Do not use for a second home

I bought two of these to use at a cabin 800 miles from where I live. I use one to control a heater and another to control security cameras at this home. The device does not stay connected. You must be there to unplug the device for three seconds and plug it back in and do updates if you have a malfunction. If you don’t do the updates the device doesn’t work and you cannot control It. I was so excited when I bought these thinking this will be nice but it is unreliable. I contacted the company and they are said they are trying to fix the issues. If you are going to use these in a home that you live at and you’re able to reset and update the device when it goes offline it’s fine. If you are going to use these in a home that you live at and you’re able to reset and update the device it’s fine. Do not buy for a home hundreds of miles away. I wish I could get my money back. The company did not offer to give me a refund. I am fairly good at tech stuff. Again, the company said they are trying to fix the issues so I know it is not me.

We are sorry to hear about your experience thus far. On 2/27/2018 we made significant changes to our Cloud. As long as your firmware is updated on the individual SmartPlugs, future firmware releases will be automatically sent to the SmartPlug so there is no need to power cycle. iHome

    They are very inconsistent!

I have 4 of these and only one works consistently. The rest go offline for no reason and aren't responsive when you need them. Setup is easy if you're a computer engineer. Get the Lutron Caseta line of plugs and dimmers. They are a much better product!!

The Smartplugs are more dependent on your router than some of your other smart devices that use a hub. It would be a good idea to give a separate SSID to the G-band (2.4Ghz) in your network. That should help keep them connected. iHome

Unreliable. These consistently loose connection with my WiFi network. None of my other smart home products have an issue. I have to reset the plugs at least 2 times a week

    Absolutely worthless

Got 1, worked great for about 6 months, so I bought another one. Worked for about 3 months or so and became intermitten. I push the button, flashes green for like 2 seconds than red. Contacted Apple, it's under warranty, had to prove it and they said to ship it in, at my cost, with tracking and insured. ???So basically it would cost to ship it, what I paid for it. Now the one I got first, it won't connect to my internet at all anymore. I've tried with my itouch and my android repeatedly for hours and nothing. Just gives me error messages. So now I got 2 expensive plugs that just take up space and do nothing. Don't waste your money.

Bad Product - Will Work for a Short Time

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have 17 of these units that were purchased primarily for turning lights and trees on at Christmas. Of the 17, 12 had to be replaced because they could not do a firmware upgrade, and now 9 of the new ones, which used to connect to my wireless network no longer connect. I've had to reset them and they still will not connect. Tech support could only tell me to restart my router and wireless access point to see if that would fix the problem, it did not. Tech support is slow to respond to problem reports submitted through their website. When I called today to find out what my status is, I had to wait over 46 minutes just to talk to someone (could they maybe hire more than a couple people, if they have even two... the guy I ended up talking to was the same one I've talked to on two previous occasions... what are the odds that I would get the same person 3 times out of 3?). I do not recommend these units, there are others out there, and, although I'm stuck with these, I have to believe that some others must be better.

I bought the smart plug a month back. It stopped working with google home mini 2 days back. I have unlinked, linked the device to google home and also rebooted the mini. The issue seems to be only with google home products as of now as apple homekit and the ihome apps work. I am very disappointed as this was not a cheap purchase.

These are the worst of ther smart home devices I have, and am glad I only bought 2. They lose connection all of ther time, and must be power-cycled in order to reconnect. Don't buy these until iHome can get their connectivity issue resolved.

This device has to be unplugged and re-plugged in at least once a week in order for it to reconnect to the wifi. We love technology, high speed internet, and our entire home is full of smart gadget. However, I have two of these and each week I have a problem with it connecting to the app and have to re-plugg them in to use them. none of our other smart devices have this problem, More importantly, I feel like the reviews on here were very misleading about the reliability of this brand's device.

Hi Kory, it is unfortunate you are having trouble. Please uninstall the iHome Control App. Restart your phone and make sure it connects to your 2.4 GHz network. Then update the firmware on each individual plug. Outdated firmware will cause connection issues. If your problem persists, please contact our Support Team at 1-800-288-2792. I bought it because it connects with the home app on iPhone. It does, but I have to be resetting it every time because it loses connection. The bad thing is.... I have it connected in a place that I cannot easily reset it everyday. So that's the issue with this.

Since you are constantly losing connection, You may have some type of IP address conflict with the DHCP in the devices. If you go into the router setting and look for "DHCP lease time" some router have the default as 1 week. Change the “DHCP lease time” to forever or disable depending on your router.
To troubleshoot with our Support Team please give us a call when you are with the plug at 1-800-288-2792 Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm EST iHome

We are sorry that you are encountering difficulties connecting your plug. We can help!

You may have an older firmware that cannot be currently updated through an Android device. To update the firmware, connect the plug(s) with an Apple iOS device (iPhone or iPad). After updating the firmware, reset your plug and connect to your Android device.

You will be able to update your firmware using your Android device going forward. The link below highlights the process step by step. If it doesn't appear as an active link, you may copy and paste the link to your browser.

iHome smart plugs must be unplugged and plugged back into the wall socket weekly because they disconnect from your network that often. Save yourself a headache and buy Wemo switches and plugs. Wemo works with Siri, Google, and Alexa.

Just got off the phone with ihome as of today this product DOES NOT work with Alexa I was told there is a firmware issue and they are working on the problem but don't know when it will be resolved. So if your looking for something to work with Alexa you need to buy a product from a different company.

Check the DHCP lease time on your router's settings. Some routers are set to 1 week by default. Change it to forever (Or the longest time it gives you) and they shouldn't disconnect anymore. iHome
