Although made of plastic, the sound quality is excellent for the lowest cost mic from the excellent Zoom product line. Just be careful when attaching the mic to a camera hot shoe or mic pole as the screw is plastic (instead of metal) so not to strip. I have used as a stereo microphone for my Sony Alpha 58. You can manually control the input level in the Zoom H1 itself, which is crucial (much better than typical shotgun mics in the same class). I love the illuminated LCD which is perfect when shooting in low light environments. I have not used the H1 as a recorder so I cannot provide an opinion on that area.

This is a great recorder for the price. Capture and download is easy to garage band.

The H1's a great addition to any content creator's toolkit. The replaceable micro sd is super handy, it picks up clean audio and has in input for lapel mics for interviews and other applications. Highly recommend and great value!

This recording device was easy to use and self explanatory.

As a hand held recorder, it picks up every noise from your hand which is expected, but when used with a lavaliere mic, shotgun mic or any other external mic it works exceptionally well. Also using the onboard mic place on a stand on its own works ok. still picks up noise from vibrations of the stand.

I hide these on set as an extra just-in-case mics.

I have a couple Sony digital audio recorders and this Zoom H1. The Zoom is SO much easier to use than the Sonys. And for the price, I really like that you can record higher quality wav audio.

The technology is awesome! The way it sounds is superior to other audio recorders of the same price range. The case that's built around the technology is least to be desired. It's hard to press some of the buttons on the side because they are too small. I would like to see some more thought going into the design of this recorder. It's not bad as it is but would be nice if it was re-engineered.

Worked well. Recommended to a friend. The recorder can be used by students and beginners as well as veteran users. It is very practical to meet your needs.

I needed a simple to use quality recorder that can start recording quickly. I also didn't have a huge budget for such a device. This was perfect!

I bought this for some basic recording to compare against the microphone in a DSLR. The results were amazing....this is one nice sounding recorder that beats anything in its price range. Sure, you can find something out there that blows this little recorder out of the water but it's going to cost significantly more. The plastic body feels cheap and forces one to treat it more carefully but should last.

I love this little recorder! It's super easy to use and offers both mp3 and wav recording formats. The sound is great for the price.

Nice little recorder; does the trick. I use it to record my singing over a recorded sound track, then move the MP3 file to my PC, then cut a CD that I can play in my car - for practice.

Works well as a recorder itself, but when paired with a mic it works just okay, the pre amps aren't very good.

The microphones are very good. The playback results are clear. But the controls are too complicated to easily use if you are transcribing interviews.

I was a notetaker and used this to record the people speaking. I was able to plug in the headphones to the device and raise the volume so I could hear better. There are always people who mutter under their breath which-or cut in to an ongoing discussion. There was no ambient noise hum. The device was a great time saver.

I'm an avid videographer and just recently jumped into the world of capturing audio. I picked up the H1 Handy Recorder along with a shotgun mic to start shooting documentaries and interviews. So far I am very impressed! The battery life on it is pretty swell and it dishes out great-sounding audio (much better than a camera's built-in mic). I'd recommend this to any videographer looking to increase his or her production value!

Good recording quality, but was very disappointed by the quality of the construction of this unit. It is entirely plastic and not the quality that is expected from Zoom. The operation of the unit can be confusing, and the door to the micro SD memory card is flimsy.
