Great for the price

Wonderful for the price. There are a few things that aren't super user friendly when you take it out of the box (issues with speakers, microphone) but once you troubleshoot and apply the fixes it's a great little computer. I love it for school. I can multitask with my textbook, calculator and notepad all open at once. I did purchase a Windows ink captive pen to use with it that I'm having issues with. In not sure if it's a problem on Microsoft's end or nuvision but I can't wait to get it working and see what it can really do. I loved the computer so much I bought it and my sister got the sme one the very next day. Can't beat the technology for the price.

Blazing Fast Laptop!

This laptop can be extremely fast if you know what you are doing. I was really excited to see an AMD APU that finally supports DDR4 , so I picked this up once I saw it in store. I pulled the 1TB out and swapped in a much faster Intel SSD, removed all the bloatware and setup Windows 10 correctly. The laptop loads to the desktop in 6.5 seconds from the time I push the power button. It also plays games pretty well, I was playing the new Unreal Tournament with everything set to high @ 1080P and was getting 36-38 FPS with no hick-ups. It didn't heat up much either and only got mildly warm like the average laptop. The screen itself is really nice, it does support AMD Freesync as well. The only thing I dislike about it is that I cannot upgrade the RAM to 32GB or even 16GB, it's not the biggest deal in the world though. Also, I was unable to redeem the free game that is included with the laptop. I tried several times and AMD's program told me that it didn't meet the programs qualifications.

It's only ''good'' when it wants to be.

Overall, it's an okay laptop but there are times when it just does not want to work. Just now, I had to restart it because it said all my Bluetooth drivers were no longer working. After the restart, yeah they started working again. The screen freezes occasionally when switching from tablet to laptop mode. The notification page gets in the way when trying to move the task bar and it super annoying and you have delete an app just to move it. I have to restart it at least 2 times a day and I just bought it last week! The battery life is terrible, it last on average 1-2 hours doing basic laptop stuff in tablet mode. The fan, every now and then makes a loud sputtering sound. The only -one- good thing about this laptop are the games you can play. At low setting, you can run games like Saints Row 3 with decent FPS - there still some noticeable lag here and there.
Would I recommend this laptop? For $680? No, I would not. For $450 maybe.

I have had this laptop for a month now and so far I have loved it. It servers my requirements just the way I wanted. Amazing for the price it was offered $649. The 360 degree rotation is a cool feature that shifts from laptop to tab mode without issues. I had couple of issues in the first few days, but after the first s/w update the machine is working like charm with out any flaw. The machine is pretty fast for all daily needs or s/w non intensive work.
Overall features - full capacity barely reached so far for my use. So I believe this laptop will stay with me for a long time to come.
Pros:
Processor: AMD - FX 9800P 7th Gen APU - more than sufficient to handle all daily need applications from browsing, office etc ...
I don't think one would expect running oracle or some ting like that in this machine, If you do then this is not the segment. Daily needs - awesome configuration.
Display: Full HD 1920x1080 resolution, crisp and clear awesome
Weight: 4.7 pounds - Not too bad, I would be happier with lower weight.
Style: Sleek
Touch: Very responsive
Tabmode: pretty big display.
Battery: Lasts for a few hrs >2-3hrs, did not do a full exclusive drag test. Decent I would say.
Disk: 1TB - 7200rpm SATA, that's huge and faster than regular 5400 rpm - bang on.
GPU: Integrated APU R7 - awesome GPU
HDMI & USB3: Very good, I was able to connect my projector and watch a Full HD video flawlessly without frame drops.
Bluetooth: Connects to the devices fast enough
Keyboard Backlit - helps in night. But I don't need it, knowing the keys where they are :)
360 degree hinge: smooth and thoughtful.
Cons: very minor
Charger: I think it would have been good if the battery would get charged faster. May be the charger adapter is not big enough.
Display size: personally for me it would have worked best if the display size was 14" or 13.3" (much better), 15.5" is a bit too big.
HP should consider offering a model with above sizes. It would help reducing the weight too.
Ram: 8GB: Not that it is bad. For the current day, it is more than sufficient, A 16TB would be more satisfying considering future applications could demand it. No issues otherwise. Does not hinder performance for now.
Ethernet: I don't consider this a negative, now a days we (I) don't use it quite often unless you need "no drop" connections for your work, else it wireless is more than sufficient to fulfill your needs.
Don't knows:
Gaming: I dont use it for games so will not comment

Everything seemed to be perfect for my needs. The price, functionality, aesthetics, etc. was good. But my god was that fan loud. I disabled the antivirus for a bit to free up some cpu, but even then and with nothing open, that thing was buzzin away. I then opened a couple youtube tabs and I could've sworn this thing was about to blast off into space.

