A decent budget TV That's Still Going Strong

Bought this TV in September of 2015. It was about $150 because it was on sale at the time. It was great for me at the time. It fit in my dorm room without an issue and had good sound and picture quality. The TV is still going strong as of the writing of this review. It's a good cheap 1080p tv if your playing games on a Nintendo switch or watching 1080p content. I dislike the fact there are only 2 HDMI ports on the TV seeing that I have multiple devices that need that input. The TV is unbelievably light and is mostly made of plastic. This TV is not bright at all, to use this TV I had to buy black out curtains for my room. 200 nits is not nearly bright enough to put it in a room that gets any kind of sun and I find that the local contrast also lacks a bit (2500:1). In addition if you wan to stream anything on this TV you need either a streaming stick or game console because this is NOT a smart tv. Overall I'd highly recommend a TV like this for a basement or for someone who wants to give their kid a TV before going off to college. It's a budget friendly option and as long as you're not planning on playing or streaming 4k content it's a good buy. Mine has stood the test of time and has been moved to and from apartments for the past 6 years and it still works and looks just as good as the day I picked it up. For those looking for better options there are cheap options from TCL, LG and Samsung That are 4k smart TVs in the 200-300 price range that have better brightness, local contrast and better picture quality that I'd recommend over this set.

TV has a very sharp picture, I have a Roku SE connected to it in a spare room and have no problems with it at all. We tested it with a PS4 and the picture and game play were very good. I am giving it a 5 because of the price on Black Friday, but even the normal price this is still a 4 star deal.

This is a great buy, wasn't expecting this quality for the price, but pleasantly surprised. Picture quality is good, and sound quality is pretty good as well. It also works great with google chromecast hd content casting via wifi.

Look, for the price of this TV and the size, it is a great TV. The picture clarity isnt superb but for an economy price you get one heck of a deal. I just wanted something inexpensive for my bedroom and this is great. I just use it for netflix and movies. Great Tv for more than fair price.

I brought this for 160$ on holiday sale and surprised with the quality of the product. It doesnt look like a cheap model, well built with high quality screen. Sound system is comparable to those available in market for 300$

This is a good tv. TV's have come a long way, this is a basic model but has a lot of good features. Different built in video settings; movie, sports, custom. The audio is good, it gets loud. Only down fall is the HDMI x 2. Everything now a days is on HDMI. More the better. For teh price payed I guess I can see why there was only 2. This is a great TV for the price. If you are looking for a decent inexpensive TV this is the one for you I was going to knock the review due to the fact that when I brought the TV home it did not come with the stand. BB MGMT was great and took one from a different box. They didn't make me bring the whole TV back in.

I am a practical person so paying for an expensive TV for our guest room was not going to happen. This TV wound up being better than the one in the masted bedroom that I pad almost twice as much for. Needless to say, our guests now have that television and I am enjoying the awesome picture quality.

Picked up this TV as a Pre-Black Friday Deal for $159. I was a little skeptical having never owned an Insignia product but read the reviews and took a chance. Very satisfied with the brand thus far. Picture required a little tweaking. Overall, a really good TV for a great price.

Best basic 40" TV I've tried for all general use

I build custom electronics, arcade machines, and various things that need displays. I've taken apart dozens of different models of TVs from nearly every manufacturer out there. This one is the best engineered television I've dealt with so far and it's the one I'll stick with until they discontinue it. I hope they keep it around a long time. First of all, there is very low latency on the picture so it's good for gaming and use with computers. The picture quality is among the best I've tried, if not exactly the very best. It has a feature extremely useful to me, HDMI CEC communication with auto power on and shut down. When an appropriate device is plugged into HDMI and you have "Innilink" enabled in the TV settings, it'll detect that device and power the TV on and off when the device powers on and off. I can confirm this works well with standard PCs and with Raspberry Pi micro computers. Another extremely useful feature is the USB port. No, it doesn't play video or anything like that, but it has power! At least 1.5 amps, as far as I've tested it. It's one of only a couple TVs I've tried that can completely power a Raspberry Pi from USB alone. It's probably there for Chromecast and stuff like that, but it's very handy to me. Lastly, the physical build of this television is the nicest of any I've dealt with. They only use one kind of screw for all of the internal assembly! The VESA mount has all four mounting points securely anchored to the metal chassis, whereas most televisions, including Samsung have only two and the rest are just molded plastic. This thing is very sturdy. The power supply and main board are also well designed as far as I can tell. One negative thing to note: this TV doesn't like RGB color space and prefers YCbCr. If you don't know what that is, don't worry about it. If you hook it up to a PC or something using RGB, it disables most of the options in the TV and the picture looks less vibrant. This can be fixed on PCs, game consoles, and most media players by setting them to use YCbCr in their video options. Apparently this is a known bug, but I don't know when they expect to fix it. Thankfully it's easy to work around.

Hi, I was undecided on which tv I would get for my game, but then I saw the 40 inch Insignia. I did my research and decided to get it because it's manufacturer is LG, which is a great brand. The setup was super easy and I love it!

Have always been pro Samsung tv, if it wasn't a Samsung I wouldn't even look twice. Saw this tv in the ad for $249.99 and went to my local Best Buy to check it out. I was in awe of how the tv looked! Colors are spot on, motion doesn't blur at all, and the tv is PERFECT for what I use it for which is for my man cave in my garage! I was able to get this tv for the Black Friday price of 159.99 and I was so impressed I bought two more of them for friends and family! Buy this tv, you will not be disappointed at all!!!

I recently moved into a new apartment. My bedroom is a little small so this TV is perfect. The picture is pretty awesome! It has USB ports. I hooked up a Roku to make it a "smart" tv. I'm very happy with it.
