I used to own the Mate 8. I loved that phone. So I decided to get the Mate 9 for the awesome camera upgrade from the 8. I will never own any other phone except Huawei. I never had any issues. I love the performance and quality of this phone. Highly recommend to anyone!

I typically buy 1 new current model iPhone each year. For being the "know all, end all, be all" cell phone it just doesn't seem to leap fast enough with available technology. Since 2005 I've had a smart android phone {HTC or Samsung} and then in 2010 went Apple. After buying flagship phones since. About 2 years ago I peeked in at the "no name" androids and "field tested" while operating with Apples the underdog androids (Asus, ZTE) and recently studied MATE 9 against all the other mid-line phones. . Bought it & Best Buy even had it on sale $400. (fortunately having kids it's a natural "hand me down" chain for trading out all my testing phones! I did buy a phone that was a 1 model year old.... But the brand spanking-new just being released... The Mate 10's features did not warrant doubling the purchase price [just because it was being rolled out at the same time I was buying a android to test while owning the iPhone 8...and Pixel 2. The HUAWEI is the new Samsung but only $500-$700 cheaper! Go mid-line if considering an android and Huawei MATE 9 is still considered a "flagship" phone in the mid-line. Every phone that doesn't use an Apple or Samsung logo is working harder to win your heart and their technology deserves a 2nd look! Don't be a sheeple, use that YouTube and do some research. Of course, if you lock yourself in a cell contract with V or S..... Then Apple or Samsung has you shackled.

Rivals the top flagship phones from 2017. I love the large screen and great all day battery life. I own a galaxy s8+ and I can't decide which phone is better!

I change phones all the time. In the last 8 months I've had an iPhone SE, iPhone 7, ZTW Axon 7 mini, ZTE Axon 7, Huawei Honor 8, Samsung Galaxy S8 and now this one, the Huawei Mate 9. Its a keeper. All the phones I've had have something I really like about them, with the possible exception of the Galaxy S8, I just didn't like it. The Mate 9 is the best one I've found that has almost everything I like about all the other phones. Camera is great, love the depth effects (portrait mode) - pictures always delight. Sound is very good, in landscape mode - it is similar to the iPhone 7 in that it uses the earpiece as a speaker to give stereo sound - not quite as good as the Axon 7s, but almost there. The screen is beautiful, without the curved edges that I just couldn't get used to on the Samsung. And its a beautiful piece of hardware. I even like the minimal protective case that comes with the phone, its really nice and looks great. Minimal bloatware on the phone. It just does what I want, fast, when I want it. Battery lasts all day and then some. Just did a long 14 hour day travelling by air, two stops, never had to worry about the phone battery, and I read books on it through the flights. If I had to complain about anything, it would be the weight, its a bit heavy. But this is a minor gripe, doesn't really bother me that much. I very much recommend it. I plan to keep it a while.

It was time to lay my HTC one M8 to rest and i was struggling to choose between the Mate9 and the Google pixel XL. both have cons and pros in comparison so I went with what I need the most, BATTERY LIFE. the mate9 packs a 4000 Mah compared to 3450 in the Pixel XL, which make it last more. after one day only, I started the day at 7:30 am with a full battery and now its 8:50 pm with 47% battery left. I have used it for navigation, watched at least 2 hours of youtube, streamed from it to my TV, used it for 3 hours on social media, and about an hour of spotify on the way back home. very impressive battery life, not to mention that i work in a deadzone office which increases the drainage of battery because the phone is constantly looking for cell reception. one other thing I like about this phone over the pixel is that it comes with 2 important accessories that the Pixel does not: A very elegant case, and headphones. The mate9 also have bigger screen (6 inch). compared to 5.5 on the pixel. the software is very clean cut, not much of bloatware. the only down side I can think of after just one day of use is the speaker volume on this device. its not as impressive as my HTC speakers or the Google pixel XL. Partly because the speakers are actually on the lower base of the phone, not on the front. other than that, this is a blazing fast phone with a cheaper price tag and almost a better hardware.

I am a long-time user of Samsung smartphones and, until recently, my phone of choice was the Samsung Note 8. I'm always curious about other Android phones and I had read good reviews of the Huawei Mate 9 and the Honor 7X (Honor is a sub-brand of Huawei). When the Mate 9 went on sale recently I bought one and started using it as my daily driver. Much to my surprise, I preferred the Mate 9 to my Note 8. I’m going to turn 79 this year and both my vision and hearing are feeling their age. The Mate 9’s “old style” display, a 16:9 LCD screen with 1080p resolution, was easier on my eyes and the speaker seemed louder. I could have lowered the resolution on my Note 8 and increased the size of the icons and text, but it didn’t seem to make much sense to “dumb down” Samsung’s flagship smartphone. Also, I found that I wasn’t using some of the features on the Note 8 such as the S-pen. I decided to sell my Note 8 and keep the Mate 9. As much as I like the Mate 9, I miss wireless charging and Samsung’s Alcantara case. The lack of wireless charging is offset by the longer battery life and faster charging on the Mate 9, but I haven’t found a case for the Mate 9 that feels as good in my hand as the Alcantara case. The Mate 9 user interface, EMUI 5, is not bad but I’m using the Nova Prime launcher. In fairness to Huawei, I have used Nova Prime on all my Android devices, including the Note 8. As Huawei and Honor phones become better established in the US, I hope software updates will be more frequent. My Mate 9 is running Android 7.0 and the security updates are not current. I spoke with Huawei tech support and was told that new software has been released but the updates are pushed in batches and it might take a couple of months for the new software to be pushed to my phone.

