    A great idea for cord-cutters

If you want to cut the cord from your cable or satellite tv provider, this tv is a great way to go. Roku provides the best coordination for all streaming services available. For me, it even provides a "channel" for my Tablo, which is a home DVR for my over the air (antenna) programming. If you still have cable service or satellite, this tv works just fine too, though you will have to go through the Roku menu at startup. I pay for Sling and Hulu and have been an Amazon Prime member for a while so I get those services, all through the Roku organizational system. I'm saving enough to justify the purchase of this tv. The advantage of this over a regular big-screen tv with a separate Roku device attached is that the single remote handles Roku features and the tv itself (volume, etc.). The integration is really nice. If you have no intention of using all those streaming services, or will use them only occasionally, then there is really no reason to buy this tv. The picture quality is good (I haven't played with the color settings enough to get it just right, but there are plenty of ways to make adjustments). The sound is pretty atrocious. All big TVs today seem to have lousy sound, probably on purpose so you pay for a sound bar as well, and I will eventually do that here. This set has decent-sized speakers facing straight down as is normal, but the sound is hollow and thin, despite a few audio settings you can choose from in the menu. Overall, this is a good buy and a great choice if you want to get away from expensive content providers.

    Roku Rockstar!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I needed a cheap basement TV for a house we just bought. They finished the basement real nice but only put one cable outlet. On top of that they left behind a TV mount screwed into the wall far from the outlet. I think they just hung a TV to game console on. We set up a pull out couch for over night guest and I really wanted to mount a TV on the existing wall mount. Enter Roku TV! I knew we could get Netflix and figured we'd add an Amazon stick for our Prime. I was so happy to see the Roku already had an Amazon App! Big bonus! But the real surprise was the TWC TV App. As a TWC user I installed the App and set up my account easily at TWC and on the Roku. Now we have most of our TWC through the Roku with nothing but a power cord attached to the TV. The Roku interface is amazingly easy to use and connects quickly to our Wifi when the TV is turned on. I will add our Wifi router is upstairs on the second floor and connects strongly to this basement TV. I now have TWC, Amazon, Netflix, SiriusXM (Howard Rules!) and YouTube tiles to choose from as soon as the TV is turned on. I am really impressed with Roku having never used it before. It's a great product. The TV itself is very nice and has a great picture in spite of the cheap price. I couldn't be more happy. Thanks Best Buy, Insignia and Roku!

    Nice tv for the price

I never write reviews, but when I was doing my research before purchasing I laughed at a lot of these reviews that had been posted on different products..so I thought I'd write one this time. For starters, I've always gone with either Insignia, LG, or Samsung for my top choice brands. The last tv I purchased was an Insignia as well. Still going great after 5 years and no complaints or malfunctions. Exactly what you want right? So why change it up. Was going to go with the newer 4k uhdtv, but from everything I've seen and heard, it's best to wait some time till they work out all the kinks. Therefore, I decided to buy a nice sized, clear hd, quality tv until then. Hence the purchase of this model. Conclusion: Very light weight made it easy to lug it up 3 flight of stairs to my apartment. Easy setting it up and no issues with the initial sync. Let's you choose what programs you want on your home page for easy navigation. They really did make this idiot proof. Easy controls and had it up and running within 5-10 minutes. ONLY issue I had was the remote didn't come with AAA batteries like it said. But had some anyways so no hassle for me. Very pleased thus far!

    Nice colors

We bought the Samsung 48" Black Friday Smart TV and it had some defects so we decided to go with a different brand. This TV has very bright colors. The Roku smart streaming has an overwhelming amount of streaming selections, many at no extra cost. It also has on demand versions of cable channels. The remote has a simple design and it's responsive. We also got the low cost insignia sound bar and it works well with this TV. Everything was pretty easy to set up.

No RCA audio out, no wall-mount screws, depth...

