This desk is very comfortable, sturdy, and is the perfect size for my setup. The wood has a good feel to it, the drawer is smooth and durable, and you can change the size of the legs! This is a very good purchase for someone who doesn’t want to break the bank, but still wants something with good quality!

I have bought many electronic products from Best Buy’s house brand Insignia, but never tried its furnishings before. I thought I’d give the Insignia 47” computer desk a try since I was planning to buy my daughter a new computer desk to replace a decades old desk that no longer fit our decor. Important to be aware of during unpacking: The contents are well packaged with protective cardboard and foam. I recommend that anyone who purchases this desk open the box in a well ventilated space because the wood panels smell of formaldehyde which was used in the manufacture of the particleboard for the desk. In fact, because I could not stand the smell, I had to let it air out for a few hours before I could begin the assembly. Insignia did a fine job facilitating the assembly process. All of the desk panel pieces have a sticker with a number identifying the piece. The hardware is placed in individual zip lock bags with corresponding letters to make it easy to identify each hardware when following the instructions in the assembly manual. The manual takes you step-by-step through the 18 steps that are needed to fully put together the desk. The hardware package comes with some spare screws and a hex key tool that you need for the assembly. The only other tools that are needed are a hammer and a phillips head screwdriver. It took me approximately 2.5 hours to assemble the computer desk. What I liked about the computer desk: +Sturdy: You’ll find yourself turning a lot of screws to assemble the desk, but in the end it is worth it as you will find that the desk is rather sturdy. I like that the rear of the desk has a metal cross brace for added stability. +Adjustable feet to aid leveling: If your floor is uneven, you can adjust the feet at each of the 4 corners to level the desk. +Compact Size: This desk fits in small spaces which is a big advantage. The table top measures 47” x 20” and the height from the ground to the underside of the desk is a standard 25”. The table top is just the right size for my needs. I am able to comfortably put my laptop with an external monitor, wireless keyboard, and mouse on the table top without feeling cramped. +The drawer and the open storage are quite functional. The center drawer glides smoothly along its roller, is easy to open and close, and has a stylish black handle. It’s got plenty of space to put things away and out of view. And the best part is that on either side of the drawer, there are open areas that allow for even greater storage needs. And here’s what I did not like about the desk. I took off one star in my review for the two items below: -It reeks of formaldehyde when first unpackaging. I already covered this above. -Poor quality control. The table top and the drawer that I received both have what appear to be huge scratch marks along the length of the table top and the drawer. It looks like an animal dug its claws and scraped along the desk. The damage was not done during shipping, since the packaging was not damaged. This leads me to conclude that this slipped past Insignia’s quality control inspection, if they even have one. (On the other hand, the scratch marks, which I believe are unintentional, gives the desk a more rustic look as if the table top was taken from a natural piece of wood where a wild animal clawed at it.) Do I recommend the Insignia 47” computer desk? While there is not much that can be done for a computer desk, Insignia did a respectable job designing a functional, compact, and sturdy computer desk while adding a touch of modern flair with the rear cross bracing and the open storage spaces. The desk will be much more agreeable once the initial formaldehyde smell dissipates. For those that have limited space, a small desk such as this one will work just fine. I definitely would recommend it, but make sure you inspect it for scratches before assembling it.

