Customers highly value the air quality improvement this product provides, with many noting cleaner and fresher air. However, a significant number of users find the noise level, particularly at higher settings, to be a drawback. Some describe the sound as disruptive while others find it acceptable at lower speeds. The balance between air purification and noise output appears to be a key consideration for customers.

I bought this 16 days ago and it works very well. The main complaint a lot of people have about air purifiers is the noise. On high this one is noisy enough that you won’t be able to hear your television. On low it is still noisy but not so loud that you can’t hear TV. I have mine on top of my entertainment center right above my TV, and I do not need to turn the TV up any louder than usual to hear it when the purifier is on low. I have two Labrador retrievers that weigh 100lb and 105 lbs that spend 90% of their time in my room. Because of them there is a lot of dust in my room. Before I got this purifier I had a constant post nasal drip which caused chest congestion which caused me to always be hacking up mucus. This purifier has help to almost completely eliminate my chest congestion. Instead of hacking up mucus all day long it is only a few times a day now and that could be because my walls are covered in dust and need to be cleaned. The purifier comes with 2 aer1 total filters which are supposed to clean the air and eliminate odors but they do not eliminate odors. However you can buy replacement filters specifically for odor elimination or reducing allergens. The only reason I did not give this purifier 5 stars is because the filters are not permanent and I think the ionizer stopped working. When I first turned this on I could smell the ozone created by the ionizer. I only used the ionizer feature on the first day and a week later when I turned the ionizer feature back on I could not smell the ozone form ionizer anymore. I am going to return this purifier and either get one with permanent filters or one that is a true hepa filter because if I am going to have to replace filters I want the best filters available.

The main reason I needed an air purifier is because I live an in apartment complex that still allows smoking within the building. I'm not a smoker myself but the past tenants and the tenant below me smoke. Cigarette smoke permeates through the floors and walls leaving all of my clothes smelling gross! I tried other means of removing the smell without success (i.e., charcoal filters, damp rid...). This unit works great! I'm well pleased with its performance and the reasonable price! It is somewhat noisy, but I don't mind because it provides a "white noise" in my apartment to hide the noises coming from the other units in my building. I hope this review is helpful for you.

I have two of these. They move a reasonable amount of air, fairly quietly, without any squeaks, vibrations, etc. Filters are easy to find. Always hard to tell if these things are doing what they say (cleaning the air), as we don't have a lot of odors in our new house, just trying to decrease cat dander for company and toxins from new home materials. If I live long, it worked I guess.

The design is very nice and compact in comparison to my old purifier. It is also quite powerful.

As smokers, we've always been mindful of guests in our home and had many rooms to choose air purifiers for. This model is powerful and effective in the larger rooms and it's attractive design made it work even where it is out in the open and can't be hidden or disguised. It's high quality appearance and function was well priced and a real value after considering and comparing many options.

It is the best air purifier I have ever owned. While filtering the dust and dander, it refreshes the air. The room even smells better.

It is a decent air purifier. The only complaints are that it can be noisy and the fan blows out quiet a large amount of air that may cool down the heating level in the winter.

When I'm ready to go to sleep, I turn the fan down as it's quite powerful and blows a bit noisily. I auditorily "view" the noise as I would when at the ocean's edge- just there, I am more than satisfied as my throat/nose'/breathing are not irritated in any way. I used to sneeze constantly no matter how much cleaning is done ( it's an old building) . I frequently open the windows and even with the allergens ( pollen/hay fever/mold/grasses) this unit does a great job and I'm healthier.
It stands up in a small space; i can move it easily if I wish. All I had to do was "turn it on. and observe the lights."
I will monitor it per instructions for filter.
I highly recommend this product. And it's extremely light - I'm a "senior" so it's easily portable.

I originally bought one for my Living area because of a boxer that sheds a lot of hair and for dust. I figured that at least it would help somewhat, especially after seeing pet hair and dust on tables furniture, etc. A week after using this in a 15 x 20 foot room the dander and dust was reduced dramatically. Instead of literally having to dust daily, it was weekly. The second was for the bedroom. The setting at 3 is a little loud, so its used only at night for a "white noise" effect. Even with the overpriced filters, its a good buy that does it job nicely.

Brand response from Holmes Brand Team

We appreciate your feedback and are happy to let you know how the unit functions. Dirty air is drawn into the air purifier through the inlet grill. The washable pre-filter will then trap larger airborne particles. Air then passes through the carbon filter which helps reduce odors and captures even larger particles. After passing through the carbon filter, the air then passes through the HEPA filter made of tightly woven fibers. This unit also has an electronic ionizer which will help further assist in particle removal. The fan then redistributes the filtered air throughout the room. If you have any questions or concerns, we can be reached at (800) 546-5637. We are open Monday through Saturday from 8 AM to 8 PM, EST.

Bought two when they were "Deal of the Day", one for living room, one for the bedroom. Noticed a difference immediately. Slept better, did not wake up every morning with a runny nose. Great buy.

This product is advertised as quiet. It is quiet when it is off. Also I have been running it constantly for over a month now and have seen little change in the air quality....theres dust on the front of the air purifier. Pretty sure thats a bad sign.

i don't know what i was supposed to expect, this is my first time owning an air ionizer and it looks OK, its not to heavy and it has a convenient handle on top. it only has 3 buttons so its simple to use and it works right out of the box. i got it a month ago and its been on 80% of the time, i dont feel any different, the room smells neutral and it isnt warm or cold air that s blown out so you wont get sick overnight. it has 2 filters inside which you are supposed to change after 6 months but it is expensive filters. i personally see this as a waste of money because its a money pit in the long run, and its loud so its annoying at times. its one of those "return it on the 30th day" types of things.

I got this on a daily deal. Great price! Arrived in 2 days!
The Holmes unit is a glossy black plastic. The plastic is cheap with impressions from the plastic molding and support structures underneath showing on the outside. Its not very smooth as you run your finger along the casing .The plastic seams aren't very seamless or svelte but consistent with the plastic/cheap nature of the product. Overall, it does the job of containing it. Just dont drop it or tip it over on a hard surface. It doesn't inspire the confidence that if it fell over would not crack or chip.
The fan switch inspires some confidence. Should last.
The fan noise is a little noisier than I would like but expected for such a unit. I would have liked to see more levels of speed, particularly a level where it is near silent. Its low setting (1) is comparable to a modern refrigerator. Its quiet when its in the other room but you couldn't sleep next to it unless you're older and your hearing has degraded.
I generally wake up to some congestion and purchased this unit to see if it would help. I guessed that I was suffering to allergens in my room (my dog, dusty work/sleep environment). To mitigate the noise on the unit, at about 2 hours before bed I closed the door and turned it on high (3) and left it running. I turned it off before bed cause I couldn't stand the noise and woke up with no congestion.
For the price I paid, the negatives and the end results to my allergy suffering, this was a good buy.
