Movie has a similar look and feel to The Secret Life of Pets 1 and The Secret Life of Pets 2 because all share the same director/co-director Yarrow Cheney. It's a keeper for the collection and has enough entertainment value that kids will want to re-watch it over and over. It's worthwhile to have this movie along with the non-animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) with Jim Carey.

Bought the movie on the release date and was surprised how well this re-telling of the classic holiday favorite was (including up-to-date music soundtrack, storyline and added characters from the town). I highly recommend the Grinch (2018). Fun for all ages!!!

Great like the original movie. Always show kids the original first of course but this one is fun too.

I was really on the fence with this one. I didn't think we needed another Grinch movie till I saw this one. Great remake and Benedict Cumberbatch didn't try to out do any other Grinch version he just made it his own.

Great movie in 4K, looked awesome on my 109” 4K Projector! My daughter loves the movie, wants to watch it nearly every day. I like it a lot more than the original, soundtrack is good!

Terrestrial 3 months ago Firstly, because I am a fan of Illumination flicks (The Secret Life of Pets, 2016), I was really pleased to see that there was a focus on Max’s character. Illumination has a talent for creating and developing non-human characters and they proved themselves further with this animated feature by making Max and his relationship with Mr. Grinch a very individual part of the story. With that said, The Grinch (2000) and this film have very little in common. Although Jim Carrey’s character was much more vile, bitter, and more “Grinch-like”, that film as a whole was dancing dangerously with a PG-13 rating and could have used more toning down. The 2018 version had the opposite issue—it was too neat, too polite, and didn’t capture the sour discontentment of Mr. Grinch that we all know and love. The story writers were likely aiming to make Benedict Cumberbatch’s character more likable and kid-friendly than Jim Carrey’s so that the viewers feel for his plight. We witnessed more internal struggles and how his pain and loneliness manifested as obsessive routines to avoid contact with The Whos. If Illumination pushed the story a little further, it would have pleased more adults who grew up with the O.G. Grinch. For kiddos that lack any sense of nostalgia with regards to either previous versions, this film should have no problem making them giggle at some new and charming characters, and stare in awe at the wonderful animation.

I have this in my core uhd blu ray collection. The visuals rival the popular story, and the Dolby vision on my tv makes the colors pop. The red, white, and of course, the iconic and ever popular greens are delicious to take in. The detail in everything from the alarm clock by the grinch’s bed to the fine detail in facial features and hair layers is not missed either. Watching The Whoville people interact is also spectacular whether in daylight scenes or night and the movement is very realistic. This is absolutely a must have for year round viewing and the Christmas season only makes it better!

Let's get this out of the way. It's not Jim Carrey, it's not Boris Karloff, but it really is such a feel-good movie, that keeps an open mind entertained. Constantly going back and comparing it to the previous films ended up materializing this movie's undeserved amount of negative ratings. Sure, The Grinch is more softer than previous incarnations, but it didn't get to the point where it destroyed the source material's point. He's still an isolated loner who loathes the holidays, and this version did enough to stand on it's own. Benedict Cumberbatch sure did surprise me with his vocal work for The Grinch, and the animation; impressive. I absolutely love the colors, the designs, the setting, all of it. This movie really doesn't deserve the hate it gets. It's different, yes. It's a remake, yes. Was it necessary? Maybe not. Is it the worst film? Not at all. It's become one of Illumination's better films, even though the ratings show a complete 50:50 of people liking/disliking it. It was a film when after watching it, made me feel warm and I absolutely adored it.

We loved this movie. My 13 year old had hated the original Grinch forever. She thought the original was creepy. She loved this version. Said it is her new favorite Christmas movie. She loved how cute the characters look. She loved the storyline. She loved the jokes. I love the original and I love this one. It had enough touches from the old to hit the nostalgic mark while still embracing the fun and witty nature of Illumination. Never would have expected anyone to make a movie about the Grinch that my ten old would like let alone love. Well done, Illumination, well done!!

Me and my kids love this Grinch movie! It’s so cute and funny for kids and adults. I don’t buy many movies but this one was a must.

When the Jim Carrey version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” came out, I was glad to see Mrs. Dr. Seus involved with the remake of my favorite Christmas show or movie ever. I was even more wary of this new Grinch movie. We saw it at the theater when it first came out near us. I was extremely surprised and elated that it was so good. They even made the Grinch a little nicer, maybe, and I still loved the movie. We bought the Blu-ray as soon as it was available, and couldn’t wait to see it again, that weekend. If you are on the fence, jump off and run to Best Buy to get your copy.

SUCH a sweet storyline!! We loved that it gave more of a back story on the Grinch and why he is the way that he is. Also loved the sweeter/kinder relationship between him and Max. The added storyline of Cindy Lou Who and her relationship with her Mom and brothers is SO heartwarming! Yes, the plot may not be exactly aligned with the Dr Seuss version, but we LOVED it non the less! The humor is great, the family values on point, and the developed background/characters is well done. It leaves you feeling in the true Christmas mood for sure;)
