TV has a nice picture but on week two the TV started locking up, voices go in and out, remote would be delayed, some apps keep sending me back to the homepage so I unplugged the TV waited 15 minutes plugged it back in and it seems to be working again.

I’ve been using the new Hisense U8 for a little over a week now and I have some thoughts on it.
First, what is Mini-LED? Well, without getting into the weeds, you can think of Mini-LED as something super similar to OLED. There are some differences, however. OLED is famous for its inky black levels but is usually plagued by not being able to get as bright as some other technologies. Mini-LED on the other hand gets extremely bright and gets pretty close to OLED black levels. That makes Mini-LED a really great choice for TVs, especially ones that are in bright spaces.
The Display:
The Display on this TV is 4K, Mini-LED, and it looks about as good as it gets. I have a 77inch OLED from a different brand, and this Hisense packs similar firepower in its image and display quality. This is especially true if you aren’t a super display nerd (like me). 99% of people will never be able to tell the difference between this and some OLED tv’s. This is extraordinary because of the price point. The image processing is above average, the black levels are dang close to inky black, and this TV features QLED technology which makes those colors explode with vibrancy. This TV also supports a range of HDR technology (and oh boy does this HDR get bright), and Dolby Vision IQ. This means this TV is an excellent choice for those that are looking for a great movie experience. As far as live sports/live tv, this TV is more than good enough. Most live streams will never be able to take advantage of the tech on this tv.
Gaming:
I currently have a PC, Switch, and XSX connected to this TV where I tested different games. There’s some stuff with this TV that makes it easily one of the best for gaming on the market. The refresh rate goes all the way up to 165hz which is insanely high for a non-dedicated gaming monitor. Most competitors cap out at 120hz and as far as I know, so do gaming consoles. What 165hz is useful is for is PC gaming. I hooked up my PC, played some KCD2, and Expedition 33. The VRR worked well, and the 165hz limit was way higher than you will ever need on a TV, but I love the fact that you can do it. The input lag was super low and I never noticed it. At this price point this TV is a gaming slam dunk by Hisense.
Everything else:
I didn’t want to do a segment dedicated to sound because I would never recommend anyone to just use the TV speakers. The jump in quality from the TV speakers to even a basic soundbar is huge. However, the speakers on this TV are above average. The last thing I wanted to touch on was the stand and the remote. The stand is simple, clean, and sturdy. Nothing fancy, but it looks good enough at this price point. The remote is a bright spot with this TV. I love the brushed metal look and the simple number of buttons. It has some presets and a favorites button which every TV manufacturer should include. In general, the build quality of this TV punches way above its weight. That really is the story with this TV, it punches way above its weight.
