Quality Without Breaking Bank
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup for the Hisense 55H9D model requires two people. The box has 4 hinges at the bottom that must be unclipped for easy removal. After taking it out of the box, you will see two special handles that must be used to carry the TV with the assistance of a second person. These must be removed with a Philips screw driver if you plan on mounting it on a wall or TV stand with mount. Otherwise, you can leave them on if you plan on using the provided TV stand base. The only 2 cables you need are the TV plug, which is surprisingly a two prong connection and rather unobtrusive, and an HDMI 2.0 cable. The key feature of this Hisense TV is the HDR feature and 4K capabilities. Watching content in 4K is as easy as plug and play. Watching content in HDR requires navigation of several menu options. This quickly became a frustrating moment for a new-comer to 4K and HDR, but a quick search of a YouTube video explained the basics necessary to understand where to navigate to to get the best features of HDR. To save you the trouble, you have to press the menu button on the remote control, then settings, then picture, then go down to HDMI 2.0 format and change that option from standard to enhanced format. The performance of this TV is stunning. Even before I figured out how to change from standard HDR to enhanced HDR I could see the jump from 1080P to 4K. Adding the HDR effect makes the colors look more natural and feel more realistic. The HDR in this TV is HDR-10, which is compatible with the Xbox One S and the upcoming Xbox One X. That being said, HDR gaming is playing on a whole different level. The remote control has an extremely useful PICTURE button that allows you to switch from various kinds of HDR pre-setups, one of which includes HDR gaming which provides you with low input lag. The Hisense TV exceeds my expectations and has quickly made a name for itself in my household. Although you can watch content with lights on, you do start to lose quality of the image the brighter the room, but the aforementioned picture button can help with that. The price for the TV in terms of value is great for those looking to upgrade to a stunning image. Hisense may not be widely known yet, but I can see it being in many households soon because of it’s quality for price value. I highly recommend this product for people who want to upgrade to a 4K HDR tv without breaking the bank. More so if you have an Xbox One S or if you plan on buying the Xbox One X. If gaming isn’t your scene, then I’d still recommend the TV if you love streaming your content, as this is a smart TV with dedicated buttons for Vudu, Fandango NOW, YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon. Those services work flawlessly straight from the TV and you wouldn’t need to install anything additional to cast to your TV.

Good looks, mildly 'smart' TV with clear sound and
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The TV frame looks great, with a very thin brushed metal bezel all around, and two metal legs. No plastic to be seen on the front. The rear of the TV is as thin as the screen, and most of the back is a single piece of metal covering the screen. From the center down, it has the components and connectors. The bottom widens and contains the speakers. There isn't much to distract from the screen. The logo below the screen is very subtle and doesn't light up, thankfully. There is a small LED to one side below the frame that's also the IR receiver, and that can also be turned off completely. Turning it on, there is an initial settings walk-through that's very good. I was able to set up Wi-Fi and inputs with few steps and no issues. Smart TV: It runs Opera TV app store, and while it has many of the popular like Netflix, Amazon. Vudu, Youtube or Plex, doesn't have Hulu, nor TV channel apps. Wi-Fi works great, and supports DLNA, USB ports and Miracast (Hisense calls It AnyView Cast). Windows 10 detects the TV but couldn't connect to it to share the screen via Wi-Fi. In my opinion, having Roku, Amazon Fire TV or even Chromecast support would've been a better choice. There is an app 'smartTVremote' for phones that kind of works, but it's half-baked at best. The saving grace is that it can be used as a virtual keyboard within apps. Inputs: It has 4 HDMI inputs, two on the side and two on the back. The two on the side are HDMI 2.0 (For 4K input). The first also supports MHL (To connect to some Android devices) and the second supports ARC (Audio Return Channel) to connect to a receiver or sound bar. The other two HDMI inputs on the back are HDMI 1.4 for HD inputs, but 4K players might not work on these. It also has analog inputs, Ethernet, optical audio output and headphone/line-out output. Two of the USB ports are 0.5A and one USB provides 1 Amp. There is also an antenna connector, and does have a tuner. The remote control is solid, well organized, with large and easy to press keys but it's rather large, no backlight, IR only and doesn't control other devices. Besides the smart TV apps, the menus on the TV are very intuitive, it's responsive, the inputs can be renamed, reorganized, system settings are very extensive, with good control over CEC functions, and very extensive audio and image controls, that can be set per-input. I was impressed on how much can be configured on this TV, audio settings with 5-band EQ, extensive color settings. Audio: It has four speakers: two on the bottom, rear-firing and two towards the bottom. There's a setting for wall-mounting audio (because of the rear-firing speakers). Overall sounds good, better than other TVs we had before. However there is not Bluetooth for night watching. The TV itself broadcasts a Bluetooth signal (HS SmartTV) but can only be used for internet access -- The Bluetooth deal doesn't make much sense. So, the best for last: Image. The screen is a 10-bit (HDR), 120Hz, 4K (3840x2160) panel with local dimming zones. It supports HDR10 but not Dolby Vision (Most TV's don't support it yet). Upscaling of HD and older videos looks very good to me. Watching 720p and 1080p content looks good, with no noticeable artifacts. HDR content from YouTube and Amazon Prime look very natural. It's not necessarily vibrant, but very natural and nuanced (Remember that this TV can be calibrated to each's tastes). Like on most other LCD TV's there's a small amount of blooming, and only shows in almost black scenes like closing titles, and it's not different than in other LCDs. Family is also impressed on how clear images are on this TV. As for the 'Smart TV' limitations, like in most TVs, the 'Smart' part is somewhat gimmicky, and consider adding a 4K capable AppleTV, Amazon Fire, Roku or Chromecast Ultra. So get this TV for how it looks on and off, which is very good, not for the 'Smart' factor.

