I want to begin this review by stating that I have been in the IT industry for over 18 years. I've setup and installed hundreds (if not thousands at this point) or printers. I began by setting this printer up in my office. Un-boxing was super simple, and all there is to it is plug it in and turn it on. You need to download a smartphone app called "HP Smart" which guides you through the process. It immediately found my printer and began walking me through connecting to my wifi. I am using 802.11x at the office, this requires login from Active Directory (Windows server authentication for you non-techies) to allow on my enterprise wireless. This printer does not support this very widely adopted technology so it was impossible to use this printer in my office without setting up a new type of wireless. This was the first annoyance. So I took it home. I plugged it in, and spent literally an hour trying to figure out how to connect it to my home network. It retained the settings from my office and nowhere on the printer itself or the smart phone app does it give me the option to change it. I went to HP.com and downloaded the user guide, and followed instructions to reset to factory settings, then I could connect to my home internet. For a printer meant for extremely non-technical people, this was insanely frustrating and ridiculous. For most users who are not changing networks, setup is still very easy. For a technical person used to setting up printers in a more advanced / correct manor, this printer is infuriating. Once setup I ran through the "calibration" setup. This was easy and required no interaction from me other than to print the page, it self aligns. I put in some photo paper that came with the printer and printed a couple photos. You have to set the paper size in the app before printing despite the printer having sliders and being able to detect paper width. The app offers no preview to show you which orientation your printing from so my first photos came out sideways leaving white borders on the sides. This was easily solved, but wasted some sample photo paper. Once properly rotated though, the photos came out easily and in very good quality. This printer relied on your phone camera to take pictures of documents then use those pictures to print out "copies". There is no built in scanner in this printer so copies / scans are really printed pictures of documents. The app addresses this by blowing out the contrast so you have extreme whites and blacks. The result is a very decent copy, for most people this will be acceptable. For any real business need though, an actual scanner will still be better. This printer supports AirPrint for Apple Devices so you can print without the need for the HP app itself, though the app has some nice features that pair well with the printer so I'd recommend sticking with the HP Smart app instead. Overall I don't really see the point in this printer. I am not sure the goal or aim here. It is too overly simplified in my opinion to be really useful. It relies heavily and almost exclusively on smart phone printing, though you can print from a PC or MAC, there is software available that will interface, but this does not work like a regular printer. If you are extremely technology illiterate, only have a mobile tablet or phone and need the most basic and simplistic printer on the market, this may be for you. Otherwise, look to anything else.

      Hi there,

First of all, thank you so much for your detailed review. This information is really helpful to our product development teams, and we'll be using this to improve the experience for future customers.

It's great to hear that you took to the print quality and features of the HP Smart app, but I am sorry for the frustration you experienced with some of the printer's wireless capabilities. Considering your extensive experience with printers, I can fully understand your disappointment when not being able to set this one up in your office or easily switch to a home network.

As you rightfully noted, this printer does not support the wireless protocols typically used in an office. On the contrary, it's only intended for consumer use on home networks. Although you had some initial issues with connecting the printer to your own, I'm pleased to hear that you were ultimately able to do so after a factory reset.

If you'd like to avoid taking that step in the future, however, a 5-second press of the Wi-Fi button will restore the printer's default network settings alone. Step 8 of the following document explains this: support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06069834

For any other questions that you may have, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're always happy to help, so feel free to get in contact with us anytime: hp.com/contactHP

Beautifully designed, streamlined and portable. The cover is sturdy and makes for easy and attractive storage or travel. Set up is easy and quick with great app features. We test printed a photo on standard paper...gorgeous! If this printer had a battery charging option for cord free operation, it would be the PERFECT truly travel printer. But I cannot find or imagine a better personal printer. And as always, Best Buy provided a seamless purchase transaction and prompt delivery! Beware of online ordering from the other well known office supply store, as they took my money but never sent my printer! Thank you Best Buy for your continued stellar service and selection!

From one mac techi / HP Printer Lover to a Future One: Not so long ago my HP Premium Photo All in One Print decided to stop printing... And I was left with business document to print and not printer. On my early research stages, I came across this sleek and slim printer and while initially passing it, I thought what could that printer really do? and went on to look at the All in One model printers which I was accustom to handling my small business productivity load. Finally, when I came back around for a second look up close, I eyes did a double take as I began to realized that this sleek printer could do all of the same things my old printer was doing Plus MORE! (minus the 2-sided printer capability and the faxing) I realized this printer, Tango X was in a league of it's own. This next level Hi-Tec. focused printer, just makes it easier for all my mobile office needs. It's secured and made everything very seemless, from copying to scanning, and emailing doc. straight from my files on iCloud or even the fun creative printing projects I love to do. So whether I'm on my iPhone 8 Plus, my iPad or my Mac Book Pro, after downloading my HP Smart App that allowed me to make everything so easy to navigate w/ great scanning capacity and high resolution quality for text doc's and photo's. I soon began telling all my friends about this Amazing printer. Awesome Job HP - I'm your new #1 Printer Lover all over again! Keep up the great work :-) Important note: There is a little learning curve to become familiar with HP Smart App, but it is SO WORTH IT and soon became second nature. I LOVE MY TANGO X!!!

