Getting a Ryzen 2700, RX 580, NVMe SSD, 16GB RAM @ 2666 MHz, small form factor, and 2 free full priced (pre-order) games seems like a must buy. However, there's some caveats: - Cooling is pretty bad as of now (getting it a few hours ago). If you ramp up the GPU to 100% utilization (not hard to do, performs alright) then it easily passes 80 C. CPU cooling is alright but it easily passes 70 under any kind of load and that's without OC and 100% utilization. Definitely need to find a better CPU cooler and maybe mess with the cooling setup. - My specific model has only a 400W PSU, but it's apparently Platinum rated - Annoying HP bloatware ("updates" section has required updates being more HP bloatware and not legit updates like graphics, chipset, audio/WiFi, etc) - No leading/eye-catching features. Just decent across the board: smaller form factor, RGB (?) front lights, lightweight, and nice looking design. Pros: - Definitely performance. Having a 2700 CPU lets you do pretty much whatever, play whatever game, have a bunch of tabs open in the background, etc. Great CPU. The 580 performs alright, but will probably be an upgrade I'll consider pretty quickly. FreeSync is quite nice though, as I have a capable monitor. - Setup was pretty quick with the NVMe SSD. Capacity is unfortunately low but I have my own 2.5" I'm adding soon. - WiFi and Bluetooth is a nice extra. Very portable solution and the WiFi connection and speed is pretty good from my few hours of use. - Appears to be upgrade-able. Need to look more into the case as to what form factor it is specifically and how much space there is for a beefier cooler and GPU, but it looks alright from when I popped open the side panel in the beginning. Overall, I still think it's a pretty good deal and don't regret buying. Just have some problems that might be a turnoff for buyers.

Windows on AMD Ryzen has been a pretty successful experiment that might just stick. This model retails for just a little over $1,000, which I think is an exceptionally good deal. Let me explain why I personally really love this computer. Spoilers: the competitive price has a big role to play in all this. In short, this is a well-rounded gaming PC able to run all AAA titles. I don't mean that it's going to do a fantastic job on everything, but if your goal is to play DOTA 2 or League of Legends, this will more than ably cover your graphics needs. In fact, moving up to more demanding titles, like Tomb Raider and Fortnite, I was easily able to play these at 50-60FPS on Epic/high graphics settings across the board for both titles. Seriously, I was pleasantly surprised by this. We output to a 1080p monitor, so maybe your mileage may vary if you're attempting to run things at 4K resolution. But for a midrange gaming desktop this has been excellent. This is akin to running an NVidia GeForce 1060, and it definitely feels that way. When you look up prices for THAT card in comparable computers, this feels like a very reasonable deal. The one area where I was somewhat surprised - not in a good way - is in image editing. For all its prowess at running games at very playable frame rates, I noticed some slowdown, stuttering and processing time - more so than on my Surface Pro - when trying to edit photos on Affinity Photo, of all things. Just the very act of changing filters and color management showed some lag. Not at all a dealbreaker, and it could be a function more of software-hardware compatibility rather than the capabilities of the GPU itself, but it might be worth thinking about if you for some strange reason aren't buying this to be a gaming rig. Which should really be the only reason you ARE buying this. Aesthetically speaking, this is toned-down by gaming desktop standards, but the wide, angular, light-up evil green chassis should make plenty clear that you are not purchasing this for professional, customer-facing use. If you do, though, you should know you're cashing in on an unequivocally good deal. Even when you're not gaming, the system comes with a fast, upgradeable 128 GB SSD for you to store games and other intensive programs. You use the remaining terabyte disk space for small documents and files and other work, making this an ideal balance for work and play. Big fan.

