I enjoy my new HP desktop. It was easy to set up and runs much quieter than my old tower did. Windows 8.1 took a little bit to get used to, but I'm getting there. The only downside is that there is no Word Processing software with this computer, just a trial and then you have to buy Office.

Is this computer slow or is it just me?

I purchased a few of these, along with the Windows 8.1 Pro upgrade, so I could use them in a work environment. I don't need MUCH performance...Only enough to have users open a Remote Desktop connection and occasionally use the Chrome browser on their local workstation. I only needed Windows 8.1 Pro, because I need the workstations to connect to a domain. These computers do take care of my needs, but I feel like they are a bit underperforming in regards to CPU or RAM. It literally took 30 minutes on each computer to uninstall the Mcafee 30 day trial & 30 wildtangent games that come preloaded on the computer. It then took an hour for the upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro. It doesn't seem like it was taking that long because of the software...It seems like the computer is just a bit slow, because it would lag out while it was doing these steps. After that, I downloaded Chrome and Logmein. Again, it took way too long to install these programs. I haven't heard any complaints from the users of these computers and usually no news is good news, so maybe in day-to-day operations the computer is fast. Maybe snails like salt too? If there are any major updates (as in the computer users tell me the computer is really slow or actually good), I will update this review.

This is a very attractive computer and for the cost, it seems like a really good value. It sets up like a dream and is up and running in a few minutes. The problems begin as soon as you boot up and attempt to do even basic web use. It is slow, freezes and just does not perform. I was ready to pack it up and bring it back... then I decided to try one thing. I downloaded Google Chrome as the browser instead of IE 11- and this computer took right off! Fast, smooth and not a freeze or drag since! My suggestion is to get Chrome the minute you set this system up and you will be extremely happy with it!

Overall, this PC performs well. Display and sound quality are both good. It has a particularly small footprint, runs quietly, and starts up incredibly quickly due to the new Windows 8 improvements. My one complaint is about speed - I'm using a 46" 1080HD tv as the monitor, and there are lags when it's doing any two things at once. (Two chrome windows? Be prepared to wait). Streaming online video is nearly impossible, even without fullscreen viewing. The 4GB of RAM that comes stock just isn't sufficient (fortunately, it is upgradeable to 16GB). While I think the upgrade should quell any issues, the current price of 16GB is about 50% of what I paid for the PC itself, so it takes a little excitement away from what a bargain this unit was. RAM aside, it's a great buy and I'm entirely pleased with my decision to buy it.

This computer is just amazing for the price. It was so easy to set up, practically did it all itself. It is perfect for the everyday user. Nice and small, you can store it on your desk.

I needed an inexpensive, reasonably featured machine to replace a failing desktop in an office environment. This machine is adequate, but not the fastest machine around. I also despise Windows 8.

Loved the price and almost everything else about the HP - Pavilion Slimline Desktop. I have been unhappy only with the anti-virus and follow up questions with the Geek squad.

Bought as a gift for the grandparents. This is a great machine, if what you are looking for is a basic machine to do light computing. It is quite capable internet surfing, and good for light document creation, etc.

The HP was fairly easy to set up, and after a few false starts, everything is working fine. It comes with windows 8, which takes a little getting used to. Windows 8 is not good or bad, just different. I surf the Web, use Open Office, Paint Shop Pro and read email. That is about all, so I can't comment on how it is for gaming or other, more demanding stuff.

When my kid's 8 year old PC finally kicked it beyond repair, we needed a PC fast for homework's sake. She needed fast web access and MS Office. I was reluctant to look at this machine because it came with Win8. But the price was so good that I couldn't really say no; weighing my immediate need for a box and the fact that Win8 wasn't going away. It does exactly what it needs to do. It runs pretty flawlessly and handles Win8, Chrome, Office2013 just fine. My kids don't game so I can't speak to amy high end video capabilities. Secret bonus: it has wifi built in. I saw that listed no where, including the HP site but when I was doing first boot and setup, it pulled up the surrounding networks; I was very pleasantly surprised. Pro: Quiet, decent speed, wifi included, low cost Con: 4GB RAM (base), cheap mouse & keyboard, limited expandability, LOTS of Bloatware preinstalled by HP.

I was looking for a supplemental computer and didn't want a laptop. This slimline has the speed and storage that I needed, but really is "slim" so it isn't intrusive or get in the way. Good value for the money!

Adding RAM was to be expected and not expensive, even with the cost of the RAM the price was good. Did not expect lightening speed but did think that I would get better speed. All I do is e-mail, facebook and internet searches so I am not a heavy user so I thought that this would be good enough. Still not sure if I had it to over again I would be willing to pay twice as much for a system that was just a little faster.