Apps are not the best. Remote is C-. Wi-fi on this Tv and connect ability is not so good. Gaming with the HDR and wide color gamma is top tier. Hisense name Brand sucks but they have pieced together a decent TV

Absolutely Stunning!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is absolutely no way that I could be more impressed with this TV! Everything from the design, the setup to the performance is perfect. The TV comes in a simple to unpack box that allows for very easy setup. In fact, all you really do is lift the box up and pop in the legs (two easy screws to attach each one). Once installed, the legs (made of metal) keep it very sturdy. The screen is ultra thin and the TV is really not that heavy considering its size. Getting it up and running was a breeze. It recognized my wi-fi right away and as soon as I punched in the password and had it connected it notified me there was a software update available. This downloaded fast. At that point, I did the quick channel scan and we were up and running. Everything works fast. By this I mean that it responds to the remote fast, channels change fast, using Netfix & YouTube is fast. It's just fast. I might ad that when using it with Netfix & YouTube that I did not have any buffering of the content even with 4K sources. The remote is very nice as well. Easy to read and understand and has useful quick access buttons for such things as YouTube & Netfix (as well as a couple of other services I don't happen to use). You also get 4 HDMI ports along with 3 USB ports so there really won't be anything you can't connect. Now for the important stuff. Picture & sound. As for the sound, excellent. This set really cranks up if you need it to and the sound remains crystal clear. The settings have options for the usual adjustments (suround sound, equalizer and such) but in all honesty it sounds great right out of the box. I actually don't feel the need to hook up my sound bar to it (but I will :-) ). Now as for the picture, I really don't know how it could be better. The colors are perfect & natural with no color bleeding. The clarity of the screen is top notch with no hot spots or darkening of the corners that often happens with larger sets. The contrast is beyond my expectations. The blacks are deep and true. The combination of the 120 Hz refresh rate and the 240 motion rate combine to give you a very stable image even with the fastest of action. Keep in mind that you can get 4K TV's for less but you get what you pay for. The faster refresh rate along with the fact that this is a HDR UHD Smart ULED is what you are paying for. It's not just good enough to have a TV that can display 4K content, it needs to do it well. The list of feature on this set is incredibly long and goes beyond what many higher priced sets have. When you look at the list of feature this set has and you see how well it works it is an easy call to choose this set!