I absolutely love this new desk! This desk had the perfect trifecta of what I hope for in a product: good quality for a decent price, excellent packaging, and reasonably easy assembly. It is just the right size, sturdy, and looks great. I was surprised by how sturdy and solid it felt once fully assembled. Visually stunning - So this is a great looking piece of furniture. It’s not real wood but it’s still pleasing to the eye; it fooled most people. The packaging arrived safely and the desk looks perfect. It was very easy to assemble. Everything was clearly marked, easy to read directions with pictures. It took me about an hour by my self to assemble the desk. All hardware is included - they also include a bag of spare hardware. The only tool you need that isn’t included is a phillips head screwdriver. We have been looking for a desk for my 7 year old son and did a lot of searching for a smaller desk. Something he could use for homework and whatever else needed. We landed on this one for several reasons: size, storage, and the look. It was exactly what was described and the wood grain is perfect for his room. This is spacious enough for him to have his regular school stuff along with his snacks. The drawer is also spacious. He usually stores his pencil/color boxes, extra books/notebooks etc in it. There are empty spaces on either side of the drawer for more storage. It will be perfect if I ever want to use it for my work. Again, this is spacious enough to hold two monitors, keyboard, a mouse, headphones etc and still leave some room. All of the accessories can be stored in the drawer in case you have guests coming over. The only criticism I have is that the drawer doesn't go in and out as smoothly as I expecting. I may be able to fix that with a little WD-40 on the sliding hardware. All in all, it's a great desk and I would definitely recommend it.

This desk is sturdy and looks great in one of our two offices at home. The top feels and looks like real wood and the metal legs/support looks great. Although this is my first furniture piece from insignia, I honestly think it’s built better than other brands (that you put together yourself). I like how long it is to give an abundance of elbow room and narrow but not to narrow. I can easily have my computer and paper workspace with a very small printer. It also has storage space with one large drawer and a small but deep open cubby on each side of the drawer. The build: Building the desk took me about 45 minutes to an hour. Directions were on par and were easy to follow. The first thing I noticed when laying all the parts out was all of the screws, bolts, parts, etc were each labeled in their own resealable bag! It was very convenient that insignia thought about this as I was able to open each baggie as pieces were need and I didn’t have to rip open bags and loose track of parts and their associated letter to identify a part with the directions. The 2nd thing I noticed was that all of the physical parts of the desk were clearly numbered and none of the numbering stickers were missing. Often when you buy and build furniture there’s always a part or two that the manufacturer forgot to number/letter or it feel off during shipping well this was not the case here. The stickers we’re also easily removable after building to give that clean appearance. The single only flaw with this desk is that the holes drilled for the drawer handle are crooked? I was surprised as all the other holes drilled in this desk we’re perfect during setup but somehow the handle holes got a little off. I included a picture of this. I did not dock stars as this desk looks great, feels great, and was built great. The handle is barely noticeable.

The Insignia Computer Desk is a furniture piece that can easily transition into most rooms and definitely give you the functionality you need. [PROS] Assembly - Putting together this piece of furniture can be done easily by one individual. It would take take a least 45 minutes to assemble if you don't rush and are focused. Fortunately, all of the necessary screws and parts were properly labeled and separated. Also, spare parts are included which is a bonus for mishaps or missing pieces. Build Quality - Despite being composed of MDF, this desk has a sturdy nature it. The wood boards used aren't lightweight or thin. They actually have a good level of thickness to them. Size - 47 inches is an adequate length for most computer desk needs. I was also bit surprised at the mount of items that I could place on top of the desk. Storage Compartments - My favorite thing about this desk is the drawer and additional storage compartments. I have more than enough space to hold all of my supplies and other materials. Furthermore, the back of the desk has a opening and a slot that could be used for cable management and storing a surge protector. [CONS] Material Used - I'm not the biggest fan of MDF or engineered wood furniture because they are easily prone to wear and tear. However, MDF does allow for more affordable prices without compromising on style. Given that this item is a computer desk, it is intended to be used regularly. Yet, I would warn against a lot activity that might cause friction between the desk and the item on top of it. If you are just working on a laptop or mainly typing on a keyboard then you should be fine. Investing a large mousepad could further prolong your investment as well. Problematic Monitor Mounting - This is computer desk, but the construction will not allow for a dual monitor setup. Many dual monitor mounts need a certain amount of unobstructed wood (located on the back of the desk) to clamp down on. The manner in which the back of desk is designed doesn't allow for this to occur. Nevertheless, I probably would avoid using more than one monitor on the desk anyway given the weight capacity. [CONCLUSION] The Insignia Computer Desk is many things. It's simple. It takes up just the right amount of space and adds a simple touch to any room. I love it and would highly recommend for anyone need of a desk.