Purchased this laptop after much deliberation, research, and actually checking out the product. I've always been a Toshiba fan but this HP has won me over. I was a little leary of purchasing a product with an AMD processor as i've always gone with intel in the past and the AMD's my wife has had were sluggish and didn't perform well but I have to say... this laptop kicks butt!! It's twice as fast as the i3 i'm replacing and everything about it is wonderful. The HD screen is crisp and clean. The build quality with the steel frame is excellent and the keyboard touch is smooth and responsive. Love the backlit feature. I must say 15.6 is probably a little large for a 2 in 1 but everything else rates 5 stars. No more Toshiba for me!! Take the dive!!

I purchased mine for school and casual games it it does both very well. Now the laptop is not a gaming laptop so no do not expect to play games like fallout 4 however i can run COD black ops two with a little optimization around 40 fps constant which is very very playable.

It's a nice laptop at the price. I was not a fan of AMD, but the Best Buy rep talked me into it. I can honestly say I am very happy with my purchase. You can't beat it for the price!

Went to purchase the HP Spectre 13" but it was $1499.00 and I saw this HP Envy with a 15.6" screen and twice the HD space for half the price. The sales rep made a big deal about the solid state drive of the Spectre. While I know it's better and faster; the speed, except at bootup perhaps, probably won't be noticeable to me. I actually had the Spectre in my hands but I put it back and had to wait two days for this Envy because they didn't have any in stock. It was worth it I think.

Great Notebook, but bad power cord . . .

I went to Best Buy again the sales told me HP computers are good with the lease problems and returns. The HP Envy has good audio sound. The computer works fast and fine. The only thing was after 8 days my power cord adapter was getting hot and little buzzing sound. I had to take it back to the store. The guy at the store gave me a replacement adapter from a new HP Envy box. When I went home, It turned out the cord I got was not a cord from America. It had a different outlet. I went back to the store. The sales tried to find out what happened and why they would have a chinese/korean/italy HP in their store. The geek squad said the top part of the charger should work and connect to the other half of my charger. So they gave me that ans switched it. It turned out to charge hot again. It was hot and uncomfortable holding in my hand. I ended up calling HP. HP was able to remotely share my computer, check it, and update my bios. They are sending me a new replacement power cord adapter.

We were impressed with how flexible this computer is. Never thought it would be used in the tablet form, but find myself using it that way a lot. Never thought I would like a touch screen, but I do.

Bought this a couple months after it first came out. Battery life began to suffer dramatically after only a year (my toshiba lasted me years). In the spring of this year, my battery was suddenly completely shot. Wouldn't turn or stay on unless it was plugged in. Since it's an internal battery, I called to see about repair pricing & time. $200 and would be gone for 6 weeks. This was a month before finals so this was unacceptable. Dealt with keeping it plugged in. Suddenly it was working just fine again over the summer. First day of fall semester yesterday *tried* turning it on. Couldn't even get it to turn on for 10 minutes with it plugged in! Had to get the cord in the right spot where it was plugged into the computer in order for it to turn on. It was great while it lasted. Now I'm sitting here on the second day of the semester with yet again a broken computer trying to figure out the means to fix it.

My PC had bad build quality, the upper left corner of the screen is spreading apart from the back of the laptop and is only noticeable when the screen is black because that part appears white when the rest of the screen is black. Besides that the laptop has worked great. Works well for playing steam games. It was a littletoo expensive in my opinion.

Well, I have owned this laptop for about a month now and I have already had consistent issues with it. I thought that I would be fine with a simple laptop since I don't do any gaming and it is strictly for office work... I was wrong. My wife and I both got one, and both of us have already had issues with having to hard restart the laptops because they freeze and become completely unresponsive. Mine can barely handle having a couple web pages open before the processor bogs down and you get delayed response when moving the mouse or trying to click anything. Frankly, I am not impressed. I would expect these problems on a $300 computer from WalMart, you would think that $600 would buy a laptop that could handle running Word and an Internet browser.

windows issue really, but reconsider no cd burner...
I have envy x360, with no burner. fails to create a recovery disk using the SD card reader. does not recognize F: as a drive.
I may return this, if I can't find a work around...