Impressive 4K Display
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're like me, you may not be totally familiar with the Hisense name, but I'm learning that they actually make decent TV sets that don't break the bank. The Hisense has a beautiful HD display that I've found to be very close to my Samsung 4K TV, although the colors on the Hisense weren't quite as bright (but still very good). Dark scenes also look good on the Hisense. It doesn't quite get as pure black as my Samsung does, but again it does very good and you can see the details of the dark scene clearly. If I wasn't doing a side-by-side comparison, I wouldn't be the wiser and would be very happy with the picture quality of the Hisense. The 55H9D features both 4K and HDR. There isn't a lot of 4K content out there yet: you'll need either Netflix's 4K streaming plan (and then, only certain shows are available in 4K) or you'll need to purchase a 4K Blu-ray player and UHD Bluray discs (make sure that the player doesn't simply upscale existing Blurays; you'll need a player that can specifically play 4K UHD discs). The 4K resolution is impressive on this TV set once you find some 4K videos to watch. The TV also features HDR which is a new technology that expands the available colors on the display by making some pixels brighter compared to non-HDR sets. Again, HDR content is a little sparse right now (and not all 4K videos have HDR), but having both 4K and HDR does "future-proof" this TV somewhat. More 4K HDR content will be coming in the future and will likely be as prevalent as 1080 HD content is now. One thing you'll likely find is that you need to set a little closer to the TV to fully appreciate the fine details that a 4K resolution brings. This TV is also "smart" and features apps for some popular services such as Netflix and YouTube, but sadly, Hulu is not available on this TV at this time. The app store doesn't seem to have as many apps as my Samsung TV, but this likely won't be an issue for you if you plan to hook up an Roku or Apple TV box anyways. The TV has 4 HDMI ports which is very nice and can be hard to find at this price point. When you figure that you'll likely be connecting your cable box, a Bluray player and a gaming console or two, 4 HDMI ports will certainly come in handy. Overall, the picture quality on the Hisense is impressive with good color and dark scene performance. The 4K HDR features provide some future-proofing for higher resolution content. The built-in apps may be somewhat lacking, but it has many of the basics such as Netflix and YouTube.

Best image I've seen from an LCD panel
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wasn’t sure what to expect from the Hisense 55H9D+ when I first got it. While most of the high end 4K TV’s with HDR support make use of OLED or other similar display technologies to pull off the deep blacks and vibrant colors that the tech typically boasts, this one uses a more conventional LCD panel paired with a much less conventional backlighting technology they call ULED that I’d never heard of before. Coming in with little more than what I’d seen from the professionally calibrated and optimized TV’s in the store to use as a point of comparison, I really had no idea what the set would end up looking like in my living room and its unfortunate giant, glare-inducing windows. After spending three days with it, I can say that it’s not the equal of an OLED set when it comes to displaying HDR content. But it’s also unquestionably the best image I have ever seen from an LCD based set. The ULED backlight essentially simulates the ability of OLED screens to precisely control the brightness of individual pixels by splitting the backlight into zones which can be locally controlled, so that darker areas of the screen have less light filtering through the LCD and brighter ones can be cranked up to really pop. When I first heard about this I was worried that the zones might turn out to be big enough to see through the LCD, potentially creating a distracting checkerboard like effect as they adjusted. But this hasn’t happened. Lines are crisp, text pops, and everything looks just as smooth as you’d expect from a high end 4K TV. There is also the usual suite of image enhancements: digital noise removal, motion smoothing (AKA: the soap opera effect) and a variety of color options. While these all do their intended job very well, outside of watching sports I think they end up doing more harm than help when it comes to the viewing experience. 4K films in particular have an unnerving plastic look with the motion smoothing turned up, making me wish that manufacturers wouldn’t ship their sets with the enhancements turned up by default. Turning them off is a bit annoying, particularly as a lot of the menus do suffer from some awkward translation, but there’s enough customization here to let you get everything where you want it with enough fiddling. And when you are watching sports, you can always switch to a pre-configured sports mode and bring back the soap opera effect without digging into the settings again. That said, there are two areas where the TV does disappoint. The first, and biggest, is in the smart functionality. Now, frequently the problem with smart TVs is that they stick underpowered processors and not enough RAM into the sets, resulting in very poor app performance. That isn’t a problem here. Response time is great, and there’s virtually no loading time for the apps. The issue is the software. Hisense opted to base all their apps on the Opera TV platform, which runs well but is notably lacking in developer support. They have support for Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Video, and Vudu, but that’s about it. There’s no HBO, Hulu, CBS All Access, or any of the other smaller but popular streaming services. As such I think that I’m pretty much going to need to rely on external streaming devices. The second is the sound. TV speakers are almost never good, but the frequency response on these is all over the place. As much as I tinkered with it, I could never really get it to sound right. It was rather hard to pin down exactly what was going on here, but it seemed like I could either get good bass response or good treble – never both at the same time. With external sound though, the audio enhancements built into the system can come into their own and provide a very satisfying experience. In the end, even with it's shortcomings, the 55H9D+ is still a very solid set with stellar image quality and an abundance of bells and whistles to tune it to exactly how you want it. Paired with a decent 4K streaming device and a good set of speakers, you have the makings of a top tier home theater experience.

