I sit in my recliner in my living room and put a 13" laptop on the riser on my lap or a small computer table near me. I also purchased a package of 12 clear raised rubber bumpers at Home Depot and put 4 (1 in each corner) on the bottom of the laptop. These bumpers raise up the laptop allowing better circulation, and they also prevent it from moving around or slipping off the riser.

It’s not as long as my nightstand but it’s sturdy since it’s metal. I could have bought a wider stand from Amazon but it was convenient being in a Best Buy store. I like it.