This is pretty sturdy desk with a metal frame and particle board desk area. The color is a beige/grey that is pretty. The size is good for a smaller room, and you are able to put a chair under it with no problem. I am 5’4” so this works for me. The box was packaged very well and the product was protected by Styrofoam and pieces were wrapped in plastic. The instruction booklets were at the very bottom and found after totally unpacking the box. There was a red plastic bag that included all the hardware you will need and a little bag of “extras” – good thinking! I only used a Philips head screwdriver however it calls for a hammer (if you are going to attach it to your wall with the supplied straps) It took me/us about 1.5 hrs to put together. I probably could have done it alone but so much easier having help to hold pieces as it was put together. Pros: Nice looking desk and pretty sturdy because of the metal frame and cross support in the back. Nicely sized to hold 2 monitors and a laptop. The drawer holds desk essentials and the 2 open areas on either side hold notebooks, papers, etc. The feet are adjustable if you need to level it on a floor. I have it on carpeting and it seems just fine. I like the cord niche and storage on the back of the desk. Cons: It is made of particle board so you have to be very careful when putting it together so you do not crack it. The drawer bottom piece of board had a broken corner but I was able to place some wood glue and a little piece of tape over it and it is in the back of the drawer so not a huge issue. Just take your time… It is a nice little desk that is appropriate for smaller office areas, college dorms, etc.

Didn't know that Best Buy was selling computer desks... Package came in tact. A few dings and dents but the packaging protected the wood. I usually get leary with particle board and the potential for it to get damaged during shipping. Installation was straight forward. It took me just a little over 1 hour. Instructions were easy to follow. Yeah... NO Pieces or parts missing. The parts bag was easy to find. It had a red string attached to it so I could find it quickly. Build is surprisingly nice. The steel legs made it super sturdy. The back X Brace helped reduce wobble and stiffened it up. Color was nice. It matched our extra area just perfectly. The adjustable feet are a plus! Helped balance out an uneven floor and was great. Drawer operates nicely. Lots of room to store in the drawer and the 2 other compartments. Surface area was good. Fits laptop and you still have more room for papers etc. The back has ledges to attach monitor mounts easily. Overall good quality and versatile. I would recommend this product. Good job insignia...