Fantastic color and clarity.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had the pleasure of watching this TV over the past 6 days. This is a fantastic TV. First of all I’d like to say, this is my first big screen and HD TV. I’ve been totally blown away at how incredible the colors and clarity are. Set up was a breeze, I was watching a football game in less than 10 minutes. Football on a 55” big screen HD TV is the best Ive ever seen. The only issue I’ve had is getting used to watching TV and movies in HD and HDR, you see every flaw on whoever is on camera. Everything also appears to be filmed like a soap opera, very clear and true to life. It does take som getting used to. But that is not a bad thing just different for me. All the set up is done onscreen with easy to follow menus. The big surprise is this TV also has Bluetooth, so I was able to pair this with one of my Bluetooth speakers. Pairing was quick and easy, the sound just blew me away. With this set up you may never have to go to the theatre again. Live sports is as good as it gets. The biggest issue I’m going to have with this TV is deciding where to mount it. If you are looking for a big screen that has amazing colors and sound you cant go wrong with this. It’s as good as it gets.

Ultra Bright Ultra Clear
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hisense ULED 4K Smart TV is amazing. Plenty of connections (USBx3, HDMIx4, optical and more) that make attaching to gaming consoles and audio devices very easy. The picture is simply amazing. The colors are bright and vibrant, and the motion is smooth and clear. 4k images and so life like. Watching Ultra 4K movies on the Hisense 4K TV makes the viewing experience even more superb. Gaming on the Hisense is awesome! The HDR really brings compatible games to life. The sound quality is amazing as well. You can really hear the dialogue in the movie. The speakers really deliver the excitement of car chases and explosions. I would definitely recommend this Hisense ULED 4K HDR television to anyone that is looking for an amazing TV that makes your movie watching experience magical.

Thanks to all you reviewers and to Best Buy ...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can't add anything to what's been said already about features, settings, etc., so all I have to say in that regard is a hearty thank you to the "Most Helpful" reviewers who summarized everything in excruciating detail for prospective "techy" purchasers like me. Having purchased this TV nine days ago and connected it to my router via Ethernet to a Roku Ultra and thence via high-speed HDMI to HDMI port 1, let me echo one very important fact: the TV is set to HDCP 2.0. To enable HDCP 2.2 you must go into the Picture settings and change the HDMI/HDCP setting to "Enhanced." I did not do this at first and started getting "HDCP Unauthorized" error messages from my Roku, which lock up the Roku when they occur and can only be resolved by unplugging the Roku and plugging it back in again ... often causing the error to recur immediately. If you get these messages from your Roku, check that setting before assuming your HDMI cable is to blame. Now for the reason for the second half of my review's title. Last Sunday (March 4) prior to my purchase, I did a little shopping around and found the TV on a one-week-only sale at a popular membership warehouse for $498. (Yes, you read that correctly.) Best Buy matched the price! Thank you, Best Buy, for keeping a satisfied customer who has spent thousands of dollars at your stores since my first foray into home theater way back in 2001! First movie I watched was James Bond's Spectre in 4K via Amazon Prime via the Roku. Outstanding picture ... I prefer the look of the "Energy Saving" mode with smooth motion control; otherwise everything's pretty much default. Audio is 5.1 via the Hisense's digital audio out optical jack on the back of the TV into my Sony STR-DE875 (which I bought from Best Buy in 2003). The TV is wall-mounted and my audio stuff is mounted in an Insignia NS-HWD1848 "Gaming TV Cabinet" that I also purchased at Best Buy; see photo. Love the TV, love the price! Get this TV, you won't be disappointed at any price!

A solid TV for a good price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very hesitant about this TV. Quite frankly I haven' heard to much of the name Hisense and usually buy brand name but I read a lot of positive reviews on this particular model. So I thought why not Best Buy has a good return policy if I didn't like. Well guess what I haven't taken it back and really like this TV. I had a Samsung 1080p model and this TV blows away the Samsung picture. I received a PS4 Pro to go with this TV and the HDR makes the picture leaps and bounds better then the 1080p Samsung model. In general unless you want to spend a lot more on a TV this TV is in the Upper Class of TVs and if youir like me and worried about the name Hisense you can put that to bed because this TV is worth the price Best Buy is charging.
