Customers praise the picture quality and value of this 40" LED HDTV, frequently citing its ease of setup and lightweight design. Positive feedback also highlights the vibrant colors and good size for smaller spaces. However, some customers mention the small size of the remote and that the volume could be louder.

This is my second Insignia flat screen TV purchase. The first one has been incredibly reliable and continues to be used on a daily basis. When you compare the features of Insignia TVs to brand name competitors, you will find the Insignia product often times have more HDMI connecting ports as well a better performance specifications. This 40" was on the daily deal for $179.99 and I didn't hesitate to pick it up at this amazing price. The picture is crystal clear and it was very easy to set up. The menu is very easy to navigate. The only downside is the feet they now provide on all flat screens no matter what brand. I miss the center mounted pedestals that all TVs had up to this point. I'm not sure why this is a trend now. Maybe a safety thing? In any case don't hesitate to buy this great TV. It is a winner!

Arrived damaged. Best Buy quickly replaced with new one which also was damaged. When they deliver the next one, I shall take it to Best Buy and buy a different brand. Best Buy is great, but this tv brand is not.

I got this tv during the black friday deal. It was well worth it, because it is a great TV. I have bought an inexpensive TV similar to this one before, and wow that was a bad decision. This TV was a great decision, it has a great picture, clear sound (that is a HUGE plus since I have hard hearing), and it loads up so quickly. I love the features that you can customize the little things.. like the name of the inputs. It is very light and manageable. I have it in my bedroom where I replaced my 8 year old Philips flatscreen. I would really recommend this TV to anyone looking for a good one that is affordable. The regular price is still a great deal, for the price you are getting a great product.

I bought the 40" because of a great Black Friday price. I have several LG and Samsung TVs. Insignia's picture is nothing phenomenal for a primary TV but for a secondary it's great. The main reason why I chose this one was because of features (or lack there of). It's one of the last TVs to still include the basic RCA A/V connections. I have it in the garage to monitor my security cameras and prefer the RCA based systems so I don't have to keep replacing HDMI cables which are so flakey. I also bought google chromecast so I can watch repair videos in the garage on Youtube and cast them to the big screen. It works great; just switch the input to HDMI and it's ready to receive video from the phone (hopefully that Google HDMI dongle stays stable). Other reviews have mentioned to just buy a non-smart TV and add the app accessories separately. I really think this is the way to go because the tv fires up as soon as the button is pushed instead of having to wait and load all the smart features every time. A third reason why I really like the TV is because most TV remotes are too busy and confusing. This one is very simple and easy to use. This makes it great for elderly relatives who are always pushing some button accidentally and can't figure out what they did wrong.
I gave 4 stars because the screws for the wall mounting are so tiny compared to higher end TVs. The TV is extremely light so hopefully those screws will continue to hold. Also, there is only a power and input switching button on the back of the TV, so loose the remote and you're stuck. This seems to be a lousy trend a lot of TV manufactures are turning to. Reliability also seems to be a concern but there are plenty of videos online how to replace anything that goes out after warranty (all brands seem to be susceptible because of issues with the power board). I'm going to keep and eye out for the larger models on a deep discount and give them as gifts to relatives.