    NICE, SOLID, PRACTICAL COMPUTER DESK

The Insignia 47” Computer Desk with Drawer attracted me because of its relatively compact dimensions and scale. It has a contemporary, minimalist style which is both practical and visually appealing. The Insignia computer desk is a knockdown / flat-pack / ready to assemble (RTA) unit. The carton weighs a respectable 52.5 lbs. The contents are very well packed with sufficient packing material to protect the contents from shipping and handling damage. The Insignia desk is comprised of two major assemblies. The top, wooden unit incorporating the desktop and a single waist drawer with cubbies on either side of the drawer attaches to a black, painted, square steel tube base. The desk measures 47” wide and 20” deep, which is a diminutive, compact profile, yet sufficiently commodious to accommodate laptops, external monitors, keyboards and other peripherals. The desktop elevation is 30” above the floor, and the bottom of the top unit is only 25” above the floor. The 25” chair clearance may be problematic for desk chairs with arms, as it will likely prevent the chair from being positioned close to the desk or stored under the desk. It would be wise to measure the height of the arms of any chair intended for use with this desk. The wood parts appear to be fabricated of low density fiber board (LDF), (aka particle board) which is laminated with a photorealistic paper with the appearance of a gray toned ash wood. The “wood” color is very neutral and is not a particularly warm shade, so it is suitable for use with a variety of other furnishings and room décor colors. Every part is numbered with a small adhesive label, and each hardware item is packaged in its own zip closure plastic bag which is also numbered with a label. All of the hardware bags are packed together in a red master bag for shipping. There were no missing pieces, and in fact one bag is labeled as containing spare hardware. The printed User Guide (two versions in English and Spanish) provides step-by-step, illustrated assembly instructions. Each assembly step includes the numeric reference to the corresponding numbered part(s) as well as the required hardware. The instructions are comprehensive and complete and generally straightforward. The enumerated assembly steps are correctly ordered for the proper assembly of the desk. There are several task-specific assembly notes peppered throughout the instructions which, if followed, will prevent avoidable, unnecessary rework. The only tools which should be necessary for assembly of the Insignia Computer Desk are a #2 Philips head screwdriver and an Allen Wrench, which is included in the hardware package. The LDF assembly is predominantly dowel reinforced, cam lock construction, with some sections that are assembled with coarse thread wood screws. All hardware is metric sizes. The square tube metal base and leg assembly components are secured with threaded inserts and black, soft steel M6 machine screws. The LDF assembly is fastened to the metal base with pressed-in threaded inserts in the LDF and M6 machine screws with washers through the metal tube. A nice touch is that the slides for the waist drawer are ball bearing construction, and likely will operate smoothly and reliably and have a good service life. I have assembled a significant quantity of knockdown furniture from numerous manufacturers. The time invested in assembling the Insignia Computer Desk, from opening the shipping carton, unpacking and inspecting all of the LDF pieces, inventorying all of the hardware to ensure that none was missing, and carefully and methodically assembling the unit in accordance with the printed assembly instructions, was approximately two hours. The assembly time was slightly extended due to the need to correct the threads of several of the threaded inserts which are tack welded into the steel tubing of the base/legs assembly. Several of the threaded inserts would not readily accept the machine screws without excessive torque being applied. Generally, forcing a machine screw to recut the threads of the insert will work acceptably when there is no future need or intention to ever dissemble and reassemble the part. However, if there is a need to use the threaded parts more than once, such as is absolutely the case with the four rubber footed leveling legs which are comprised of molded rubber feet mounted on chromed threaded bolts, and which will be operated repeatedly throughout the life of the desk, the threaded parts need to operate freely and without binding or force. This unexpected repair operation consumed some time. For the reader’s reference, in the event that you need to correct the threads of the inserts, the correct tap size is M6-1.0 (standard rack bolt size). It is worth noting that due care will be necessary when using the desk, to avoid inflicting damage to the surfaces. Paper laminated board surfaces should be treated similarly to soft wood furniture to prevent scratches, tear-outs and delamination of the paper surface. Paper laminated board is extremely common in knockdown furniture, as it is far more economical than low-pressure laminate, such as Melamine, or a very durable high-pressure laminate like Formica. Under normal household use, paper laminated furniture performs acceptably, and looks just fine. I have several such pieces of furniture that have lasted many years and which remain is good condition both structurally and cosmetically. This type of laminate simply cannot tolerate abusive or even hard treatment, whether through routine carelessness or mishap. Once properly assembled, the Insignia Computer Desk is rigid and stable. The crossbuck reinforced tubular steel base has no flex whatsoever. This desk is rock solid! The diminutively sized desk weighs a respectable 52.5 lbs. The desktop is rated for up to 80 lbs. of load on the top. The cubby shelf is rated for a mere 5 lbs. and the waist drawer for only 4 lbs. The Insignia Computer Desk is a very nice, sturdy and utilitarian desk. Its small scale does not overwhelm the living space, yet the size and load capacity of the desktop is very accommodating. I can certainly recommend the Insignia Computer Desk. A reasonably straightforward assembly process yielded an attractive and very solid computer desk. It looks very nice and I am confident that it will serve quite nicely for many years.

