I have read the reviews on iHome AVS16 and did not want to believe what others were saying and looked in to it more and I have found since I have bought one myself that there is no issues with any of the features they have placed in to the Clock at all. It was very easy to set up just took a little getting used to just like with any other new tech out there. Once you understand it and get used to it, it becomes a breeze to use and connect to and from your devices. I have mine hooked in to my home network and I receive everything just as explained. I have my Amazon Alexa hooked in to it along with Pandora, Spotify, I Heart Radio and Amazon Music. I also had it grouped at one time but I was always getting up to turn off the music in the other room, made me laugh cause it got me out of bed of the morning no sleeping in. I am really impressed with the sound quality and how you can change all you settings right straight from the app you download on to your smart phone. The app walks you threw everything and then you can also go to the web from there to the support section and find anything you need to get you threw most issues you may run into. The weather portion on it is really accurate to the zip code you place in it, the display is big and easy to read. It has a usb connection on the back either for charging other items or connecting more to it I have not had the opportunity to use it yet but I know I will in the future. They have placed a lighting system in this Clock that is really great you can set it to the level you want and to the color of the mode you are in and also use it as a night light or turn it off altogether. The clock itself has a setting by using the app to have the clock dim down at night so you can sleep or just leave it on bright your choice. I am very happy with this Clock and all the features they have packed in to it. I would recommend this to any tech savvy person that want to upgrade to a great clock and sound system. Don't believe the bad reviews out there I will admit it is new and just like with any new tech it takes a little to get used too. Thumbs up on an awesome product.

Nice clock, Setting alarms verbally is a nice feature, since I go to work at a different times each day, make's resetting my alarm a breeze. Although it could use better instruction's on set-up. You will need a smart phone also WiFi service for this to work. A big con: No battery back up, so if you decide to unplug and move it or if the power goes out, you will have to go through set-up again, just a pain, also No auto clock adjustment for Daylight savings. But all in all I like the clock. Hope this helps.

Love this ihome Amazon alexa clock! Needed something with a good alarm and to wake me up. It does the job and so many other things it can do to. Ask alexa anything.

I was looking for something with a dark room of colors. And plus alarm clock. What I didn’t know was that I was able to talk to the clock with some times repeating, and learning how to say the correct commands, that was so interesting. I finally got the correct coloring from buying at best buy the LIFX (smart lightbulb) night vision; And it worked out just fine. Thanks!

I've been looking for a new clock radio for a while. I wanted one that wasn't a back lit LCD. I wanted the numbers to light up instead of black digits on a lit background. While wandering around the store, I spotted this gem! I played the demo and it sounded decent. The display type is what I was looking for, and it wasn't 'dotted' like some of the other iHome displays. (what are they trying to prove with that look?) Anyway, I loved what I saw and it was the last one and on sale, so I grabbed it. I got it home and attempted the setup. As others have said, it wasn't too easy. I had to download an app to do it which I wasn't expecting. It took 4 trues to get it to connect. On the final try I decided to press the WEP button on the router. Not sure if that helped or I just got lucky, but it was finally connected. Whew. Next, I went to set a radio station. I'm checking the buttons on the unit and in the app. No settings. Seriously? No radio built into this unit?? Wow, I got fooled. That's what I get for impulse buying! So how does it wake me up when the alarm goes off? Turns out you need to use Alexa to set your alarm! Yeah, that ain't gonna happen! I'm not gonna rely on Amazon to wake me up. What happens if my internet goes out? Whoops, i'll be late for work. For the music to wake you up, it wants access to Amazon music which I don't have, a Spotify playlist which I would have to create then wake up to the same song all the time? You can also use music from your phone, then now I have to make sure my phone is close by. So, as much as I loved this unit when I saw and heard it, I was deeply disappointed when I got it home and learned what it did and didn't do. I want a unit which I control to wake me up. I don't want to rely on setting it through an app or on a 3rd party to wake me up. Any of those could go out of business and then i'm left with a brick. I'm rating this 4 stars because it is a decent unit and others may love it. I just feel it's missing key features that something at this price point should really have. Needless to say, it's all packaged up and being returned today. Sorry iHome, you won me over and then failed me, all within a few hours.

