I was looking for an entry-level laptop for my daughter that would last her one or two years. I fell in love with this one despite not being so much of an entry level. It feels fast and responsive and the touch pad works great.

Bought this for my 10 yr. old daugther because her old Macbook Pro has died. Instead of trying to fix it i found this HP as the deal of the day for $475 so i grab it. This is a steal for a Laptop with Ryzen 5 - 12gb memory and 256gb ssd. The Ryzen 5 is fast enough for doing her homework and google classroom and for online games. I've updated the window 10 so far no problems. The screen is not as bright as ips led because it is touch screen. The keyboard is fine my daughter has no problems typing. Track pad is ok but i connected a wireless mouse and keyboard which is easier to use if you are used with a full size keyboard. Overall it is a great product.

Love the touchscreen capability on this one. It works fast enough for me as I go back to school. It has enough memory and feel it is a great upgrade from my old Toshiba.

On a full charge, the battery only lasts 2-3hours, so you need to keep your charger close by if you are working in the middle of working on an assignment. The fan is also very loud and it heats up quickly. And I've discovered that if you use the touchscreen, the cursor often disappears and you have to go into the system application manager to manually shut down the program. I only use the laptop for online courses.

I assumed with the 12GB memory, SSD, and a decent processor that it'd be a great laptop that would last me several years. I can see now that I should have kept saving my pennies and gone higher up on the scale. My 4 year old desktop (8GB mem, HDD, i5 gen 4) outperforms this in a lot of ways. Overall, it's fine. I'll keep it, but I was really hoping it would be a lot more powerful. Maybe I'll throw Linux on it and see if that helps some of the issues I'm having. I haven't gone through and removed all the default installs (McAfee, HP tools, etc.) that cause things to slow down, so maybe I just need to do that. Specifically, I was trying to record some videos (OBSproject and OpenShot) and it was just misbehaving and not performing very well. Getting it to grab the correct microphone or play the right speaker was irksome. I had a headset plugged in, still used the onboard if I didn't plug in at the right time. Weird. I was also having some WiFi issues the other day when I really needed it to work (hosting a large Zoom meeting) and it was then that I discovered there was no ethernet port on this thing. That's my fault, I should have seen it wasn't there in the specs, but I just made an assumption. I ended up using my desktop to do that meeting because the wifi in the laptop was only connecting at half to a third of the speed my desktop had and it kept dropping out. Super frustrating and I almost sent it back at that point. In the end, the WiFi issues have been my biggest frustration. I need to depend on that for Zoom meetings (especially right now in the COVID days) and I just can't. Maybe I'll pick up a USB ethernet adapter and things will be fine. I'd consider troubleshooting my wifi router, but this is the only device that has had any problems, and we've used several other devices. It's performing fine for everything else, I guess. I'm probably more frustrated with the Windows 10 Home differences from Windows 10 Pro than I am about system performance (WiFi is still very frustrating). Not sure why MS thinks I want a different experience at home and office, it's slight, but very noticeable to me (maybe others are fine with it).

My older laptop finally got slow enough I had to upgrade but only needed limited specs. I use my laptops for school and office type work verses high gaming or video watching. This, once S-mode was removed, has been exactly what I need. There's speed when opening applications again and ease of use with many things being "the way they should be" even though I changed from Intel to AMD; honestly I was scared that would be a horrible decision and it has turned out to be just fine! Even my teenage boy is jealous! If doing standard work - office, basic school activities or just word processing this is a perfect computer! If doing high level stuff - photo editing, gaming, etc., I might look into better storage and space.

Decent for the price but not without some concerns. The 12 gb RAM was abot what I was looking for, the 256GB SSD is fast but I would prefer more storage, but I have a few external drives laying around anyway. With all HP's I pretty much figure that I will have to replace the battery at some point. With this one it appears the battery is built into the housing so I will probably have to do some disassembly if I need to replace it. I can't tell you if that will be a simple fix or not because I'm not taking it apart until I actually must...

I bought this laptop brand new in 2020 and I'm very pleased with it. I've used it for both work and graduate school so far and I'm very impressed with the performance. The camera and internal microphone work great for meetings. The keyboard is very comfortable and quiet enough to where I don't notice the volume while typing long papers. I use an external cooling tray all the time with mine so that I don't have to run the internal fan often. Bought the cooling tray separate on Amazon. LOVE LOVE LOVE the touchscreen. Comes in handy when researching papers and paying bills!