Very simple and modern look that compliments my new office space in my garage! Pros: + It is relatively easy to assemble + Wide enough to fit two 27" monitors. + I love love the cable management nook behind the desk. What a clever idea so the cables are hidden from plain sight. 2 monitors, docking station, phone charger, DVI cables, they can add up! Cons: - With the lowest foot setting, this table is slightly too high for me. I'm 5'2" and I have to prop up my chair now (which I'm not crazy about because my feet are now hanging) so my elbows are ergonomically positioned. - Drawer is a little bit hard to push in, although pulling out is not as much a problem. - Although the look is very nice and the color is elegant, the material is a bit too cheap. If you tilt a screw slightly while tightening it, it will crack the wood surface. :( - The edge is a bit too sharp which is going to leave marks on my wrists now. Overall, I'm happy with this product especially at the price comparing to other computer desks out there!

The desk has a clean and attractive modern design. The desk will take about 45 minutes to about an hour depending on your skill level, but it’s fairly easy to put together. The desk is made of particle board with a nice durable feeling laminate with a nice simulated wood finish that has a nice texture to it. The desk has a nice size drawer with two nice side pockets adding extra storage for quick access. The top attaches to a nice metal frame that feels very stable. If you’re not using this against a wall the back has a shelf that runs the length of the desk that could be used for even more storage. If you do place it against the wall, they include two straps that you attach to the desk during installation. They include two wall anchors that allow you to attach the desk to the wall. Having the straps give you piece of mind the desk can’t be knocked over and ruin you’re expensive equipment. If you’re looking for a simple desk that is attractive and has storage, this Insignia desk should be on your short list.

Very nice stylish desk. The assembly took about 1.5 hours but I did spend a bit of time stopping to go get my tools. I have put together a lot of ready to assemble furniture but this is probably one of the few that had all the parts including screws and associated hardware AND everything went together with ease. The assembly instructions are very clear and easy to follow. So much so that they have blow outs of certain areas so you are sure you a putting the rails in in the correct direction. Whenever I assemble furniture that has wood dowels, I always use some wood glue in the dowel holes. It is not required but something I have always done. A few of the features that I like about this desk include the fully adjustable feet, the pullout drawer is on roller ball glides and not the cheaper wheel rails and the grain wood covering is pretty good in both appearance and texture. The metal frame is very sturdy and although the desk it rated for 80 lbs I wound be surprised if it could support more although I don't know why you would need to. I would rate this as a pretty good value for the money.

The desk came packaged very well with cardboard and plenty of foam board to protect it from damage. All the hardware and each desk component was clearly labeled, making finding the correct piece very easy. The instruction book was well written with good diagrams. It took about 2 hours to assemble. The only tricky part of the assembly was getting the drawer to slide in at the end but that was because a ball bearing had slid out of place. Once that was put back - it went in without any problems. The only negative about the entire desk is that the drawer doesn't slide in and out "smoothly", but it does function and there is a stop so the entire drawer won't pull out accidently. The materials are light-weight but still high quality. Once together, the desk is very sturdy. The best features of this desk are the aesthetic but functional design, the style and the size. The desk has a "shelf" in back which can be used to hide power cords - brilliant. The top has a small curved cutout which is good for moving the desk, but also for mounting a dual monitor stand - another great idea. The style is clean and modern, but will go with just about any decor. What I like best is the size. It's not too big or bulky - but big enough for a computer and as a functional desktop workspace.

Insignia's Computer Desk with Drawer is well designed and very sturdy. It was securely packaged and all the parts were intact upon arrival. The enclosed manual (both in English and Spanish) were easy to follow with helpful diagrams. One of the wooden dowels was defective but there were extra parts, so I had no problem finishing the assembly. From the start (opening the box) to finish (installing the drawer), it took me about 2 and a half hours. I read the manual carefully, laid out and accounted all the parts in advance and carefully examined each step, so it took a bit longer. If you have someone else helping you, it'll probably go much quicker but it can definitely be completed by one person. The finish product was much better than I expected. The grey color is subtle, so I think it blends in well with any décor. The entire construction is sturdy and I appreciate its simple and minimalist design. 47" width is definitely wide enough for my laptop, lamp and any other essentials for my home office. The only negative (hence the 4-stars) was the height between the bottom of the desk to the floor is shorter than my old desk - it's only 25". The arms of my chair is exactly 25" at the lowest position, so the chair can't be pushed/stowed underneath the desk. When I measured my old desk, it was 26 and 1/4", so it had enough clearance. If you are using an armless chair, this is non-issue but I wanted to point it out. Maybe Insignia can also keep that in mind for their future products. Otherwise, it's a great desk and I recommend it.