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This TV replaced a recent 46" Insignia LED LCD TV which was damaged by contractors. Although it is the closest available replacement in terms of specifications, It is an entirely different unit. The bezel is much smaller on this unit (was 2.5"-3.5" on the older unit), and despite the screen size being 2" larger, this unit is several inches smaller overall, thanks to the smaller bezel. You might think this is a good thing. Not necessarily. The bezel performed an important feature: it helped to hide the mounting hardware on the wall because it stuck out a ways. This is further complicated by the additional depth of this unit, which means when mounted, it is significantly further from the wall, making the mounting bracket much easier to see. This actually really stinks, as the installation no longer looks anywhere near as clean as it did on the thinner unit this replaced. This TV is approximately twice the depth of the Insignia unit it replaces. I can only attribute this to the addition of the WiFi radio antenna, but you would think they could have designed it in a much more efficient manner. This TV is nearly 4" deep without the stand (and if you need the stand, expect to need over 10" of clearance, front + rear combined). This is not an efficiently designed television. Competitors do appear slimmer (although I have not checked their specs). Then again, this was $350 on sale, less than 1/3 the cost of the unit it replaced. Perhaps I can live with this for the cost savings. There are also two glaring oversights which proved to be troublesome in the (wall-mount) installation process: 1) Unlike the unit it replaces which is only a couple years old, this unit has no audio out RCA jacks. I have a gorgeous, older high-end AV receiver that sounds absolutely fantastic. It does not have either optical audio or HDMI inputs. I had to buy an adapter (male stereo headphone -> female RCA stereo) into which I plugged my RCA cable that runs to the receiver from the headphone jack on the unit. Every time you add another link in the chain, you affect the integrity of the signal, increasing attenuation. There is now another (relatively weak) link in my audio chain, and I can hear the difference in signal quality. It does not sound as good as the previous installation. This is uncool. I should not have to upgrade my AV receiver to suit a unit 2-3 years newer. RCA audio out is still the defacto standard, and it's absence on this TV is a glaring omission. 2) Unlike the unit this replaces, the mounting screws for attaching it to a wall mount are NOT included. They were included on the previous TV, along with large spacers. This proved to be a frustrating problem for a couple reasons: 1) I had to make a trip to Home Depot to get the M6 screws I needed, and 2) a channel depth is not indicated in the specifications, so the screws I bought (only 1") were far too long. I improvised a washer-type arrangement and mounted it, but I am definitely not happy with the results. I will be making a second trip to Home Depot to get the correct depth screws and replacing these (the depth seems to only be about 5/8", although I have not measured it). It is incredibly uncool that the unit does not come with mounting screws. Every TV is different, and there are lots of variants on mounting screws--the ones that came with the previous unit were much larger and more sturdy than the M6 machine screws this unit uses. I live in earthquake country (L.A.). This is not confidence-inspiring. Also, the overall build quality is nowhere near as sturdy as the Insignia unit it replaces. This is likely because they are made by two different companies. The first one is manufactured by LG, and it shows in all the details. it is a very high-quality unit, and it shows in the sturdiness of the mounting points, the design, and the structural quality and rigidity of the unit itself. This one is made by HiSense, and while the reliability rating is quite good, I feel I definitely downgraded, without intending to. Like having a Lexus and replacing it with a Nissan. Also, note that if you use the headphone jack to connect to an older AV unit as I have, you will no longer have a headphone jack available on the TV (although you can use the one on your AV receiver). Another annoyance: the Roku remote is nowhere near as good as *real* Roku remotes included with actual Roku boxes (of which I have owned three), for three reasons: 1) It is not RF--it is IR and much be pointed at the TV (Roku remotes are RF, which is *awesome*) 2) It does not have a headphone jack on it (My Roku 3 remote does) 3) The button design has changed--and it is not good. They have returned to locating the "OK" in the center of the plus-sign directional controller (as it was on the original Roku box remotes), which is fine (I like it better, actually). However, after years of having Roku remotes with the OK button being located directly below the directional controller, this is a genuine nightmare to get used to. Not so bad you say? Well, it would be much better if they had not decided to put the Sleep Timer button (unnecessary in the first place--I mean, do YOU use this function?) in the exact spot the OK button used to be. WTH?? I spent the entire first few days turning the sleep timer on and off instead of clicking OK. So annoying. The Sleep Timer button now has the front-and-center button location on the remote, where the most-used button used to be, yet it is likely the least-used feature. Worse yet, when I use the Roku remote in my other room (Roku 3), I use the old layout with the OK button there instead, so my brain doesn't get to re-program itself properly for the new layout. This is incredibly frustrating. This is a decent TV for the money. I actually can't believe I got a 48" 1080P Smart/Roku TV for $350. Definitely a steal, but it is not without it's quirks. Picture quality is pretty good, but it is actually not quite as sharp as it was on the LG-manufactured Insignia unit it replaces. Also, note there is no way to fine-tune the audio signal (i.e. bass, treble, etc). You have only presets. Not cool. For someone who used this as a stand-alone unit (ie. no HT installation), this would be frustrating. Am I happy? Mostly. Engineering and build quality are definitely inferior to those of the unit it replaces = minus one star. Lack of RCA audio-out and mounting screws, plus Roku remote redesign = minus one star. 3/5. I would recommend this unit based on the value equation alone.

    Great TV!

I read reviews on multiple different TVs before deciding to purchase this one, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It was a little slow to connect to my existing Roku account, but I think that is because I don't have the best wireless service. The only thing that I thought was a little strange is that it doesn't come with a regular remote with numbers, just the small Roku remote.

Excellent Smart TV for not so smart IT Person

Excellent TV, the picture is very clear, VERY easy to set up. I am not IT techie, but this was so easy to hook up and within a few minutes I was playing Pandora. It's amazing what this TV can do and can access. It walks you through the set up of hooking up your TV to wifi. Once you are hooked up, you register for Roku, which you can access for free and then it allows you to add apps. to your TV. It also lets you hook up your other IT devices. I was so apprehensive as to whether getting a smart TV was worth it, but yes, it is and I only buy Insignia. They really are excellent quality. Also hooked up my Insignia sound bar, both are excellent value for the price. I also bought the open box geek certified and got an additional savings... Can't go wrong with this purchase. Picture is great, colors are great.

