Beautiful footage and great reference for HDR

I recently bought an Xbox One S and wanted to try an Ultra HD on my Samsung UHD TV. I specifically wanted something to test the HDR. After reading reviews of many UHD titles, this film was mastered from 4K footage, not a 2K intermediate, so the images are sharper. And while I can see a difference between the 4K detail compared to 1080p, it's not something that really impresses me. But the HDR feature is great! My TV had a firmware update to enable HDR but it's not a high-end set that has a full range of contrast and color for true HDR, BUT there's still a significant difference watching HDR compared to SDR (which is also handily included on this disc). The colors just POP. As a bonus, the 3D BD is also fun as my 4 yr old son had fun reaching out to "catch" the butterflies. Having purchased this for $15 on sale it's well worth it if you have the right TV.

A completely spellbinding documentary...from its visuals alone...but it's storytelling as well. The 3D is mindblowing. Giving you direct access to the life of a butterfly. You can touch it. Feel it. And have these mysterious little creatures fly right in to your living room. The overall love story of two people dedicated to finding and understanding these butterflies is beautiful, and even inspiring. The final scene alone tugs at the heart strings in a way not even the best drama can.

This intertwines a nature documentary about Monarch Butterfly migration (which is quite amazing) with the story of the people who discovered the most dramatic aspects of it. It's a clever combination, and put together well. While some might be less interested in the discovery story, to me it's a great illustration of scientific passion and process, and I'm very glad it's included. The nature photography is a bit limited in scope by the subject, but there's very good footage of all the Monarch lifecycle and migration stages. As far as the 4K is concerned, seeing it after Planet Earth II I feel the detail in the shots (especially the wider shots) isn't quite at the same jaw-dropping level, but it certainly looks very good nonetheless.

My wife and mother-in-law have always had a fascination with butterflies, so why not get this movie, both in 4K and 3D versions. After watching the butterflies come to life in 4K vibrancy, we can't wait to compare with the 3D version. The extras explained how the movie was made, the cameras and equipment used, and what it was like using butterflies as actors. Great story that follows the migration of the Monarch Butterfly.

As you watch the incredible journey of these beautiful butterflies, you will surely be moved by their courage and strength and perseverance against so many odds. I removed one star because the musical audio (supposedly background music) was too loud, making it difficult to hear the voice of the story teller. Even so, I would recommend the 4K video for its beauty alone as you should be able to hear enough audio to keep up with the story.

I wasn't expecting too much, but was pleasantly surprised. This documentary really kept my interest, and I learned a lot of things about the Monarch butterffly that I had no idea about. The visuals are beautiful, whether you watch the 4K version or the 3D version. I think the 3D version gets the edge though; the butterflies flitting in and out of the screen and the gorgeous scenery really make the 3D presentation shine.

Don't know how you"d feel watching a bunch of butterflies, but I took a "Wait and See" attitude. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. With the 3D version it seemed like the butterflies were right in front of you. If you've had a rough day, watch this DVD. It may have a calming effect on you.

I primarily purchased this Imax documentary for the 3D blu-ray. However, what caught my attention was that this documentary is presented in 4K UHD, 3D Blu-ray and 2D Blu-ray. A digital copy is also provided. All these formats for a really low price (under $20) so I decided to add to my library even though I didn't see the documentary at the theaters. I'll say the images are quite beautiful with pretty 3D effects with lots of depth. However, I sure wish I didn't find the documentary so dull! I found another 4K/ 3D Blu-ray/ 2D Blu-ray combo set at Best Buy for the same low price, Journey To Space, which was much more interesting. The 3D isn't quite as immersive as Flight Of The Butterflies, but I could watch the documentary without falling asleep.

Originally shown in I-Max theaters, I grabbed this for a change. Lots of Disney and thought this would be a nice change as well as educational. This movie is narrated, got the multi disc set with the 4K option, Love the picture on my 4K big screen,.

Since I wanted to see how impressive the picture would be on my new 4K Ultra HD TV, I purchased this disc. I was not disappointed. The colors and clarity were amazing. The story was interesting and I look forward to seeing it in the 3D format.

This is a great demonstration disc to showcase 4k HDR. The colors, the clarity and the Atmos soundtrack are first -rate. It may not hold up to multiple repeat viewings, and it is after all, a documentary, but for me, it was well worth a purchase.

While viewing the 3D Disk it seemed as if the butterflies were flying about you. The 4k disk has rich colors as well as good HDR. I also watched this Disc in 1080P and it did not do it justice as the 4k version did.
