This Is A Warning

This is a warning for anyone looking to buy an HP laptop let alone a PC laptop, as well as a warning for anyone purchasing from Best Buy and hopeful of receiving transparent and available customer support. Before I delve into that, it's important to note for the past 7 years I had a MacBook Pro (it even survived Peace Corps service). After extensive research, I decided to depart from Apple and get a laptop that was better on paper. I researched extensively by watching YouTube reviews, reading and comparing customer and tech site reviews, and comparing companies (HP and Apple) market goals. I ultimately bought an HP because it had better specs. Keep in mind in the prior 7 years I rarely had any technical or customer support problems with my MacBook Pro. So now let me get back on track. Last September I buy an HP Spectre 360, and return it after I become fearful the trackpad is loose. The trackpad maker, Synapse, is mediocre. The second Spectre fairs much better in this regard (even still I try not to use the trackpad much), and after 4 months of use my HP Spectre crashes. It appears to be a hard drive failure. All of my data is allegedly lost (not backed up, learned my lesson). I treated my Spectre like a baby, made the transition to PC from Apple, and the gods end up trolling. Still under the 1 year warranty, I call Best Buy in Pleasant Hill. They cant help me for some time because they are completely booked. So I contact Emeryville, the same day my laptop crashes I'm able to go into the store to have them ship my laptop to HP. GeekSquad tells me I have the option to pay for HP to extract my data, for a price ranging from ~$200-$1000. Uh, no. And by the way, since this is HP's fault, be it a manufacturing anomaly or whatever, shouldn't they pay? In any case, the GeekSquad guy tries to reassure me, "I have an HP Spectre at home and it runs perfectly, this is rare". I've heard a similar phrase before by another Best Buy employee. At this point I'm skeptical, and tired of insipid salesmanship. It made me think back to when I was an Apple customer, and how the customer service reps were transparent and available. So I finish up with GeekSquad, and they ship it out. I call HP, and a man, seemingly from a Middle Eastern country, told me HP wouldn't be able to extract my data. Ultimately, I'm now waiting for HP to repair and ship back my Spectre. And from now on, I'll be praying nothing goes wrong, especially after the 1 year warranty expires, and will consider (one day) switching back to Apple. The next time a Best Buy employee tells me they have the exact same laptop at home I'll respond with "you're fake news".
