    Decent 4k UHD TV

Most folks have never heard of Hisense. They make TV’s and other things. Kind of like that other leading TV manufacturer that came along a decade or so ago and made ok TV’s and now is probably close to, if not No. 1 in that respect. TV was well packaged and worked right out of the box. Setup was straight forward and fast enough to where I was able to start using it within about 5 minutes. The menus are nice and easily navigated. The remote is very responsive with doing so. It’s nice to have dedicated button to launch Netflix, Amazon, Youtube and such. Signing in to each of the above is straightforward. In some of these it will bring up an Android Style keyboard which for the most part is easy enough to use, but it should be much smaller, as it takes up the entirety of the screen. There’s no settings to adjust this keyboard, so it is what is. Being a 4k UHD Smart TV, it has to be said that these types of TV’s should come with HDR standard. This particular Model does NOT include HDR. With that said though, it would make some things look pretty bad. In some shows/movies, the image can be very dark, even with the Vivid picture settings. Turning the backlight up or the Contrast and Brightness will only aid so much, and adjusting these can degrade the image quality. For a TV in this price range I would recommend looking at some other sets especially when the majority around this price range offer much better image quality and include HDR. I will say, as for glare, the TV does an admirable job in not letting too much in. I’ve watched several types of shows on the TV and during the day, I’ve had no real complaints. There are no settings to adjust things like Motion. Picture Quality could definitely be made more adjustable. While there are some great options, adjusting some things such as the Motion are really needed. You can certainly go to great lengths to adjust the colors, which would make calibrating this much easier, providing you have the knowledge and tools to do so. Sound, is ok. It’s very tinny, not much depth. Adjusting things such as TruSurround can help, but it will not replace a Soundbar or surround sound system. It’s definitely needed in this instance, especially if you’re going to be watching movies on this TV. One thing I noticed with the TV is with my Tivo. Whenever I pause a show, be it live or recorded on the DVR, the TV will immediately start to emit this high pitched tone. The only way to stop this is to mute the audio. This is very frustrating and very troublesome as it’s just one more step you have to take if you’re going to step away with a show on pause. This problem also exists when outputting audio from the TV through a receiver. I’m using the Optical Out on the back of the TV to a 5.1 System. All the devices from the TV are connected through HDMI. Another thing I’ve noticed is that when you are using the Optical Out and say you’re fast forwarding through commercials the receiver will make sounds like it’s trying to acquire a signal with a popping like sound. If you’re going to be hooking this up to a Sound System, it’s best to connect the devices directly to the receiver and bypass the TV’s sound system entirely. One thing I noticed and was incredibly irritating, is when I was watching shows on Netflix, the remote for my stereo (which is infrared like the TV) would cause the show to pause and resume whenever I adjusted the volume. This pretty much made watching something on Netflix become a Stop-Motion film. This only occurs within the Netflix app. If you opt to use the apps built into the TV and use a Stereo and it’s anywhere near the TV, you’re going to want to use a Universal Remote that controls your multiple devices. One of my biggest issues with the TV is that it will Overscan things. I connected a flash drive with some 4k Content and the video was overscanned beyond the TV’s borders in that it was getting cropped. You cannot make any adjustments to anything that is not sent through a signal over the HDMI or other Video Inputs. Even still there was some content that I watched on the TV that was also getting cropped or overscanned beyond the borders For software, it would have been nice to include a sort of motion integration with the remote, or even a type of mouse input. Using the TV’s built in Web Browser, which is Opera is a real pain and it is very, very slow. It’s quite cumbersome to navigate. For the apps that are installed, Netflix does have issues. If you’re watching a show, then exit the app and come back later, you have to choose a different profile and then choose your profile again to get Netflix to get content updates again. This happens without fail every time you leave it. Amazon Video doesn’t exhibit this issue so that’s a plus. The TV’s App Store leaves a lot to be desired. It’s not intuitive and in trying to get an app to work I had to factory reset the TV, but it didn’t fix the problem. After I did the factory reset I was able to view the real App Store that should be on the TV called ViewD, however it quickly vanished after leaving it when I was unable to locate the PLEX App. There’s another App Store on the TV and you can install PLEX from it, however it will not start and just result in an error. There is currently no known solution. Calling Hisense Support I was merely referred to PLEX Support. It’s pretty widely known that this is an issue with any TV’s utilizing Opera or the ViewD App Stores. PLEX is a bit app for me to be able to use, and in order to do so on this TV, you have to go to their website using the TV’s Opera Web Browser, and with the terribly slow input movement, it’s very cumbersome. It works but is nowhere ideal. If you want to get the most use out of the TV I would recommend getting a streaming stick instead of relying on the touch and go apps from its app store. Despite these issues, this is still a fairly decent TV. Not for the MSRP but maybe on a deeply discounted sale. I can’t though in good consideration recommend this TV, especially for its “Smart” aspect.

