Saw this advertised for $160 and couldn't pass it up. I'm giving it five stars because I purchased it for our bedroom for the price, but the picture quality is way better than I expected. Setup is very simple and you can pick different video settings or customize your own. I recommend a setting in between the "energy saving" and "movie" settings. You can also reword the input settings to read what your using them for. ex: Cable, DVD, Games, etc.

Bought this tv in February 2016 for our summer cottage. Tried the tv when we received it and it worked fine! We then put it away until May 2106, when we opened our cottage. The tv worked for 2 weekends and then died. It turns on and off by itself. We tried all the suggestions from the forum and it still won't work. Taking it back to Home Depo. I hope they make it right or else I really was made a fool of! Live and learn

Purchased this for our daughter. Started having issues at 14 months, just 2 months out of warranty. There are many people having the same issues with these just out of warranty. It will power off and restart itself every few minutes. It is unusable. We have other brands of TVs that are 6-8 years old and are used every day and have no issues. Will never buy this brand again.

The initial quality of the TV is what one would expect for a lower end TV. Initial problems at 13 months then failure at 15 months old. Of course this falls out of Insignia's warranty period and they did not offer any kind of pro-rated solution or anything other than...."we are sorry". Terrible service from a terrible product. You get what you pay for.

Needed a TV for my bedroom that was larger than my 32". This was just the right size and so was the price. Good picture quality, user friendly, easy set-up, and the sound is better than on the smaller LG that I had. This is an important feature since I am hearing impaired. For a bedroom, this was an excellent choice. If you are looking for a good TV but don't want to spend a small fortune, I would highly recommend this Insignia.

First let me say that I was planning on buy a SAMSUNG SMART TV but for the price of that Samsung I purchased TWO of these Insignia's 40" . One for the living room and the other for the bedroom! I got it for the 159.99 "WHAT A SALE" I NO LONGER HAVE TO STAND OUTSIDE FOR BLACK FRIDAY!!!! Now for the best part, the TV's colors are RICH, we have Xfinity HD in both rooms and the pictures are stunning! Please don't let the name discredit it's performance. It's a great tv at a phenomenal budget price. We also have an Xbox One in the living room and again the colors are stunning, RICH blacks and all colors vibrant. It really is a great tv, HDMI is flawless, the sound is loud!! Most Samsung Tv's you have to raise the volume to like 60-70 to get it loud enough but this tv? at 15 it's LOUD!!!!!!!! im not kidding, I can't say enough about this tv. It's Best Buy's brand and they did very well so KUDOS to them.

This television is more than I thought. Going into Best Buy thinking it was a great deal but also thinking you get what you pay for. I bought two anyway. Brought them home and setup one in my sons room. Easy set up, just screwd in the mount and plugged in tv. All the channels were programmed. Couldn't ask for any easier. Great Deal!

This was a great clearance deal, now i see why. this TV was purchased for a spare room, and gets very minimal use. i bought it less than 2 years ago and i have probably used it around 75-100 times. it worked fine 3 weeks ago, i went to turn it on this morning and the screen is out.

I’ve had this TV for a little less than 2 years. Every 3-4 minutes the TV cuts off and then turns itself back on. It appears (from Insignia Blog) that this has been an ongoing problem with Insignia TVs for quite a few years now. There should be a recall for these TVs.

I purchased this a little after Black Friday. I had originally bought a Westinghouse TV from Target for Black Friday but noticed a missing feature from it that this TV had. It was missing compatibility with HDMI CEC which my new Apple TV 4th gen can use to turn the TV on without me having to press anything on the TV remote. I was a little disappointed that this was missing on the Westinghouse. I had just assumed that HDMI CEC is a standard in all TV's, but, apparently it isn't. Also, this TV had many more reviews and really good ones as well. Just make sure that if you want to use a device that has CEC capability that you go into the menu on this tv and there is something called inlink that is under one of the menus on the menu screen after you scroll down further. I got this TV open box for a lower price and so far am very satisfied with it! Great picture and it works well. Also, the sound on the Westinghouse was TERRIBLE. It didn't make a major difference since I got a sound bar to go with it, but I can report that this TV has much better audio standalone than the Westinghouse. It's good enough without the soundbar but I'm still keeping the soundbar because I like the sound improvement. My last TV was an insignia and I had it for 6 years at least and it was and still is a great TV! It still works perfectly fine. I just decided that I was finally ready to get a much bigger screen that had 1080p and HDMI-CEC to go along with my new Apple TV. Overall I have had a really great experience with Insignia products and this TV as well! I also got a insignia sound bar which works great as well. Originally purchased a Vizio at target but read some reviews saying it broke and it was having issues vibrating loudly and producing bad sounds a few times. After getting the insignia for the same price ($50) I could definitely tell a big improvement on the insignia comparing them back to back. Very satisfied with this TV and other insignia products. Great brand!