This was a fairly easy setup. Open box, unwrap, plug into Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse and turn on. After a few answering some Questions, Windows 10 1809 is setup and your computer is on your network and registered with HP. Kudos for a simple a process. The included programs were minimal, with minimal bloatware, unlike you normally get on OEM computers. It was lumped into three categories: Branded HP Programs including Support help if you need, WildTangent and McAfee. Feel free to remove McAfee, Windows 10 comes default with Windows Defenders, the default Microsoft Anti-virus program that is free (McAfee is only a 30 day trial) and I find it works better than McAfee. At this point the computer is usable and you can install the games/setup Windows 10 the way you like and the computer will be adequate if you have basic needs. Congratulations. However if you are planning on actually using this computer continue reading. After looking at what/how HP setup the PC out of the box, I examined the case, and noticed there is no real airflow. The holes on the side that look like air can get it, are mostly blocked by the side mounted drive sled holding the 1TB drive and DVD Burner. HP decided to go for this small sleek look and overlook cooling in the case and stifle airflow. No front intake fans, no side intake fans, just the one exhaust fan on the back. It being winter, it was nice to come back into the house and rest my hands at the back of the computer and warm them from the air coming out. This is important because both the Video Card (RX580 4GB, not bad card) and the CPU (AMD 2700) can boost to provide extra power during heavy usage, however, this gets more limited as the components get hot and will throttle back to stay cool. On idle this computer runs around 45 Celsius. Compared to the other two desktops I have in the house, one Intel and one AMD, this computer runs at idle about 15 degrees hotter. To ensure a good gaming experience I have been limiting the machine to 60 Frames a second in games like Overwatch, Destiny 2 and Forza Horizon 4. This means the GPU and CPU aren't running at 100% keeping the machine "coolish" and giving the appearance of a smooth game performance. However if the case had better cooling, I could unleash the full performance and get more frames, which anyone playing Overwatch, Fortnite or other online games will know, more frames make for a better experience and help. This case won't do it, and it is a shame, because the parts HP used are good. The CPU is an AMD 2700, very good for games and streaming at the same time with all the threads, the SSD is made by Samsung, while small, its drives are some of the best, the 1TB Storage drive is a 7200 RPM Western Digital. The RAM is 2666MHZ and actually clocked to that speed (even if the timings on the RAM are looser then we like, CL19 according to H/W Info) from Samsung. Even if HP doesn't have a decent BIOS to help with overclocking (with the thermals in this case I can understand way) Ryzen Master would let you overclock if you could get some cooling. If they had even sunk a side fan to help suck in the air, I'm sure that would help. I know I am harping on Thermals, but it's important. Cooler computers, means cooler components, which mean longer life. This hotbox also impacts the RX 580 Video card. Since the air is hotter in the case, it runs a bit hotter, which means a bit less performance. Now I can see HP designers were targeting the computer to run at a solid and boring 60fps and this machine can do it, but at the loss of performance. What is the point of having these nice components if you can maximize the performance. Honestly HP has a good PC, just a horrible case, a not great motherboard (it's not bad, just not good and good be better, again for getting the most out of your CPU/GPU). The biggest annoyance is the Wireless card that’s part of the motherboard, is only a 1x1, which means it can only run one channel on Wireless AC. This limits the wireless speed and overall performance of the wireless card. It works, but it could be a lot better. Most wireless chipsets are 2x2 or more allowing for a better Wireless experience. Where I have it in my house its only 30 feet in a direct line of sight from the router, but you may have problems depending on where you place, if you get this PC. Overall the biggest problem is the case. HP took a great CPU, perfect for a teen to do light streaming and gaming with no issues and killed the overall potential of the platform. Yes it works, and I'm sure HP tested to ensure it will work within spec, but it could be a lot better, and if you game and know Hardware you want to get the best price/performance you can get and in all honesty you won't from this PC. At this point, I'm going to get a new Motherboard and case, and move the parts into something that will allow these parts to perform as I know they can. I do not recommend this PC for gaming. It will work, but there are better PC's with better cooling, and if you are thinking of moving this PC to a new case, just buy your parts and build from scratch. I give it two stars because it works, HP used a decent set of parts, there was minimal bloatware installed and it was an easy out of box setup, but beyond that, there is nothing to recommend this PC to anyone.