Hisense will not stand behind their products! TV is terrific until it is not. Power issues caused us to contact support for Hisense and we were given the run around. Buy a standard brand. Don't fall for the affordability.

The Hisense H6 60" is a tough TV for me to review. It checks the right boxes, but doesn't execute well on any of them. For me, I buy a TV for one primary thing... picture quality. The Hisense out of the box produces a reasonable picture, but the most obvious issue is brightness. The TV just doesn't get very bright despite being a full array backlight and this is a huge shot in the foot to the fact that this TV supports HDR10 signaling. Once HDR is engaged the TV gets even darker. It simply does not have the light output capability to properly produce HDR. Probably the reason why there is basically no mention of HDR support on the box. It's there, but it might as well not be. Fortunately, the panel produces nice blacks and good color. I am doubtful it is a true 10-bit panel, but at this price I wouldn't expect one either. In game mode, lag appears to be low and the TV shows no screen tear which is nice, but the lack of processing really shows how bad 1080p content at 4K can look. That said, lag is tolerable in standard mode for non competitive gaming and looks wildly better. Sound is another area that the TV can't quite get right. Flat panels in general are notorious for their poor sound and the Hisense H6 is no different in this regard. It has reasonable bass response and can get pretty loud, but at the price of very audible distortion and the cabinet itself begins to rattle which really adds to the noise. The fact of the matter is Hisense has pretty stiff competition even in the entry level category. TCL and Vizio offer sets with HDR10 and Dolby Vision capability at or near this price. Even deeply discounted this TV is a question mark for me.

    Sluggish And Pixelated

For all of its claims, this television under-performs with a cable box and live action tv (sports). PROS: - Darks are dark, light colors are bright and bold - Volume gets loud - Setup was simple - Price CONS: - Overcompensated color/contrast/sharpness out of the box - Poor refresh rate, pixelation of fast action/sports - Sluggish response when navigating channel guide via cable box compared to old television set - Lots of apps (including Chinese apps?) we won't use and can't remove My biggest issue is with action and the refresh rate especially through an HD cable TV box. When watching an extremely slow drama (via Xfinity X1 cable TV for example) the picture quality is fine. Add motion, especially with live sports, and you can really see a struggle to refresh the screen. Our first viewing experience was Olympic speed skating and right off the bat both my wife and I commented on how pixelated (blurry) and choppy the picture was. Graphics stayed crisp, but the action on the television was downright frustrating to watch. Watching a basketball game was brutal. [We also noticed lag compared to our old 1080 HD tv when pulling up and navigating the Xfinity television guide.] We did watch some streaming Amazon content using the built-in Amazon app. Upon launching our streaming content, we noticed it seemed to take a bit longer for the feed to "get crisp" but that could be due to Internet issues and not the television--there really is no way to know, but our Internet is usually very solid. We also watched a documentary on DVD which seemed OK but again did not have much action in it. The default settings seem to overcompensate contrast and sharpness. The white snow against the dark mountains was actually too bright and the faces of athletes and interviewers were too sharp. I tried using presets (like movie mode, nighttime, sports, game, etc.) to take some of the harshness out but disliked the yellow or blue tint that these presets seemed to add to the whites. I tried to correct some of the image quality and clarity using the sharpness control but struggled to find a balance point we liked--or that reduced the pixelation effect for fast action sports. In the end, I could not get a CONSISTENT, high quality picture out of this set while watching TV through various methods (HD cable box, streaming, casting, or DVD/Bluray). Streaming via Netflix and Amazon or watching a DVD led to better picture quality (not "amazing" but definitely better than watching cable TV) however I still watch >50% of my television via cable and lots of sports. This television set will not work for me at this point in time. Internet forums suggest that the motion/refresh problem could be the TV --or-- it could be the cable provider overcompressing the HD feed. Either way, I was happier with my old standard HD picture through ALL methods of content delivery than I am with this 4K unit.