This is a fairly standard desk in a box that you'd build step by step with the provided instructions. Took me approximately an hour to put it together and I’m not the most handy of people. The instruction booklet is very well laid out and guides you through the process quite well. The pieces all fit extremely well and the particle board material is nice for a budget friendly price. The overall look and feel of this desk is very nice and fairly modern. I feel it suits me well for my home office needs. Ideally I could see this being used for a child's desk space, work from home need, or a community desk space in our home. The measurements for the desk are accurate as stated on the item description, at 30"H x 47"W x 20"D. Enough space to easily lay out a laptop computer, along with an external monitor, and additional keyboard. I like having a small drawer to help keep small items hidden away. The drawer is easy to function and glides very smoothly to open and close. There are also the two small cubby spaces to the left and right of the desk which are great for tucking away video game controllers or over the ear headphones. There is also an area hidden away behind the desk where you can hide some extra wires in a recessed space. The wood finish has a nice gray toned wood look. Very modern design that looks upscale. Great in my opinion as a starter desk or a mid-tier desk for everyday usage. Enough space to still feel minimal and not take over a whole room.

It’s flat? Review complete! Just kidding, but we can agree that there’s only so much to be said about writing about a table, right? Out of the box, this is nothing to write home about. The packaging is very plain both internally and externally. It comes with pretty much everything you need to setup, including a clearly labeled bunch of tools and a separately labeled bunch of pieces to construct the table. Hopefully this isn’t a problem for everyone else but my desk had TONS of little pieces of styrofoam inside that had seemingly shattered apart which then sprinkled out in small pieces over the floor, but also a lot stuck to my desk akin to static electricity. By all accounts, setup isn’t too difficult but took quite a bit longer than expected. I’m certainly not a construction worker by trade but have easily put together plenty of pieces in my lifetime. Unfortunately, with so many pieces and different screws and questionable instructions, it probably took me 3-ish hours to complete. Nothing was overly difficult but the pictures on the instructions are basically inverted from the way you’re looking at them more often than not, so you have to be double careful before screwing everything in tight. The two things that this, understandably, doesn’t come with is a hammer and screwdriver, which you’ll need to setup the table so make sure you at least have access to those. I used an electric drill without issue but I don’t think that is their preferred tool for setup. You’ll need to be creative if you aren’t able to lift large objects when setting this up as well since you’ll need to flip the table at some point and generally move it and it is a tad heavy/largely shaped. Insignia also recommends drilling it into the wall as a safety backup, which I opted not to do. If furniture can’t be made to stand by itself without being propped up by damaging my wall, it shouldn’t be used. That said, this seems quite balanced and sturdy so it shouldn’t be an issue. The drawers operate nicely and there’s a few little cubby holes to the side of the drawers for additional storage as well as in the back of the desk that you’d be able to hide some cables in. Unfortunately, once I completed my build, I noticed a solid penny size chunk missing from the table that wasn’t caused by me. Luckily it’s on the side so I could move it against the wall to cover up the unsightly mishap. All in all, it’s a pretty looking table that most anyone could build, and is sturdy, but the time it takes to build, the chunk missing out of the table, and the inverted pictures in the instruction took away from giving this the full five stars. At the end of the day, I certainly don’t hate it but may encourage folks to look at other options before settling on this.

This desk met my expectations. It is sturdy and functional. My grandson assembled it quite easily with the detailed instructions and a power driver. It has plenty of room for my desktop all-in-one computer and papers on top and a roomy drawer for supplies.

We’ve moved with this desk 3 times since we got it. It’s simple to put together and easy to break down to move and out back together. It’s worked perfect for what we’ve needed it for.