    Great printer, but wireless only

All I needed was a color printer for small jobs, and while all-in-ones are great, I already have a flatbed scanner so didn't want another one. I love that it's sleek and compact and doesn't look like a clunky printer when not in use. It's wireless, which is tidier, and it's nice to have the option of printing from my phone.. but getting it to connect to WiFi, downloading a phone app and driver for my desktop Mac, setting them up in a particular order, and getting them all to talk to each other was frustrating. I followed the directions, but ended up stuck in a loop when setting up the desktop app because it wouldn't recognize the printer no matter what I tried. Not gonna lie, I had visions of that scene in Office Space where they beat up the printer. But somehow, something I did got it out of the hell loop and everything suddenly worked.. though I really don't know what it was that I did to fix it. -- The first test print was blurry, but it just need calibration and the prints after looked great. There's also a fax feature in the app which I haven't used yet, but it's a good option to have. I've had it less than a month, but so far it's doing its job, doing it fast, and looking good in the process. My only issue is its reliance on WiFi. I do wish there was the option to connect it with a cable.

This printer is nice if you have small jobs to do or frequently like to print your own photos. Since it’s wireless you can place it anywhere in your living space and not have to have it attached to a computer. It prints 4X8 color photos nicely and quickly. It prints fast for a small printer. Comes with a nice cover so that it keeps the dust out of it.

This thing prints great pics! Easy setup, Easy to use, Compact, & Sleek. I've had a lot of printers, never had one that's so easy to use and provides great quality. You can't go wrong with this printer & be sure to take advantage of the auto cartridge shipments. They take care of everything and at a great price.

I didn't know something like this even existed, however, I am happy I have found it. The printer takes no time at all to set up, works with my computer and my iPhone and iPad. I also like the fact that you can sign up for ink and it comes only when you need it. I also like the fact that anything printed for your idevices are not counted against you, only if you print from a computer. Do realize that this depends on Wifi, which is how it can constantly monitor your ink. Granted, it goes to sleep, but I get the sense that it's not completely asleep, so that it is able to stay connected. The print time is quick, and it wakes up just as quickly. Oh, and, apparently the difference between Tango and Tango X is the ink capacity and the cool little case/tray, which folds up and puts it sleep. I can't recommend this printer enough! It's a great little printer, doesn't take up much room, but is still very powerful.

Set up was super easy! Printer is very sleek and slim looking and I love that I can put the cover on and it doesn't even look like a printer. My friend recommended to use with our MacBook Air's, Works great with it and my apple family of phones etc. Ink is easy to install and pages come out and print awesome. Highly recommend. I did not join the instant ink because I am a bargain shopper and didn't like the idea of paying for ink monthly when I may not need it at the time.

This printer is great for the individual who needs to print things occasionally from their phone or tablet. I wouldn’t recommend this printer for individuals who need to scan documents since the printer doesn’t have one built in. The scanning feature is utilized through the app and requires a picture to be taken of the document. However, for my needs of a printer that is small, wireless, and integrates easily with my iPhone and iPad, this is a great choice.

I love this product! I needed something that would take minimal space and that I could keep tucked out of the way when not in use. This fits both! Used to print my daughters school work. And the ink program is perfectly paired with it. Prints beautifully, quickly, and was easy to set up and link to my phone. I'm able to print via bluetooth anything she needs for school!

I didn’t have any trouble setting it up, it was super easy! You just have to let it sit for 2 hours. I have a small room so when I’m done I unplug it and put it away in a drawer in my desk and every time I take it out to use it it’s super quick I can probably print instantly almost. It’s so great!!!! It’s small enough to store away in the bigger Alex drawers from ikea

Highly recommend this printer. Sometimes these wireless focused printers have connection issues if you have a bunch of different types of devices (in my case, an iPhone, MacBook, and PC) and I have not had any such issues. The app on the phone and desktop is easy to use and works seamlessly. The design is super sleek and definitely isn't an eye-sore in a loft unlike most printers.

Love the size, color, sleekness, & quality of printing. The only change I would make is adding the plastic tray in that comes on the other model in addition to the cover that seconds as a paper tray. If the cover isn’t opened on a level surface, it’s of no use. For the price & quality, I think adding the plastic tray is a cheap change that will yield huge convenience results.

Set up was quick and easy. I bought it for my first semester. The size and cover you can add on is perfect. I basically have all my school related items in a cube storage in one cube so the size was perfect. It prints quick not a long time from pressing print to it printing. The app is super easy and up to date.

I wish I had paid closer attention when purchasing this printer, as it does not appear to be able to print double-sided... which I find pretty impractical. Also does not have a scanner which, I should have noticed, but seems like an expensive printer for what it is able to do, functionality-wise. It is a very small, compact printer which is why I had ordered it, but it also prints very fast and tends to smear ink. Overall, I am very disappointed and will likely have to find something else.
