I don't use them as ambient lights but on my back back porch. 4 lightbulbs are connected on each floor and I wanted to conserve energy because having all 4 lights on at the same time seemed wasteful. These bulbs do take a second or two to turn on compared to the standard but it doesn't bother me.

Set routines variety of colors and even pulse with music if you like and seem to be very durable last longer than regular bulbs.