    Simple but not great

Very good price for a larger smart TV. I was surprised as how integrated the Smart TV aspects (e.g., Roku) were. The remote was so simple I was amazed. Picture is just ok for 1080P. Not happy that there's no Network plug in, the WiFi draw is an issue and causes occasional delays in streaming content. Also, the AV output jacks don't work. I'll be taking this back and spending a little more for a better picture / sound with working AV outputs and a Network cable input. Best Buy rep didn't ask about my Home Network - otherwise would have found out I really wanted to plug in to my network.

I love this TV. I can't believe I been without a smart TV all this time. I was able to carry this TV in the house by myself and I'm only 5"1. It has a nice picture quality and if you download the roku on app on your phone you can turn it into a remote with voice search!!

    First Smart TV

This is my first smart tv. I purchased 4 Months ago. It works great! I purchased it for my bedroom. I love the roku feature although I have Dish network. This Tv is better than I thought it would be exceeds my expectations. I read so many reviews for days before I made the purchase. I was not familiar with the Insignia Brand. I am very happy with my purchase. Grandkids took over my Tv. I had to go out and purchased the Roku 3 to put on their Hdtv to make it smart like mines. So I am now able to enjoy My Tv.

This is my 2nd RokuTV purchase for the family room. Easy setup with crisp images when using netflix and other apps . But Verizon fios coax cable on a non HDTV box yields less than desirable quality. Width is not 48 inches, it's 43 inches wide/across. The 48 inch measurement is diagonally from bottom of left screen to top right. Makes no sense, but it's a perfect fit for my space. I recommend this tv.

Great picture, not so great remote

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I am not a techie and I don't care if I have the latest and greatest in video offerings. I just wanted a larger tv for a reasonable price and that's what I got. I don't have cable, so I stream a lot. This tv is great for that unless you are a Sling TV subscriber, as am I. For that it sucks. At least for me. I had trouble with it loading on my Roku stick and have the same problem with the Roku TV. It just keeps showing that annoying "loading" swirly thing, then says "An error has occurred. Please try again later." I don't experience this when I view Sling on my laptop, so I can only assume it's Roku. The other problem I have is that there are no numbers on the remote so I can't flip back and forth between shows. I am a football fan and often follow two games and have a hard time doing this with the Roku remote. I have to channel up and down to get back to the other game which is annoying when there are a dozen channels to scroll through. I tried to program a universal remote to eliminate this issue, but it wouldn't work with this TV. For these reasons, I will be returning it. I would recommend this item to someone if they have cable and enjoy streaming. It is a great TV for the price.

The picture color and clarity were perfect right out of the box and set up was very simple. Didn't think I wanted a smart TV but decided to go for it since it was only about $30 more. So glad I did! The Roku is super easy to use and the whole family is enjoying all the extra features. Highly recommend this TV and see no need to spend the extra money for a 'name' brand.

I was a lil skeptical about buying this tv because I don't know much about the Insignia brand. But I must say that I'm loving it so far. I had a Sharp roku tv that gave me so many problems but I returned it and bought this tv. It's cheaper and I get the same benefits of other smart roku tvs. I think I found a winner.

Excellent tv for the price. I could not find a better deal anywhere and the free entertainment package makes even that much better. Even at the current price is would be a great deal. Easy set up and very easy to navigate around round. This is my first smart tv and should not have waited this long. Ordered online Saturday and delivered and set up by Tuesday night.

Great TV: Would like to Label channels

I purchased this TV for a bedroom. It is easy to set-up, good picture, handles my wifi easily. I wish it would allow the user to label digital TV channels as my cable provider does not pass on labels except for local digitals. Other brands like Samsung have this drawback as well. Sony allows labeling. But for the price difference it is still a great purchase.

I purchased this TV online yesterday and picked it up in store. It's VERY light (I'm 5'2 and not strong by any means and I put it in my car all by myself) the setup is very straightforward, you only need a simple screwdriver. The picture is beautiful and the sound from the TV speakers is actually really good, in a smaller room (mine is in my bedroom) you could definitely get away with not having a sound set up. For $350, you really can't beat the deal of the picture quality, the sound quality AND the fact that it's a smart TV. Roku is built in, you don't need ANYTHING besides just the TV to stream Netflix, HBO, and tons of other free channels that it offers. And if you want to, you can buy any movie you want for a night for just a couple bucks. It's awesome. If you're looking for a simple, straightforward, all-in-one TV without complications, this is it! It's an awesome deal, if you're debating it, JUST GET IT BEFORE IT'S GONE!!
