I love this camera, despite the poor video quality

Not nearly as bad as everyone says! Yes the video quality is poor. But let's look at the pros.
The product is adorable, definitely the most charming official Nintendo Switch 2 camera on the market.
The functionality. It doubles as a webcam that you can fix to the top of the TV for when playing docked- and the piranha plant detaches from the warp pipe, allowing you to plug it directly on top of the Switch 2 console, letting you use the camera in handheld mode.
And about the poor video quality- at the end of the day I don't think HD video quality is necessary for the Switch 2's camera features. I do wish the quality was better. If video quality is the most important thing to you- then don't get this. But if you like the other things I mentioned, it's a great Switch 2 camera. Also this thing goes on sale frequently, at $30-$40, it's not a bad deal.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting this camera to be all that great, I didn't need anything crazy and it doesn't do anything crazy. The quality, however, exceeded my expectations. The resolution is pretty low but it's perfect for the Switch 2 and for making videos with a face cam. The plant itself, disconnects from the block piece. You really don't need to unplug it from that because it doesn't take up much space at all. This thing is tiny. Also very cute design where the lens is in the plant's mouth and you close it to cover the lens.

I was torn between these two cameras, but I was told there wasn’t a significant difference between them. However, that’s not entirely accurate. The camera quality is actually 480p on this one compared to 1080p on the other. While I prefer higher video quality, if you don’t mind the lower resolution or if it’s for someone under the age of 12, this camera is still a great option. I still love it though :)

We got the piranha camera to be able to play camera games available in MarioParty Jamboree for Switch 2. The camera resolution isn't great, and it's not easy to situate everyone in front of the TV so everyoen is a good distance from one another. But it does add to the game. Also, if the Switch isn't located close to the TV, you need a longer USB cable than is provided. But it is fun.
Great Option, better price, not the best resolutio

The design is better than Nintendo but the 740p resolution makes it not as clear as the Nintendo one. You can close Petey Piranha mouth to not show the camara, can hang it on the TV or stand and brings the detail of the follower. You can also connect that to the Switch directly

Ok let’s get the bad out first. The quality is so much worse than expected. Imagine an ok quality image in your head… ok got it… good now bash that image in your mind with a hammer.
So why 4 stars? Camera is easy to set up and the fact the piranha can be detached from the base and just sit on top of the switch too is awesome.
Build quality is up to Hori standards.
Closing the mouth for privacy mode is awesome!
But mostly why on Earth did Nintendo no officially make this.
Could have added $10 to the price for a better camera is all that really needs to be said.

I think it’s great. People are so hung up on the resolution. The resolution legitimately doesn’t matter. Using this for the gaming features for games like Mario party for example it performs perfectly and with how small the screen in for the game chat mode, you can’t even tell what resolution it is. Now with this being said ya if you full screen it for a Skype like call you can see it’s low resolution. Honestly tho get a life. Don’t buy a game console let alone a Nintendo system to use it like it’s Skype. Your camera quality won’t change your game play experience and it certainly doesn’t matter if you are screen sharing while playing a game. The small 4 inch screen on your tv won’t look any better or worse.

This Hori Piranha Plant Camera is a fun and unique accessory for the Nintendo Switch. The design is awesome—perfect for Mario fans—and it looks great on a desk or TV stand. The camera quality is decent for video chat and in-game features, and setup was simple and plug-and-play. While it’s not meant to replace a high-end webcam, it does exactly what it’s supposed to do and adds a lot of personality to the setup. For the price, it’s a cool novelty item that works well and makes gaming more fun. I’m happy with the purchase.

Amazing aesthetic camera for Switch 2. The camera quality IS not the best at 480p. However, it works fine considering there is only a small image shown on screen for the most part so the difference is negligable. The image is on par with better quality camera when what is shown is small.

The camera is at 480 resolution. This doesn't reflect negatively on BestBuy, however it does for Nintendo as they could just do better with their technology. Especially paying over $60 for something that is lesser than desired quality. Buy for aesthetic, not quality.

The camera boasts a commendable build quality and an aesthetically pleasing design, making it suitable as a display piece. However, its primary drawback and the sole reason I cannot recommend it is its 480p resolution. In 2025, 480p is an unacceptable standard for a camera, especially when the official Nintendo alternative offers 1080p at a lower price point.