Introduction: If you are looking for a great gaming PC this is it. The price is great, especially when you consider all that you are getting with this gaming PC. Unless you are looking for the absolute ultimate gaming computer and willing to pay thousands of $$$$, this is definitely for you. Design: The brushed hairline pattern on the tower makes it look stylish and it stands out from regular PCs. The height and width of this gaming PC is about the same as most computer towers and it comes with a basic mouse and keyboard. Description: This gaming PC has a 128G Solid State Drive and starts up very quickly. Compared to a regular PC, it seems like it is an instant start up and no lagging between opening up programs. This is my first gaming PC and I love it! Graphics are really good and no lagging in any of the games I’ve played. There is a HUGE difference from the PC I have been trying to play games on. What makes it even better is that it has 4G of RAM designated just for the graphics card…what not to love. The graphics card makes for excellent quality when watching movies, Netflix, etc. With 16G of RAM, I can have more programs running at the same time and not have any problems at all. You can expand to 32G of RAM. I don’t see why you would need to, but if you are into that kind of thing at least you can do it. It has a 1TB hard drive, so I can save tons of movies, music, videos, pictures and everything I could possibly need on this. It has a DVD/CD burner, in case you like to save photos, movies etc. on discs. It also has a built-in media reader that supports SD, Micro SD, etc., so you can transfer all your photos easily. Nice feature: This computer has the required specs to run Virtual Reality hardware and software and I can’t wait to try that out which will be my next purchase or just a really nice Christmas present to myself. It is a great feature to have and definitely not something that is on all gaming PCs. Recommendation: Considering everything this computer has, it is well worth the price. I am extremely happy with it and I highly recommend it.

So I bought this for my kids for Christmas 2018. We have an old HP Pavilion Desktop that I had added a graphics card to as well as better power back so they could game a little. But as with most older Windows based computers, it slowed over time. Anyway, went in to BB and spoke with a representative that was extremely helpful. I told him for me, personally I'm an Apple guy due to the Macs being so reliable and fast. Thats when he explained to me what a SSD (Solid State Drive) was...... mind blown! All these years had no idea what the difference in storage was. Back to business. This machine is super fast for internet gaming which is mostly what my kids use it for. Fortnite, Roblox and all the Steam games. Boots in about 10 seconds which is something I never knew a windows computer could do! Original purchase price was $1049, but then went on sale three days after purchase. Called BB and boom, price matched and account credited! Downfalls, the size of the SSD, at only 128 GB is pretty much full right out of the box. Not a ton of room for expandability, but for most people it will be more than enough.

As desktops seem to be fading into the realm of afterthought, those of us who use them for gaming and heavy workload processing (video) have become somewhat of an enigma to the rest of the world. Well, sorry, but I still need a powerful workstation at times; and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Enter the HP Pavilion Ryzen 7-Series Gaming Desktop. The machine came well packaged, as one might expect. I think every PC I have opened has had just about the same packaging, and this one was no different. The first thing I noticed when unboxing was the looks of the box. It’s very slick and appealing. It doesn’t look futuristic or wild, like some gaming rigs, and in this case, I think that’s a good thing. The included keyboard and mouse are pretty standard fare, but better than what’s usually included with an average CPU. Put it this way, if you are a gamer, this will not do, period. Also, there are quite a few convenient connectivity ports located on the box. There are 2 USB 3.1 ports and a couple of USB 2 – for device connectivity. The USB 3 ports allow high speed data transfer, which bodes well for gaming from external media, as well as transferring large files. Set up was pretty simple and straight forward. This is a Windows 10 machine, and most should be pretty familiar with the environment. Performance for day to day tasks is very snappy, but that should be expected from a PC that’s designed for gaming. How’s the gaming performance? It’s admirable. This machine seems suited to the average PC gamer, and that’s not a bad thing. Casual games run like a dream, and less complex 3D games are as smooth as butter. When playing more complex games (detailed first-person shooters, for example) the framerate can suffer when played on the highest setting. This is not to say this PC can’t handle the game, or that it renders it unplayable. It’s just that hardcore gamers looking for the best performance (1080p @ 60+ FPS on CoD) need to look elsewhere. For me, as someone who is a console gamer first, PC gamer second, it’s excellent. It more than handles the games I throw at it, and is an excellent box for photo, video, and audio editing. This PC is a powerful machine capable of more than satisfying the entertainment needs of the average PC gamer. It has a very slick look, and great usability with it’s built in, cutting edge, wireless connectivity and port availability. It’s nearly a can’t miss.

