One of the best computers I've ever owned

I've owned a lot of laptops over the years, mostly from HP, and went a few years ago from a 17" screen to a tablet 2-in-1. I never thought I'd go back to a larger screen, but here I am and I'm glad I did. This computer is fast, the screen is clear and bright compared to one other I tried and returned, and typing on it is comfortable. It has a strong, solid build from the keyboard to the screen and body. The fingerprint reader is a huge security bonus and has worked every time on the first try. I am waiting to see what battery life is like long term, but so far I've been using on and off since purchasing it (and charging it to 100% when I unboxed it) and haven't needed to recharge it yet. The weight is noticeable but not terrible. Overall I am pleased with this computer and for what you get it is an excellent value.

I am very satisfied with my HP; I work from home and it has provided nothing but excellence in handling my work load. The 17.3 " touch screen is more than enough when having to toggle through several programs at the same time. (((HIGHLY RECOMMENDED))) Other companies can not come close to building one of similar nature for the price.

So far, so good. I've owned this HP - ENVY for several months now and have had zero problems with it. It's fairly fast, works efficiently, and quietly. I love the large screen and lighted keyboard. I am surprised at the "plastic" body and it seems to heat up when I have it in my lap. Otherwise, it's a very good machine.

Love this laptop. I was specifically looking for a smaller 17 in screen and fingerprint reader. This unit is very fast - I use it for work with mostly word processor and spreadsheets and it opens the files very quickly and loads content almost instantaneously. It's "small" and fairly lightweight for a 17 in laptop. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Fast, responsive, excellent screen resolution/pixelation and 17.3" lets me tile as I need to. I've been an HP fan for many years (computers, printers, etc.), wanted a "laptop laptop", checked into other brands and the Envy has everything I wanted and more! I'm not a touchscreen guy and don't have to use this option.

Really like the laptop works great. I only use it for searching web, reading, zoom/google meetings, etc. It is really big, not sure I would select this size again. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy the large screen but It gets heavy and awkward carrying it around. No other complaints!!

Recently bought this after having an Apple MacBook for 11 years. Love Apple products but didn’t want to spend $2,500 on a new computer. Husband is in IT and claims this is the same quality as my MacBook with a cheaper price tag. We will see. Laptop has a big screen which is nice. Fast computer. Can’t complain so far.

Needed to update our home computer for more speed and better resolution for those Zoom calls. This HP Envy was the right choice with a wide screen, high resolution, upgraded camera and full keyboard. Setup was easy and had the computer in line in minutes. This is a great device for all home computing needs.

Seems to check off all the boxes, only wish is that the keyboard was a darker color as hard to see at times. Love the size, nice speed, and starts up very fast. So far I am loving it.

I love the size of the screen. It makes it easier to have a couple of applications open at one time and toggle back and forth. Quality of picture is great and good camera. Would highly recommend. So far have not experienced any slowness when switching applications, in fact it’s very quick.

After 1&1/2 yrs ownership I am happy overall with this laptop. I like that it’s touch screen although I don’t use it often. The backlit keyboard was a must for me, this has bright-brighter or off settings. I chose this size because I like the numeric keyboard. The main reason I purchased was to trade the stock market. It does a fine job running ThinkorSwim stock trading software. No lags. I also use it daily for personal file keeping, checking emails and surging web. The screen is nice size and has good clarity. Sound is good. It does come with a good deal of bloat ware as do most. I deleted/disabled most if it. Just recently I’ve experienced the occasional freeze if I have many windows open at once. I keep it plugged in all the time so I can’t speak a lot about the battery and charge. I keep the microphone disabled, never used it. I have no major complaints. It is prepared to update to Win 11 as soon as I decide to do it.

Extremely fast out of the box. This is an awesome laptop. Can be upgrade to 32 gig of ram if needed but is already very fast. The glass touch screen is very nice and finger print lock option keeps others out. I would definitely recommend this machine. Great video and camera too.

I like the screen size of the HP Envy -- not too small and not too big. It's very fast as well and has a very comfortable keyboard. There are many built-in programs that give the user a variety of choices. I like trying new options, and this computer makes that possible.