This is a very impressive TV, at an unbelievable price. Picture quality is excellent. Because it uses a VA LCD panel, colors are vivid and blacks are dark. On the downside, viewing angles aren't quite as good with this type of panel, but it hasn't been an issue for me. It's good up to 30 degrees before picture quality starts to degrade. The TV has features I did not expect in a set priced this low. It supports HDR, which is unheard of in this price range. I also like how the TV detects activity on an input and automatically changes to the active input. It also has 3 HDMI ports (two are 4k), as well as composite inputs. The apps, Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, and YouTube, work well, but I wouldn't say they load the fastest. We have a Roku, so don't need the built-in apps. I'm also pleasantly surprised with the sound quality. It lacks bass, like every other TV, but it's about as good as sound gets from any TV I've every heard. The TV did freeze once and had to be unplugged. Hopefully this will be addressed with a firmware update in the future. All in all, this is a very good TV. In my opinion, it rivals the major manufacturer's quality at a fraction of the price.

Great TV except for Netflix HDR

This tv is absolutely amazing in everything that it does, sounds, video clarity, colors, etc. However the one thing that it falls extremely short on is the built in Netflix app. For some reason when you choose to watch something that shows as HDR only and not something that says 4k Ultra HD the video becomes extremely dark to the point it's unwatchable. I've played with every setting possible and cannot get to be bright enough. It's almost like the tv gets confused what it's streaming. Because with my PS4 it works perfect with hdr, and anything 4K ultra HD looks good too. Just anything identified as HDR Netflix like Jessica Jones goes extremely dark. Wish there was something around this.

I like this TV. The picture quality on it is good. Nice and clear, sharp images, colors are not over saturated. The sound on this TV is great! It gets pretty loud without it sounding overbearing, I still will use a sound bar or sound system just to have the extra base but it's not needed. This is a good buy.

When it comes to any piece of electronics, I have always stuck with a name brand I know and trust. With this TV, I saw the brand and I was skeptical, and I’ll admit my expectations were fairly low. However, I will say this, I am pleasantly surprised with this tv, it honestly is a nice tv, especially considering its price point, it really is a great value and I am surprised its price is not higher. I am someone who has computer monitors I paid almost twice as much as this tv costs, and I calibrate its coloring weekly due to photo editing. My eyes really look closely at coloring when it comes to screens. So getting this less popular branded tv I thought for sure I was going to have to do some tweaking to the screen and its coloring to get it even semi close to my standards, and I surprisingly barely did anything! All I wanted was for the screen to be a bit brighter as normal tv stations seemed a bit dark, without even having to adjust just the brightness, all I had to do was change the picture settings off of eco friendly mode, once it was a bit brighter, I was honestly happy with it. I had to spend way more time in the sound settings to improve that because its default settings was not that great. So far blacks on the screen (I watched a recent movie that takes place in space and had lots of blacks and greys in it) were much better than I was expecting, very consistent there. I did notice at the very bottom of the screen, when there was black on the screen, there was some white bleeding thru, I noticed that with a movie playing, however not when regular tv was on. The resolution of this tv is nicer than expected as well, from playing cable, dvr recordings, blu ray, and 4k youtube videos, the resolution was always consistent and the 120 motion rate was very obvious to see and enhanced the viewing experience tremendously. Another thing I was very impressed with was the user interface and menus, I’ve had some tv’s where the interface is just confusing and takes forever to navigate, this one was awesome, everything is nice and big and clearly labeled, I do not have to spend much time at all thinking about what I want to see or change and how I will get there, it’s just simple. Setting it up such as connecting to our wifi was a breeze, they really did simplify a lot of processes with this interface. Overall, I really am enjoying this tv that I was pleasantly surprised by, it really made me second guess my judgement on lesser known brands, as I can now say I’m fairly certain I prefer this tv over my 55 inch name brand tv. Its quality and value make it a must have.

