes, but not because I have a DAsh cam and I want to see the videos on my iphone but as this is for gopro it lasts a lot of loading i can not be transferred to the iphone is a problem. THE ONLY GOOD IS THE DESIGN AND THE WEATHER COVER. This product makes my life impossible, I say it because before I had one of those who use the iUSB app I bought it in Amazon and it was so simple to use it until it stopped working.

This is a nice little product to take along with you to get your videos off your GoPro and on to your IPad or iPhone (in theory). It keeps you from having to take a laptop along when you travel. I could not move my videos over to my iPad because I used too high resolution. I could view my videos but not transfer them. The GoPro app kept telling me to record it again in lower resolution. That is difficult to do when your videos are of snorkeling and your trip is over! Maybe I had some user error but no matter what it was frustrating.

If you are on the go and want to see your footage before getting back home, get this Quik Key. I read and viewed mixed reviews on Best Buy and You Tube that it does not work, but it actually worked on my 1st try. Easy to use. All you need to do is make sure you have the GoPro Capture app (I think now it's called GoPro app), sign in, put the media card from your GoPro in the Quik Key, slide the Quik Key in your iPhone and everything including videos & burst photos appear immediately....literally, this is a major time saver.

If your always on the go and you don’t have time for the wireless transfer of videos and photos from your GoPro this is perfect for you! There is one down side. You can’t be lornger than 1080p. If you record 2k or 4K then it will scale it down to 1080 as you transfer it. (Making your transfer a lot longer!) But if you need to make something fast and on the go, using their app to edit you can make something great! And save the 4K for later on.

First off, I don't know if this works for anything other than the GoPro app, but it works great with it. It's immediately recognized and accessing the videos and images is quick and easy. You can even edit straight from the card. I only shoot 1080p, so I don't know how well it works on higher res files. And I'm using an iPhone 6S or a 1st gen iPad mini. The iPhone works better, obviously. Best $ I've spent on a go pro accessory.

This has got to be one of my favorite GoPro accesories. I often get too lazy to go through the process of connecting to the GoPro through Bluetooth/wifi using the app particularly when traveling because it tends to kill the battery of the GoPro was faster. This is pretty convenient, I just pop in the micro sd, plug into my phone and open the app. I say it's worth it. Makes posting pictures on social media super easy.

Me and my boyfriend travel and take tons of photos using our Gopro. I would have to wait for him to upload the photos to the computer before I could go through then send it to my email and finally post them. But with this device I can insert the card in it and plug it into my phone and instantly pull up the photos and upload them to my phone quickly and easily to post them right away!!!

I have a Hero 4 and a Session and I was tired of having to link each camera up to the Go Pro app. When I bought it, it did not work. I contacted Go Pro and they sent me a new one after speaking to me. Now that I have one that works, I love it! It saves so much time to just take the memory card out of the camera and plug it into my iPhone or iPad. If you use your Go Pro quite a bit, this is a must have!

Google this item before you buy it. Lots of problems. Mine worked fine about a week. Then I just quit. Shoes the video files are corrupted, however they are fine when viewed on my desktop. Contacted gopro. They sent a new one, it doesn’t work either. Overall wouldn’t buy this. I tried multiple devices, uninstalled the apps, and went through troubleshooting with gopro.

I wanted to have something to quickly access micro SD card from my GoPro Hero 6 without a wireless connection. Does the trick, but I understand this is not compatible with anything other than the GoPro app on my iPhone. Also, I have tried to download videos from my DJI Mavic Air -- not compatible!

This product may need some kind of update or the app needs an update not sure which. I tried to transfer videos may times with no luck, it never did show an error message and acted like it was doing something and then nothing was there. on the hand pictures would transfer just fine. so I don't think this product ready for the public just yet. Returned for refund.

I saw this on the GoPro web site and was hooked! I have used it a few times and am very impressed with how well and fast it uploads. I bought it mainly for traveling, so I can "dump" the content of the sd card daily! It now has a perm home attached to my travel backpack.

This is a great product. I recently bought this for my GoPro and took it to Comic-Con. After filming, I took the microSD card from the camera and put it in the tool and connected it to my iPhone. I then edited and uploaded video to social media while we stood in line.

This was cheap and broke when I was using it for my trip to Easter Island. The first time I used it, I had to wiggle it around in the iphone charger port for the light to function and for the pop up to appear. The memory card gets stuck if you stick it in too far, and eventually after day 2, the card reader broke in half.

This was one of the most reasonably priced go pro items that just works and is plain awesome. When the bluetooth or wifi connection is being flaky or too slow, give up and pull the microSD and quickly load and edit your files on the phone or iPad with ease. Get one while you can. Oh and there is on for those android users too.