I purchased this TV for my little nephews, niece, cousins and eventually my daughter to play video games in the loft while the adults have there fun in the man cave! TV is great, its easy to set up and big enough to see while playing the games...I'm sure at some point they will watch a movie or so on it and I dont see it being an issue! I first purchased the 32" for $149 and after 3-4 days the 40" was on sale for $159...so its a no brainer what I did!

I will first say i ordered this for a family member who wanted a larger tv. I was able to get one on sale. This TV is really great, it took us a moment to get it setup and the color corrected. Once dialed in the tv looks great and was perfect for playing video games and watching tv. If i would have known how great this set was I might of picked up a second one for my bedroom. The only real issue I have is the volume control, level 2 and 3 are low then 5,6 and 7 get really loud. It doesn't have a happy medium, but the speakers sound pretty good for a flat screen. The only other downside I found is it only having 2 HDMI inputs, when 3-4 should be standard for larger screens. At the end of the day this set is great for someone looking for a TV to play video games on or just watch movies with, we are happy with the set overall. I would have given 5 stars but the volume settings and only having 2 HDMI's knocked it down one star.

Got this for the bedroom as my wife watches a lot of TV in there and needed something bigger than the 32'' we had -- I'm normally skeptical of cheaper/store brand electronics but this is a great get for the price, $250 on sale. The picture is very clear on DirecTV, the sound is more than adequate for our relatively large bedroom without a soundbar or surround sound, and took me 5 minutes from plugging it in to getting everything setup properly. It's not a Smart TV so I got the Amazon Firestick to go with and it works great. Only two HDMI ports however -- if you want to connect a lot of peripherals or devices to it, it may not be the best option. It does have 1 or 2 component inputs though, I can't remember which number offhand.
Bottom line, if you're looking for a cheap, basic, no-frills TV in the 37-42'' range, this can't be beat for the price.

I got this tv at a total price of $170 (around black Friday deal). I had my reservations because to this point I've only purchased brand name tvs (lg and vizio# and I've always been under the impression you get what you pay for. Well let me tell you this tv has surprised the heck out of me. On just a level 4 the speakers can clearly fill a normal sized bedroom and I can hear with more distinction than my Vizio ever produced in that room. It is super slim, WAY slimmer than my other flat screen tv purchases. The only thing I fault this tv on are things it doesn't offer but could benefit from, like TRUmotion technology and smart tv options. I've noticed in the couple of days of use #I have a smart Blu-ray player hooked up to it for streaming purposes# that if there isn't a signal going to it that the tv will turn itself off and there isn't a menu option to change that. Also those that like matte finish screens might not be impressed with this tv. While there is a matte to it I would say it could be a lot more matted. I really hope this tv can last longer than my Vizio #only 3-4yrs before an EEProm chip malfunction) did because I am really happy with my purchase and highly recommend this tv.

Tv has great picture and reasonably good sound. DOES include usb hook up for pictures [wasn't listed in online specs when I checked]. Allows you to relabel inputs, which is a nice touch. Image compares favorably to my major brand tv in the living room. For the price this tv is a really good value. Never thought I would buy an Insignia before this purchase, but glad I did... it underpromised and over delivered

I own a 50" and a 27" Insignia TV so I didn't hesitate to buy another as the others are great performers. The picture is crisp and sharp and the sound is great. I set up my new TV last night and wasn't disappointed.
I suppose if I was into the horror of Black Friday deals I could have had this at a much lower cost but the current price is more than reasonable for the value you receive. I paid $250usd.

This is a great HDTV for the price. We didn't want a Smart TV or other bells and whistles we didn't need. Large enough for most rooms in the house. So far we're very pleased with it.
