Beware of the ongoing cost of using this printer. You're sucked into signing up for a monthly ink-cartridge/number of copies plan. Yes, the first three months are free, as I recall. After that, you make a plan choice based on how many pages you print each month. We chose the moderate, 100-page plan for $6.99. If you go over 100 pages, you're charged about 5 cents per page. Anyway, we went way over 100 copies in one recent month, so we changed to the 300-page plan for $13.99. There's a certain amount of roll-over from month to month.
HP knows how many pages you printed on what date, whether they're b/w or color. It knows if you need to replace the cartridges. And there seems to be some requirement that you change the cartridges even if there's ink still in them-- like they "expire" after a certain date. So that's a waste of good ink in a so-called expired cartridge. And if you don't subscribe and use the HP-delivered ink, the software is disabled. Found on Reddit: "the printers are disabled or restricted from printing if they detect non-HP ink cartridges". Great.
This is also a very noisy printer. You'd think it was malfunctioning from all the noise it makes when it's printing. It squeaks and rattles like it needs to be oiled. The look of the printer is kind of cheap AND the control screen is very awkward to read. Rather than being on a slant like on the HP8600, it's flat on the side and you have to get the light just right to be able to read it. Ugh.
We had an HP8600 for about 10 years-- thank you for your service 8600! It was a more substantial, solid printer that copied and scanned and faxed, if we'd wanted to use that feature. You could use the ink up until it was gone and not worry that you were being forced to waste ink. I'm thinking now we should have had the printer head replaced in the 8600 instead of getting this lesser model. So think twice-- no three times-- about this one.

Works amazing for printing pictures which was the only reason I purchased it.. You do have to get HP brand and specific picture printer paper for it though. Very easy to set up as well.

This model of printer was the second I have purchased from HP. I will continue to use this printer. No issues at all, connects great for wireless printer. Perfect for a small business!

Poor quality construction. Prints great until it doesn't.
Known for print carriage jams From fractured Print feed gears, which require gear replacement. Repair difficult in that taking the printer apart is difficult, and realignment of replaced gear is not and easy task as well. bluetooth printing is very unreliable. I have used Hp printers for years. Done with Hp Printers

I have had this printer 3+ years and would give it sn overall D+ or C- This printer prints great as long as you want basic printing. However, i have spent hours on the phone with support regarding scanning using the printer control panel as well as printer pulling multiple pages when using auto feed. I also have had problems when using heavier weight paper. The settings are very hard to find to change paper type and it occasionally will tell me i am not an authorized user and cannot make changes. the software is lousy and support has acknowledged that to me, i have kept it because it does print well but it was expensive (back then it was $379) to be used as a basic printer. The other functions i wanted it for (scanning from the printer control panel, different weight paper, auto feed) i would rate a D. If it ever stops printing i will NOT replace it with an HP and i have had HPs forever. I purchased a standalone Epson scanner to do my multiple page scans .

All in all it's a good printer. It is a little slow to get going and I've noticed when printing multiple copies of the same thing, the shades vary but for what I'm using it for, it's not an issue.

When it was first set up it kept getting a fatal error. I kept it on for about a day and now I have no fatal error.
I also downloaded The HO Smart app which helped with setup.
