Got this printer to replace our 25 year old HP-5P. That printer was still working well, although slowly. Biggest problem we have is plastic parts becoming brittle and breaking and HP no longer manufactures the toner cartridge, but they are available as re-manufactured. Unboxing, see photos, was a snap and the only part I had to connect was the tray cover. Even the toner was already in place. Installation under Windows 10 was easy, except for one small step. The Setup Guide says to turn on the printer and download and install the HP Smart software and run it. I had a feeling and sure enough the software reported it couldn’t find a printer. Well duh, the instructions said to connect the USB cable after running the software instead of (correctly) before. Once I did the installation proceeded flawlessly. I then proceeded to connect the printer to my wireless network. Thanks to the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) feature this was a snap. We have now been using the printer for a while and are very happy with it. We love the ability to print on both sides (although I had to go into Printer Properties to enable this feature) and boy is it fast. And importantly, the print quality is excellent! We have had no issues, paper jams, etc. with it. The small size fits perfectly into our home office and it is very attractive. I opted not to enroll in the Instant Ink program, a monthly fee and HP sends toner as needed, until I get a better feel for usage. Speaking of the toner cartridge, it couldn’t be easier to replace – lift one cover and there it is. While it doesn’t affect my review, I did receive the printer at a reduced price in exchange for writing this fair and impartial review. #HPPrintersDecember2.0Insiders

Delivered quickly. Packaged securely. Easy to unbox and set up with my MacBook Pro. Print quality is very good. However, the default setting was a little light. Had to make adjustments in the admin software to dark the prints.

Perfect. Works seamlessly with Apple AirPrint! Prints quick, and just what I was looking for. Easy setup, you do not have to have the subscription, you can also buy toner as needed from HP.

hp smart print is a nightmare

nothing but problem. had it for a year now. cons: hp smart print doesn't work 80% of the time. it's so hard to do wireless printing on this printer. always shows printer offline when it's clearly online. only way to print is restart the printer, every single day you need to print! also hp smart is such a waste of time! it's extra steps just to make your life painful. the older printers (I've been using hp printer for 20 years)you wireless print directly to the printer, now you have to choose hp smart print, wait for it to load the said printer, wait for it to be online, then print. I can not tell you how frustrating it is. on top of having to restart the machine each day you print! -overheats if you print large qualities, and it will stop waiting to cool down before resuming printing. pros: -print quality is fine -print speed is really good, on double sides too