Excellent So Far, Good Buy for the Money

I bought this to replace a recently deceased 50" plasma in my living room. I bought a 43 inch Sharp for Christmas and was very pleased with the picture and overall value for the money. Realizing Sharp is now made by Hisense, I thought I would give this set a shot, especially because it was on a special sale right before the Super Bowl. So far I have been very pleased. It has a bigger screen and many more built in features as compared to my old plasma. I do like the included Apps and also have a Roku box hooked up to it. I use DirectTv Satellite for the main feed and had to make sure to adjust the setting to 1080i on the box. I certainly don't see any loss in picture quality from plasma and enjoy the larger screen. Where this t.v. really shines is through use of the UHD sources available on Netflix, very impressive. It is my understanding this set may capable of HDR, but a setting needs to be changed in the settings menu. I don't have an HDR source, will be interesting to find out. Overall, the jury is still out, haven't had it long enough to judge in terms of quality. But, so far . . I think it is a very good buy for the money.

    Average Entry-Level 4k Smart TV

This TV is a very good entry-level 60" 4K tv. But it is that, an entry-level TV, as the price would entail. It has a lot of options for apps in the 'SmartTV' area, though not a lot in the way of picture customization. There is very little to modify when it comes to the quality of the image, there is no modifications for refresh, backlight, motion, or any of the other options you would find on higher end TVs. As for the image itself, it's very much average. There is darkening in the corners on a solid color. The black is not very black when there is no image going to the TV. The motion compensation for high-action scenes is almost headache enducing (which is to say, there isn't much). I played the Warcraft 4K Bluray through this and any high action scenes were a bit rough to watch. For average TV viewing it's a fine TV, but be aware of the price point you're buying this at. The TV shipped with the sharpness at almost an unwatchable level (10), I had to reduce it to 3 in order to make it so everything didn't have a strange shimmer to it. There is a huge number of apps available for the TV, and the critical appear to be 4k capable (I confirmed this with youtube, though I don't have a Netflix account to test that one). More apps can be added from the app catalog, and there is a ton. The one negative here is that there does not appear to be a native 'cast' capability to this tv and I could not find an app to enable it, so you would need something like a Chromecast to have this kind of functionality. Bottom line is that this is an entry level 4k Smart TV. There's a lot of options on the 'Smart' side of it if you're good with the picture being just average. I would recommend it if the person buying it knew they weren't buying one of the higher end brands and understood that fact.

This is my first Hisense tv and I am pleased. I believe the image quality is better than the lower and lower mid range Sony and Samsung units. The colors are fairly accurate out of the box and this is the first tv to have ACR work instantly. (that is the audio return channel that allows the tv sound to go back to the receiver so that all audio can be placed though the external speakers). This is great for watching Netflix on the smartset with good audio. I do prefer the Roku interface but Hisense is no worse than the sony or samsung except on an android tv casting works without an additional app.