Awesome phone. Battery life is top notch. For having a 5.9" screen, size is manageable. Zippy menus, cool camera, great speakers, call quality and reception are solid. Only reason I returned is it doesn't have T-Mobile WiFi calling yet.

I have owned nearly every Flagship over the last two years. With the exception of the pixel series. Of all of the phones that I have owned this by far was the best. I said it in past tense with deep regret. I like many of you reading this have a cell phone addiction and recently sold my mate 9 in order to purchase the LG G6. While the G6 is a very good phone I have regrets and wish that I could get my main tonight back. For reference I haven't kept the phone longer than 45 days and well over 4 years. I kept this phone for roughly 100 days and love just about every minute of it. The camera is top-notch the screen while only 1080p is beautiful and very bright and most importantly the battery life is simply insane. I was not a big fan of the Huawei launcher so I ended up installing Nova Launcher and fell in love with this phone. Now while this phone is the best phone. I have ever owned there are two things that I found to be problematic. The first of which was whatever I would be playing something that required streaming such as Pocket Casts or Pandora or whatever over Bluetooth once the screen went off the program would stop. This included me going into my battery management setting and keeping these programs alive when the screen turned off . the other con about this phone was the lack of accessories. Now I say that but understand that there are several cases for this phone such as the Urban Armor Gear and the Seidio cases. I myself am a huge fan of poetic cases and this was a negative for me. Overall if you are on the fence I would encourage you to buy this phone and could basically promised that you would end up loving every moment of it. I am debating selling my 2 week old G6 already and returning to this phone. If I could somehow get that streaming feature fixed it would be a perfect phone.

Hit all the major points in a cell phone like sharp camera, good call quality, fast browser, long battery life and updated design. It gets hot when used more than 30 minutes continously.

This phone has the best camera performance of any phone I've used, and yes that includes iPhones. The rest of the phone is snappy, responsive, and quick, and the fingerprint sensor is the fastest I've ever seen. Based on these alone, this phone is worth it. Taking all that with the superb camera performance in all conditions, you really can't beat this phone for the price, or really any price, unless you NEED stock Android or iOS for whatever reason.

I'm always buying new smartphones when I get tired of the phone slowing down, doesn't get updated anymore or getting tired of the major carriers bloatware. This phone is fast, responsive, well built and comes with many accessories right out of the box. Plus couldn't beat the price. I would recommend this phone to whomever is interested in purchasing it.

compare with my Nexus 6P , pretty much the same with lower price. battery durability good, good screen, loud peaker. If they can take out some build-in app like facebook that will be perfect.

I am a techy guy and I love playing and using different phones. This was the best phones as for my need. I tend to change phones every 6 month or so. I will definitely keep this one for good two years at least. Great camera and camera modes, Great Battery life, Great Processor, great screen size and great fingerprint sensor. I rather have this phone than have any of the more expensive phones just for the display.

Not only a great phone, since is is possible to insert two sim cards, so if you travel abroad there in no need to worry about having service for so much money, if your service company doesn't cover roaming. Another great feature is its battery, it needs less than others to recharge and lasts a very good deal of time. Price was not excessive and it has a great camera, so many good features! I love it!

PROS 4000 mAh battery let's you not worry about charging your phone overnight. Camera is above average. Built in 64gb is a nice touch (expandable through micro sd) Kirin 960 processor is more than capable. Phone can be charged from 0 to %50 in 30 minutes. CONS EMUI can be a headache. It's rather restrictive with running apps. Rather heavy in your pocket. No wireless charging. Screen is 1080p resolution. No wifi calling. I do not regret this purchase at all. Would highly recommend.

I had to replace my Samsung Galaxy s7 and was hesitant to buy another Samsung phone. I watched a youtube review for this one and was impressed with it as well as the price tag. It responds fast, there's a LOT of settings that allow you to personalize it to your tastes, the battery life is really good, and the camera is nice as well (doesn't do as well as my s7 in low lighting though).

It's an excellent mobile and a great camara too. The wide screen allows to read and watch videos clearly

I really like the speed of this phone. It is so quick to react to any action. The sound quality is great and the camera with this large screen is fantastic. The one big drawback is no WiFi calling capability when using T-Mobile. T-Mobile will not allow it according to their tech. This is crazy after paying this much for a phone. I would give it a five star if this was possible.

Phone is incredible. Works smoothly and quickly. The camera is very good. The screen is clean. Plenty of features. Go to the store and demo it.

I did a fair amount of research before purchasing this device, but I am still really impressed with how well it opperates compared to my LG g5.
