Hi Thanos, It's difficult to determine the origin of the problem without evaluating the plug itself. We need to discuss if you have a dual band WiFi router (24 GHz must be split from 5.0 GHZ), make and model of your phone to verify compatible software and distance the plug is from your WiFi router.. I recommend you contact us at 800-288-2792. Monday - Friday. We would love the opportunity to help!

works with Android IF set up on Apple device

First off 2.4 networks ONLY. Android setup will make you lose your mind . IF setup on Apple OS equipment they play nice with your Android device . TRUST ME set them up on/with Apple OS.When setup with Android they seem to leave their network OPEN/HACKABLE. Ive had a pair for about a year now and they are pretty nice and Ive really had none of the connectivity issues that others have dealt with . Open the app ...hit the correct plug and boom off they go .
CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH ...
*2.4 network
*set up on Apple device

Finally works...

Once the product is set up, it works without any problems (at least so far). Setting it up, however, now that's another story...
The included instructions mention to plug the device in, download the iHome Control app, and set up the plug by pressing "Add device" in the devices tab. Following these instructions (provided by the manufacturer), I simply could not get my plug to connect- it would give me an "Accessory pairing failed (18)" error each time. After digging around online, someone mentioned a step that was not noted anywhere in the documentation: Go into your WiFi settings on your device, and the iHome Smart Plug should appear as a new device on the bottom of the list. I should mention, this is using an iPhone/iOS device- not sure if it's the same process for Andriod. Once the plug is selected from the WiFi list, the setup process is seamless- you don't even have to open the iHome Control App...
I'm typically not one for writing reviews, but I've spent over an hour trying to figure out how to get this thing up and running, whereas my WeMo setup (despite not being HomeKit-enabled), took about 5 minutes. Hopefully this will help anyone experiencing the same error message (and thank you to the person who originally posted this fix)! Docking one star for the incorrect/incomplete instructions and the tedious setup.

As far as smart plugs go, this one was fairly easy to set up and works fairly reliably, but as with any smart plug I've used, there are occasional lags or moments of inexplicable unresponsiveness. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

Good starter for a smart home

I originally have an ISP5 which is the older version of this smart plug. So I decided to get more. Set up is easy especially when you already have the iHome app up and running. The apple home kit automatically detects the devices and now Siri can control all the lights connnected into every iHome smart plug in the house. iHome also releases firmware updates faster than TP Link. Base on my experience apple home kit works better than the amazon echo dot for smart for a smart home control.

"Great" Plug -- "ok" AP -- "Mixed" Setup
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Plug is based on WFI - which means is plays nice with my other WIFI devices - unlike Zigbee and BT which booth use the same spectrum can in theory cause degradation of speed
The AP is "ok" but who care most will use Home from Apple anyway
The setup works fine on an IPhone -- It would not work at all with my Android based Honor (Huawei) 8 phone -- but work with my Huawei tablet - one was running Nougat the other marshmallow -- so who knows
But Net-Net -- it's a device that works great at a very good price
I now have 8 of them

Not good for long distances

If you plan on controlling devices at a remote location such as a second home this is not a good choice. My second home is 800 miles away. I bought two of these devices to control a dehumidifier and heater. They continuously require updates and they disconnect from the Internet. If you are going to use this for a home that you will be close to so that you can do updates and reconnect to the Internet then this is a good device to have. The problem is is you have to be at the device to do the update so you can unplug it for 20 seconds and then plug it back in and re-connected to the Internet. Unfortunately, I would think the purpose of this plug would be so that you could use it long distance at remote locations without the problems that I have. Their tech-support is unable to solve the problem.

We apologize for your particular situation. The SmartPlugs can be updated from a remote location now as long as you are connected to the iHome Cloud (if your firmware is up to date on the individual plugs and the iHome Control App). If you have outdated firmware and an Apple TV, you can remotely update as well. For additional information, please contact our Support Team at 1-800-288-2792. Mon - Fri from 8am - 4pm EST.

Purchased the iSP6X plug mid January 2018. A week later they had a cloud issue which caused the plug to stop working. Had to get a friend to reboot the plug while I am away. Worked for a few more days, now not working again. iHome customer service told me this is an issue for many of their customers. Most of the phone calls they have received lately are from customers with the same issue as me. They said my softwear is up to date however their developers are working on a new update that will be available in a few days. Now the catch is you need to be home to use the new softwear update. I bought this plug to turn a light on and off while I am away,
replacing a reliable timer that never failed. The plug will be useless until I get home. There are many other manufacturers of wifi plugs. I will purchase one of them. The iSP6X will be going in the garbage.

We understand your frustration, as you know, our Cloud Service maintenance team was performing a routine service last weekend on the database when an unexpected issue occurred. Your iSP6 plug is designed to auto-reconnect to the network after a temporary outage. We are creating several policies to ensure the greatest possible experience, including: Reliable Device Re-connection for the plugs that did not recover gracefully after an outage, a live cloud status dashboard and taking immediate action to notify Customers via Twitter, Facebook and the iHome Control App. We hope you give our products another chance. We appreciate the feedback.

Unable to set up with Android

I should have done more homework on this one. It seems that the only way to set it up is with an iphone or ipad. Using the Android app failed everytime. I am going to try on ipad, hopefully the app works on my older ipad. Really sad that a company can't provide simple support for android, all others do. No more iHome for me. If this cannot be set up, its going back.

Good luck getting the app to set up the outlet to work if your an android user. Would not work with a KitKat tablet or my Marshmallow phone, but was able to set it up with my work Iphone, and then it would show in the app on my phone. I have it linked to my Wink Hub 2 and have had no problems in the 1 week of use. Based on this experience I will not be outfitting my house with these, too much hassle to set up.