Lets start off with I am a savvy tech person and frugal about paying top dollar for tech. I checked the larger majority of the reviews here before buying. I was reluctant buying this product after reviewing the negative ones. But made the decision to buy anyway because this is going to be a gift for my Girlfriends mom but I took a chance on it and if anything goes wrong I will deal with it when the time comes. I went to BB to check it out in person, the picture was excellent but I couldn't hear the sound b/c the sales associate could find the remote to let me hear the sound quality. So I took the TV anyway and hope for the best. I got it to her Christmas Eve and hooked it up by dinner time. Let's start off with the picture, some who bought this and complained about the pic quality obviously don't know what there doing. One, to get the Hi Def pic if your using cable subscription you have to have a box that puts out Hi Def signal. Second, if your using OTA antenna you must position the indoor antenna in the right place so the TV can scan the channels correctly other wise you will get bad reception and this was my case for me. The indoor antenna was to far inside away for a window and fiddled with it and on top of that it was one of those original OTA antennas that first came out when NYC turned to digital signal so I will get her a new one ASAP. (Note: FYI, OTA signal is Hi Def uncompressed signal) The built in Roku is excellent setting up was pretty easy. After Roku setup was complete I played some of the free channels to check out the full quality of the on demand content from the Roku and it did not disappoint it was Hi Def quality with the exception that some Channels do not all have Hi Def picture like those that play older TV shows/ movies and the sound was better than I expected much better than my Coby 39" that I got cheap a few years ago and had to add a Surround system b/c it was so bad. Now some people for some reason think that Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc come free with Roku, HELLO no they are not free they are a subscription channels duh. You only get the APP for your Roku and you need to sign up for a paid subscription. It also has plenty of imputs to hook up your other devices BlueRay, Game console, external sound etc. The only thing I'm worried about is how long will it last before something goes wrong but like with all things you get what you paid for and high end devices are not immune this this.

Got this for the sale price of $200. What a steal of a deal. I am thoroughly satisfied with this TV. The picture clarity and color surpoasses what I had hoped for. I don't give a hoot nor a holler if it is a house brand for Best Buy. You may or may not get a sharper picture/better color rendition on a well known name brand TV but you will pay several hundred dollars more. For the price I paid coupled with the great picture I would highly recommend this TV to anyone. The sound is adequate-not bad and not mind blowing. I also purchased the Insignia sound bar and that brings a more movie theater like feel to the entire experience. Also purchased the 5yr extended warranty for the TV for a very reasonable price just to be on the safe side. I can't imagine that anyone would not be happy with this product not only for the price point but also for the way it performs. It is definitely a winner!

Cheapest TV I came across and I love the quality. Granted, I'm not a HD buff, I don't really need the high-end 4k stuff, I just wanted something bigger than my 24in TV I got over a decade ago. But I love it! Great for the cost. The remote is almost too small to be functional but it's still bigger than my Apple TV remote.

Excellent choice for most TV watchers. Easy to setup with all of the inputs and outputs the average user needs. Picture is comparable (or even better) than most TVs in this class. After some trial and error, I found that the onboard tuner produced better performance than did a cable company's supplied HD Digital box.

This is an excellent choice for a second TV. The image and the sound are good. The size and light weight make it ideal for wall mounting in a bedroom. And for the price ($180) you can't go wrong.

So far I'm happy with this TV; good sound, good picture, good size for the room it's being used in. The main disappointment is the remote and on screen menus. The menu is very clunky to get through; have to press menu, then scroll over to channel settings (?), then down to list, then select to see a list of the channels to select from; though you can manually enter a channel selection.
The info display fro the channels is also limited. It cuts off the description if it's more than a couple lines long. Also does not display information on upcoming programs; either in the channel list (doesn't show whats on currently here either) or when pressing the info button; nor do you have the option to set a timer to change to another station/program.
I don't have cable so these have been useful functions with the TV I previously used in this space.
Maybe a universal remote will improve things....

Very happy with this early (self) Christmas present. At 199.99, I could not pass up a 40" television to replace my older, much smaller tv. Light enough that I could still use my 15-32" full motion wall mount, which also fit perfectly to the mounting holes on the back of the tv,
Excellent picture quality, adequate audio, but I have a surround sound system anyway. Multiple HDMI inputs which are very conveniently located. Easy setup and no complaints after 2 days with it.

I bought this TV as an after Christmas sale item and though it's basic, it works fine. So far I have not had any problems with it. I will say that the 32" insignia tv I bought about 3 years ago seems to have a better, clearer picture. Not sure why. For the price this is a good affordable TV option.