Purchased an Envy 17" two years ago, which still runs like a dream. That one has a 1tb hard drive and does everything we need it to do. With two high school students and a wife all working at home, a new laptop became necessary. Another Envy was a logical choice. This machine is considerably lighter than the older one. It still has a 17" screen, which I love, but it's slightly narrower and lower-profile. It feels less cumbersome to carry. Performance-wise, I chose the 500gb SSD. With increased reliance on the cloud for storage, it seemed to me that a smaller local capacity would suffice, and it has. Still, for younger users (I am over 50), a drive with 1tb storage might be more useful. Using the webcam is simple and intuitive, whatever the app (we're using Skype, Zoom, and WEBEX). The touchscreen isn't overly sensitive, which I like. Same goes for the touchpad, although I still prefer using a mouse. Overall, this machine does everything I need it to do! Pros: lightweight, excellent value, superior performance. Cons: smaller capacity hard drive might dissuade other users.

I needed to replace my old, slow, and frustratingly crash prone PC. The HP ENVY 17.3 touch-screen laptop is the answer to my prayers, It's fast, has a nice big bright screen and suprisingly great sound from the Bang&Olufsen speakers.

I was unsure of where to start when buying a laptop seeing as my last one, a Sony Vaio, I bought in 2012 (it finally decided it was tired of working properly) and even then I think I was I’ll informed of what was good. I went in store after asking some knowledgeable friends and doing some research myself. I told the associate exactly what I was looking for: 17.3 in screen, longevity, use for minor gaming, editing word docs, backlit keyboard, and watching videos. She pointed me to this laptop along with some Asus. I preferred the look, price, and the fact this one has a touch screen. I didn’t purchase it hat day because it was more than I had planned to spend. After deciding what I wanted I tried to purchase the Envy in late July in store, but my bank was being a pain about letting my forms of payment go through (quite typical, buying anything from Best Buy usually goes this way for me). Because it was a Sunday I wasn’t able to contact them but thankfully they placed the laptop on hold for me to come get the next day. The next morning at work I was considering that maybe I needed to look around a little more and consider different options and got on the website. First thing I saw was that the price of the laptop dropped $200 so I knew it was fate that all this annoyance happened. I got my laptop and took it home, turned it on....and the screen was messed up. No problem, accidents happen and it wasn’t a manufacturing error but a handling error. I live 10 minutes away from my local Best Buy so I headed back out to replace it. That was done very easily and they let me check the screen on my new one before heading home. Everything was fine with it. I had used it lightly the first three days and then was too busy for the next week. When I turned it on again I noticed yellowing at the right bottom corner and became concerned I had damaged it when closing it but knew it was impossible because there is no need to put my hand there: the position is awkward. I then noticed more yellowing at the top of the screen. Then I had the laptop sitting idle for a bit and it shut down on me. I couldn’t get it to come back on for a few minutes. I couldn’t find anything wrong with it but it did say it shut down improperly, just not why. I was leery if such a new laptop experiencing such a problem. I spent the next two days deciding whether I needed to return it or not before the 15 day return window closed, and ultimately I did. I bought this laptop to use for watching videos as well as some digital painting. Anything in the screen like that is a distraction. I know because my old laptop had splotches all over it and I hated it to the point it made me want a new one even though everything was running fine on it. I took it to the store and they happily exchanged it. Even in the bright lighting of the store they could see the spot which I was told was a bleed, and a rather large one. I did a little research on these when I got home and apparently they are common but tend to develop over time. They are pretty much invisible until your screen has a dark background in a low lit room. My bedroom is a cave (the reason I need the backlit keyboard) and my screensaver was dark along the edges. I’m sure my new one has a bit of a minor one that for now I’ll ignore. One downside to this laptop is that it’s quite heavy. I wouldn’t want this if I was needing to lug it around a campus. My previous one I tried doing that and it killed my shoulder. This one weighs more. I took the advice of one of the people in the Q&A for this product and purchased an external DVD/CD reader. They are very cheap so trying to get one that’s built into a laptop isn’t worth limiting your options. I’ll write another review if anything develops.