Solid PC for 1080p Gaming + All Multimedia Work

This is really a 4.5 star review. Overall, I'm happy with this HP desktop. It's got the power needed to handle many different multimedia applications and programs, decent enough storage options, and solid 1080p gaming. The only things that hold this back is size, as there are limited upgrade options should you ever choose to do so. First off, this is a small computer. It's light at 15 or so pounds, and is almost half the size of a "gaming" full-size tower. This is good if it's something you want, but keep in mind that a smaller case can make it harder to work inside, should you ever do so. The real goodies of this bundle come from the AMD Ryzen processor, Samsung memory, and the Radeon RX GPU. This processor is all most people will ever need it, and can handle multimedia whenever needed. It also means that when gaming you won't find any bottlenecking happening due to the processor. My unit featured standard Samsung memory (16GB) in the two DIMM slots. This is better than other manufacturers for onboard RAM. The GPU is an OEM Radeon 580, which is perfect for most 1080p gaming. Keep in mind that the OEM doesn't look as flashy, perform as well (blower style fan), or have great cooling as aftermarket units, but that doesn't mean you can't use it. It's great for lighter games, and can push most games on medium or high in 1080p no problem. The biggest cons are: PSU is lacking additional power, and smaller case makes getting to certain components like hard drive and SSD tougher. It should fit a full-size GPU, however, but the PSU probably won't be able to push it. In the end, this is a recommended PC, provided you get it on sale. I wouldn't pay the standard MSRP, but for $700-800, you've got a solid machine for all types of work.

I gotta start with the solid state drive. I hate having such a small "C" drive, but the speed that it's able to open up Windows 10 and have it running can't be beat. Once the price comes down on 1tb drives, I'll probably swap it out. Maybe even a 512 if I see a great deal. That said, it does have a 1tb storage drive as well as a spot for an additional 3.5 drive. There is one empty sata power cable and slot on the mobo for the drive...Yup, I checked. That said, here are my pros and cons. Pros 2 front USB 3.0 slots, 4 USB 3.0 on the rear with 2 USB 2.0 (for my mechanical keyboard). All those slots will make it easier to run external drives. CPU: The Ryzen 7 2700 is awesome. I've been running an i5-6400 and it's getting tired with all the tabs I have open, running photoshop and itunes. This thing doesn't even blink with that workload. The 16GB of memory seem good enough for any game I want to play. There are only 2 slots on the mobo, so a bit of a bummer if you want to go to 32GB, but I'm glad they used to 8s so it runs in dual channel. I mentioned the drives already, but the 1tb is enough storage for gaming and as stated, one can add another storage drive with little effort. I like the future tech of USB 3.1 type C on the front as well as the 3 in 1 card reader. The Radeon RX 580 seems to run just fine. I've always been an Nvidia user and my current rig has the GeForce GTX 950 (probably another reason it's sllloooowww). The case looks nice with the green lighting. The face doesn't look as embossed as the online photos, but nice. Lastly, the HP unit comes with much less bloatware than in the past. I've built a couple rigs, but lately, it's just easier to get a built unit for my needs. I only had to remove McAfee and install BitDefender (I have the 5 machine package) and remove a few things like Wild Tangent games. Cons: Hum.......I wish it had a 256 or 512 solid state drive. The keyboard and mouse are wired units and pretty basic...but hey, it comes with both. That's really about it. I don't have much bad to say about it. It runs fast and well, I had no issues with any of the features. It connected to my network and updated Windows rather painlessly. I'd recommend this to anyone in need of processing power for video editing or playing games.

This little machine is a workhorse. I had a little trouble figuring out how to add an additional hard drive, but it goes on the other side of the tray that the original hard drive is mounted on. Getting into Windows was a breeze. I got my Bluetooth keyboard connected to it easily. I played a few games and the view was amazing, although my gameplay wasn't so much. It boots very quickly. If you need to get into the BIOS, like I did, you have to hit the Esc key repeatedly from a cold boot as soon as you hit the power button. If you're not on the Esc key within 2 seconds, you've probably missed the BIOS. Virtualization was not enabled by default, which is why I had to get in there. This is a great little machine that looks and runs much better than anything I've ever built.
