    Just What Mel Brookes Does

Silly, yes. Goofball, yes. Politically Incorrect with a bit of gratuitous sexiness, Yes. Great Cast, Yes. Must be Mel Brooks! Yes, Brooks' irreverent style is in full stride in this one, so be ready for a few belly laughs and a few reactive groans along the way too. In spite of its flaws, I was still hoping for a History of the World, Part 2, but it never came to pass. The Blu-ray transfer was good and that made my viewing of this Brooks classic even better than ever.

Doesn't get any funnier than Mel Brooks

Mel Brooks takes an irreverent look at a time in history and causes side-splitting humor until you're in tears. A little bit of innuedo, not out and out crass like most of today's "humor", that adds to the film but is not the focal point to the point of shock value. Gregory Hines steals the show in my opinion.

HOW provided Brooks with a great framework many gags and jokes. With a stellar comedic cast for its day, the story line moves thru a few time periods and related punch lines. Always good for true good humor and and genuine joy. Not as specifically scripted as Young Frankenstein or Blazing Saddles but really FUN to watch. Where is Part 2?

If you love Mel Brooks and his style of comedy, you'll love this movie. Features a great cast and a hilarious taking on the history of the world. Can you imagine Mel as Moses? I won't spoil the movie for you but check it out. Funny stuff!

It was funnier when I first saw the movie. Silly slapstick comedy with a lot of hidden innuendos thrown in.

I’ll start by saying this movie would not be allowed in theaters today. Too many people would find it offensive. It is a hilarious way to look at the History of the World. If your uptight and have a stick in your Butt DONT come near it but if you like to laugh and aren’t offended by everything get this and enjoy a truly good and funny movie.

This is one of those crazy movies you've seen a long time a go when you were young that made you laugh. Some scenes may seem silly but it's no different than today's movies. To be honest, I think older comedy is better. Great funny movie, enjoyed better in Blu-ray.

Absolutely HILARIOUS! Mel Brooks and company come through with what I would call a classic! Funny, witty, I crack up every time I watch it! Probably not the right movie for little kids, but great adult humor!

There are a lot of classics in Mel Brooks' body of work but this is, by far, my favorite. Every part has dozens of quotable lines and warrants repeated watching. You can't go wrong with this DVD.

Not for those who cannot laugh at a politically incorrect joke, this movie was made before people were as sensitive as a open wound. This is hilarious and a timely classic. Gotta watch just to see how far we have fallen from a funny society.

This is my favorite Mel Brooks movie. There's so much diversity in each story with a great culmination of all the characters at the end. Once you see it, you'll realize how often people quote it & you'll finally be in on the joke. It is definitely a must see.

I love Mel Brooks movies, and this was one of the few remaining ones that I hadn't seen yet, so of course I bought it. And I would say that this is definitely the worst of his films. Some of the early parts were funny, but overall a lot of it just didn't land for me and I actually wanted to turn it off at about the halfway mark. But I stuck it out figuring it had to get better, it didn't. This just isn't the laugh riot of Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, or Robin Hood Men in Tights, and it's not the more intelligently subtle comedy of High Anxiety, Young Frankenstein, or Silent Movie. I guess now I know why I never hear any references from this movie. Overall I'm glad I gave this a watch if only to know that I'll never want to watch it again, and I would probably recommend a lot of Mel Brooks movies, but just not this one.

Many movies make the top of my list and this is one of them. Mel Brooks comedies are quirky, funny, a little non-politically correct, but a joy to watch. A must have for my collection and maybe yours. Check it out!

Went to the Bible museum in Washington DC and they have a bible in movie video that showed the 15 commandments pair. Worth every penny just to watch this part. I found the movie in a bin in the checkout line. I am glad a took a few minutes to find it.

Best Buy offers a bin the size of an oil drum, where old movies are cheaply packaged sold for less than $5 each. I think these DVD's are bargains. The quality is pretty good, and if you're on a budget, you can still start a collection of classic old movies for under $30 --- enough to last thru a weekend.
