This is basically a great piece of equipment, with a tenth generation cpu, a generous 16GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD. It comes with a wireless keyboard, and mouse, both of which get high marks for comfort and ease of use. It's very fast to boot, and total time from power on to ready to work is measured in seconds. The one component that doesn't impress me is the optical drive. It's vertically mounted, which can create problems of its own, but worse yet, the one time I had to use it to reinstall software for my desktop scanner, it was so noisy I thought it might not be working. There's one major problem, though, that I'm still working to solve. Shortly after I got most of my critical applications installed and running, the computer developed an annoying tendency to just stop without warning. The screen, and apparently everything else, just freezes. It will accept no input, will not respond to ctrl-alt-del, ctrl-C, ctrl-shft-esc or any other input from the mouse or keyboard. The only solution is a hard turnoff and reboot. The good news, such as it is, is that no data seems to get lost. This has been happening anywhere from once to a dozen times a day. The problem seems to have gotten better, as I updated Windows several times, and went after what looked like competing antivirus programs. I have most recently removed the included 30 day trial of a product I've never liked, and replaced it with a download of Webroot included in the purchase by Best Buy. Perhaps that will cure the problem. If not, at least I have confidence that Best Buy will stand by me if I actually have to return it or have the Geek Squad deal with it. Just the same, for this kind of money, there should not be this kind of problem.

Do you feel the need for speed?

Start up on this system is so much faster than my i5 HDD. You'll get very impatient with your older systems if you try this one a few times. It has plenty of USB's and video outs. It really needs an extra SDD drive because the system config I got only has a 512 gig SSD. I'm thinking a 2 TB SSD would be just perfect for music recording which is why I bought this one system for. I am not disappointed in this system in any way except for the small SSD, but I'll just keep the O.S. on that and get a data drive. Keep an eye out because this one system appears on the daily deals. 16 gig of memory is more than enough with the way this i7 manages things. I'm not sure if the power supply can take a mechanical hard drive, but why would you do that when SSD's are so cheap now?

Love this PC. It’s fast and responsive. No issues with freezing as mentioned by other reviewers. Easy setup and windows 10 is great (which I was worried about). The only downside for me was only one hdmi port. It advertises dual monitors which I’m using and I expected two hdmi ports. I’m able to use the vgi but would have preferred hdmi for my second monitor.

It has a CD/DVD+RW drive which many of desktops does not these days. Everything works smoothly and fast. I bought it as open-box in excellent condition. For those who complains about having to hold Fn key use function keys (F1 to F12), you can change the setting in the BIOS. If 512GB SSD is not enough for you, you can add a SATA 2.5inch SSD such as Samsung 860 EVO. You can mount it with a SSD mounting bracket.

I gave this a 4-star rating because this is the second unit I purchased after the failure of the first unit. The first unit froze constantly. I saw that others had the same problem. Fortunately this unit is working perfectly so far. It is very fast, quiet, and runs cool.

Actually I was very pleased this time around. My last computer buying experience was a nightmare. It was a nice setup and felt like my security was of upmost importance the whole way. The bluetooth mouse and keyboard work well ,but you have to be in range of the tower to a distance of 2 or 3 feet. It doesn't work for all situations, but should fit most. Pleased so far; I've been able to easily run everything smoothly while working on the computer, which includes streaming music or video while working with several open websites and occasionally dabbling with music production software, which it has kept up with fantastically. It zips memory around pretty quickly; I thought I was going to be here all day waiting for some videos and pictures to go across, but is transferred in a few seconds. Guess I'm older than I thought. Well like I said its been a good decade since my last computer.

This is my 3rd HP-Envy over the past 12 years. I love the power & the ability to download from a CD when necessary. With this newest generation, a good quality SSD enhances the start up within a second (maybe 2). My only knock on the unit is the power button. It's so integrated into the unit that it's a bit harder to turn on the computer than previous Envy generations.

great computer! runs fast, boots up in 2-3 seconds. I use it for music production and so far have not had any issues. I had to tweak a few settings in my DAW but that's it. It does make a slight noise when I have the DAW open (not through the speakers or headphones, the actual computer itself) but it hasn't caused any issues and really is barely noticeable.

I've owned HP desktops and laptops for decades and this model is without a doubt a great computer that has worked very well for me. I have only one issue and that is one of the USB-C female sockets is rather loose in terms of gripping the inserted USB-C male plug. In all honestly, I think it was merely a flaw in that socket and even that socket still works. All the other plugs are spot-on great! I'm sure this was a one-off situation with my particular machine and if you get this yours should be fine. The computer runs flawlessly. Doesn't overheat or have any other issues. This is a great buy.