The whole purpose of having this unit is to connect to Alexa via the App. If you want a regular radio alarm clock this is definitely not the unit for you. Thank you for the review. We appreciate Customer input and hope you find an iHome unit that fits your needs.

I'm very satisfied with my purchase of the iHome AVS16. Easy set up and I particularly like how well it adapts to Alexa. I also like the night light at the base. Music sounds great coming from it. My only gripe is I wish it had a battery back up. Still, I'm glad I purchased this.

Overall, it was an easy set up. I would give it 5 stars if could find out how (or if it had that capability - could not find it in the instructors) of dimming the lights (not the coloured lights at the bottom but on the clock face and at top). Way too bright. Other than that, it is a very nice set up and looking forward to playing around with it and seeing what its capabilities are - especially with Alexa.

Great Sounding Easy to Read Display Not Intuitive

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this iHome AVS16 and also bought the smaller (5" speaker) of the two Insignia Google Assistant equipped desktop speakers available, at the same time to compare the operating systems and also to see if I had a preference for either platform. As far as ease of set-up goes, the Insignia blows away the iHome. It's not intuitive at all and it really took a lot of time to set it all up and connect to my various music services, while the Google device essentially tells you what its doing for you every step of the way and prompts you with a logical and intelligent set-up process. I will qualify what I just wrote with my technical qualifications and professional experience with complex high stakes, high profile live event productions requiring networking and interfacing of cross platforms of computers and their respective OS's along with RF entertainment and communication systems, that spans a 40 year career. The iHome remains sonically superior but it's not a fair shootout as it would be best to compare the larger of the two Insignia's to the iHome. When the iHome is performing as it is designed to - it is flawless and delivers impeccable audio quality for a device as compact as it is. The display is large and bright, and the Alexa voice is crystal clear having been properly and ideally equalized for the speakers within the device. However - it is unstable, and loses the audible and visible display connection to whatever music service I direct it to. I have updated the firmware - which was a tedious process that required multiple attempts before finally getting a successful update installed. No matter - as I have since needed to re-boot the device to get it to reset to proper operation multiple times. This is indicative of OS issues and likely of some "bug" fixes that still may be needed, In fact while typing this review the iHome went off line again and randomly paused the music channel it was connected to. It seems to lose sync with the app. It is also limited to 2.4 gHz as its WiFi transceiver frequency whereas the Insignia is dual band - 2.4 and 5 gig . The WiFi and Ethernet backbone in my home is rock solid and very robust so it's nothing to do with any issues relating from poor WiFi connectivity. I am still exploring the capabilities of both of the Assistant Interfaces and don't have a preference yet. The iHome Alexa App is pretty awkward and could use some cleaning up. It is not at all intuitive or "finger friendly". However, feature-wise, ease of operation, access to front panel controls and having a large, easy to read display gives the iHome the edge here. I have faith that company will work out the bugs and release a firmware update that will fix all of it as well. I would have no problem recommending this unit to anyone looking for a high quality, great sounding smart home speaker system.

Bought on impulse to replace alarm clock. I like very much and is nice to turn on lights and such without leaving bed. Alarm starts out with lights and audio level low and increases as it continues. it is very loud and I don't see anyone sleeping through that. She is Alexa and doe's all she does. Only thing that I personally don't care for, is that I play music low when going to sleep (level #2). Every time music stops or is inactive, level volume rests usually to setting #5. sometimes much louder. Alexa Alarm clock is located in bedroom but she hears me talking to the echo Alexa kitchen and living room. No matter where in house I am---They ALL hear me and respond. Every time you lose internet connection or change internet password, you must re-set up everything.

