If you're looking for a computer that will let you play Minecraft, use Photoshop, and generally be an all-purpose computer, look elsewhere. However, if you want a very basic, minimal-distraction computer, this could be the one for you. I haven't had this one very long; I actually traded in a Windows-turned-Ubuntu laptop for this last night. That being said, so far I love it! I bought this to just do simple tasks like email, word processing, etc. I knew coming into it that I wasn't going to be able to do any of my design work; that's what I have my desktop and iPad for. But for a quick email, text, or some basic photo editing, this is a great little machine. You just have to know what you're getting into with the Chrome OS; it's very very basic and relies on the Chrome browser. There's no installing apps like a typical computer. If you're willing to sacrifice that, and are okay with finding a site that does what you need it to, this is great!

Aesthetically pleasant, the lappie is functionally on form. I wish it was a pentium or quad-core in proportion to the size. But no complaints though.

I wanted an inexpensive 14-inch laptop to replace (for most but not all uses) my bulky and heavy 15.6" Dell Windows laptop purchased in 2013. Originally I had planned to purchase a Windows laptop with SSD and no optical drive, but after some research I quickly learned that for $200 you can do much better with a Chromebook than a Windows system. (I also have another 15.6" Windows laptop for work, 11" Acer Chromebook, 10" Samsung Tab, Fire 8 HD, and of course the cell phone - and each of these devices has its niche.) Overall I am very pleased with this unit. Performance is good for everyday light use such as web browsing, and the size is perfect for that use; I haven't used it for much else. Battery life seems acceptable, though it is a little concerning that currently the meter says 83% left with 6:17 remaining, whereas a little while ago it said 87% with 7:44 remaining and I have not changed the intensity of my activity on it between those readings. That is quite the exponential drop-off. But when battery life is critical (and when physical space is at a premium) I can use the smaller Chromebook or a different device. The screen looks nice for what it is. I have no problem with the resolution: I was coming from a larger-screen laptop with the same resolution, so this was actually an upgrade. The major caveat I will insert here is that the screen is NOT GLOSSY (BrightView) like the description says. Upon un-boxing this was a major disappointment and almost a dealbreaker for me. It seems difficult to find an inexpensive unit with a glossy screen these days. But most people seem to want the antiglare/matte finish now, and since I like the computer so much overall I decided to put up with it. A couple other caveats: The case is kind of flimsy, so I am not sure how this will hold up physically over time; and there is only an microSD rather than full-size SD card reader, which originally was not my preference, but I do own several microSDs and maybe it was time to phase out the full-size anyway. And it IS nice to have the card fit all the way into the unit, unlike the full-size SD that slides only halfway into my other Chromebook. SO, why did I rate this five-stars despite so many caveats? I don't know. I tend to be a negative writer, so take me with a grain of salt. But really, this is just a very pleasing device to use, I became comfortable with it immediately, and I think we will have some happy times together. So in the final analysis I have no real complaints. Buy it.

    My Third Chromebook

This is my third Chromebook. I love it. My first Chromebook was a small silver 11 inch, I kept it in a bag that I took back and forth to work and the screen cracked. My second Chromebook is just like this one. I've had that one since the beginning of 2015. In August of 2015 I took it to Geek Squad to have them replace the battery at no charge, it was still under warranty. I don't pay for protection plans. I bought the third Chromebook because the second one wouldn't stay on without the power cord being plugged in. After about 2 years it was time to get another one. I prefer Chromebook over other computers because of the price and the portabilitywhat is that. This thing is really light, slim, and very portable. I am using the app Dictanote right now to pen this review. It is a speech recognition app so all you do is speak and it translates. I also use Dictanote to write my papers. Apps can be downloaded easily from the Google Play Store on this device. It doesn't get bugs, it doesn't get viruses. I am a graduate student and the Chromebook works for all of my needs.

This is a great, basic computer for the price. Great size and instruction and I love the simplicity of Google Chrome. My only negative is that I purchased this specifically for my dad as he only uses his laptop for email, the internet and PokerStars. :) In buying this for him, I found that you can't download the PokerStars app to play on the Chromebook, only on Windows machines. I write this here in case there are other apps/downloads that people might use that won't be compatible with Google Chrome. Otherwise, a great product!

I purchased the Chromebook for my 13 year old son. It is a slightly larger version of the laptop he uses at school but can not take home. I have also used it and have some sense of it's functionality. It is lightweight and not a drag in a case slung over your shoulder. The battery life is very good and the processing speed is first rate. It is a pretty intuitive machine and I like that. It's a little spartan in terms of pre-loaded software and my son has complained about some glitchy-ness in downloading games. Otherwise, I'd say it was a very good value purchase and I'm actually pondering picking one up for myself.

I always had PC's and was hesitant about Chromebook, not anymore. I gave this one to my brother as a gift. It's lite, fast and inexpensive. It does everything I need from a computer. I will be getting one for myself next.

So glad I bought this laptop!! Almost bought an Acer but this one had a MicroSD slot. So for $50 more than I was going to pay for the Acer, I have expandable memory. For internet usage and online apps this thing is pretty quick and reliable. This computer is good looking with a nice screen size. The track pad is responsive and user friendly. All of the Google features and shortcuts are intuitive and easily accessable. This computer is well thought out and fun to use. The only downside I can think of is that the only way to print is through cloudprint. I have not found a way to print via WiFi. Other than that this computer is solid and useful. If you are looking for a basic setup for youtubing, email, documents, web browsing, this is your laptop. I don't regret buying it for a second.

Chromebook didn't work for my needs

I did research, but not enough bc the Chromebook didnt work for my needs. It's a great laptop, but my wife needed a particular program to use her vinyl printer and it doesn't have a google OS version. Many programs do, but this one doesn't. Since I bought the Chromebook as a gift for her with the main purpose being to use with her vinyl printer, I had to return it and buy one with a Windows OS. Just like everyone said in the reviews and descriptions, it's great for surfing online, but be aware that not all apps and programs have a Google version.

I bought this as a starter lap top for my 11 year old daughter to use for school work because I didn't want her using mine all the time. This laptop was a great purchase. It is fast enough for her to browse for research, complete her assignments, and watch videos without any issues. She was able to navigate it easily and the price was perfect. This is great for basic tasks.

I spilled water on my Macbook one night (because I'm an idiot) and I needed something to temporarily replace it with pretty quickly. I only use it for tasks such as taking notes or creating presentations - it's a bit slow for anything else, but for the purposes I use it for, it's perfect. It's also SUPER lightweight and way easier to lug around.

The speed and efficiency is great especially when you need to quickly access documents and websites. This is great for educational purposes, especially when relying heavily on Google apps. The downside is that the screen resolution is not up to current HD standards and the body is plastic. Overall, it does everything I wanted it to do.