The smart alarm clock is a great product, just a pain to set up. We did not find much help from the instructions included and most everything we have figured out have come via trial and error. There is still more we would like this alarm to do, just haven't figured out how to do some things. It wakes up with pre-alarm light and ten minutes later the alarm goes off, would like to figure how to shut the light off or not use. Alexa works well, no issues. Just be aware, setting this alarm may be challenging.

I have now had 2 of these and they both do not work properly. The Alexa on first one was wacky. Often it would not open on the Alexa command. When it did open, I would ask the time, and nothing. Then 5-10 minutes later it would randomly say the time without a question. I have an Echo Dot which works first time everytime. The 2nd one's clock is 1 hour early. No way to change it. Called support and the girl was clueless. The Alexa is also not working right. Same issue. Something is very wrong with this model. Nice idea, but it doesnt work. What's the chance 2 different ones don't work? Piece of junk for $150. Tomorrow the 2nd one is going back. Let me know when the serious design/production flaws are resolved.

So far I like this unit, it is a little complicated to set up for a alarm clock but definitely doable. I’m far from tech savvy and I had very little trouble setting it up. Alexa works well the display is very easy to see and the light is a nice feature. If you purchase this unit I don’t believe you will be disappointed.

Radio sounds great love the LED lights at the bottom and it sounds great for the size, base is good and sounds are loud. Pros: Great bass hi volume Alexei compatible show current weather has 12/24 time support USB input in back Cons: does not make phone calls with Alexia the time can be a bit difficult to read not because of brightness or size but the font. It can be hard to discern what the numbers actually are depending on the time

This thing is a very reliable alarm clock. I needed it just so I could have loud music wake me up. I have a hard time waking up sometimes so I needed something LOUD! And this thing certainly does that. Plus I have it set to the Radiohead radio station on iHeartRadio (one of my fav bands) so I get to wake up to a good song everyday. One thing I wish was a different was that I wish you could manage your alarms some other way than just speaking to Alexa. I have a speech impediment (stutter) so sometimes it can be quite difficult for me to manage my alarms by speaking to Alexa. It’d be nice to be able to manage alarms from the phone app. Other than that, it’s a good product.

There aren't that many instructions, other than the 'quick start guide'. Alexa won't play songs from my iTunes library. I have to use the app to listen to my 'local music'. And when I do use the app I can't listen to Apple Music, only what's on my phone. I tried using my own iHeart Radio account, and when I tried to login, it wouldn't let me. I kept getting the message "username exists', which is my email. So I had to create a new account just to listen to iHeart Radio. If I am using bluetooth, and I decide to prompt Alexa, the bluetooth signal disconnects the device you were using. These are issues that had I known, I would not have purchased. Again there aren't really any instructions on what I can and can't play/use/listen too because there's just a quick guide setup. Not worth the $149.99

Hi Greg, thank you for your thoughts. You bring up a couple of concerns so we will address each individually.

The iHome AVS app contains step by step tutorials. There is also a self-help section on the website under the Support Tab. Our Support Team would be happy to walk you through the process. Please contact us by phone at 1-800-288-2792 (Monday - Friday from 8am - 4pm EST).

You are correct, you cannot use Alexa to control your iTunes library. Alexa can be used to control many streaming music sources (such as Pandora and iHeartRadio). At this time Alexa does not support Apple Music. That being said, your local music (music saved on your device) can be streamed directly to the device over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Regarding iHeartRadio, we are not sure the error you are experiencing. It sounds like you are trying to login on signup page and not via the login. We suggest revisiting the iHeartRadio login and trying again. Customer support is happy to walk you through the steps to ensure you have a positive experience.

We are sorry you are having issues and would appreciate the opportunity to remedy the issue. Please reach out to our support team when you have a moment. iHome

The combination of alarm clock,Alexa and decent speakers for music is great. The only reason I gave 4 star rating was because Alexa in the current firmware cannot do everything that an echo dot can do. But it does most things that Alexa can do and I’m very happy with my purchase
