Customers are saying

Customers enjoy the Roomba 880's excellent cleaning performance, ease of use, and long battery life, frequently praising its ability to handle pet hair and pick up dirt effectively. However, some users point out navigation challenges, particularly in complex floor plans, and a small dustbin requiring frequent emptying. The relatively high price point is also a recurring concern for some customers.

I owned the roomba 880 for about 2 weeks when I decided to return it. During the time that I owned it, I did everything I could to optimize it's cleaning abilities. I have a large open floor plan home, and the two lighthouses that came with the roomba just weren't able to section off my house effectively to allow efficient cleaning throughout the whole home each night, minus the bedrooms and bathrooms, no matter where I positioned them. When the roomba was put in a small bedroom, it was amazing! It definitely cleaned more dirt from the carpet than any other vacuum ever had. But that's not all I wanted out of my robot vacuum. I have been a neato xv and botvac owner for the last 5 years. I decided to try the roomba because I got tired of repeated software errors and warranty replacements with the neato. I was not a fan of roombas method of cleaning right off the bat. Aimlessly roaming around for a preset amount of time, regardless of the size of the room/house, and bumping into everything in its path, is more than aggravating. Especially after having a neato that methodically maps out the homes floor plan and covers every area with a purpose. Neato doesn't have dirt detect and the same insane sucking power as the roomba though. There's pros and cons for both of them. It's a matter of preference, and what your specific needs are. Having tried both of them, I personally have to stay with the neato botvac because the roomba simply doesn't do well with a large open floor plan, and two lighthouses. Another thing, I really don't like those things. I prefer the magnetic strips neato vacuums use. No batteries to change, no bulky device sticking out in my doorways. Just a little strip that I stick down with double sided tape anywhere I want to block the vacuum and it never has to be messed with again. The final and most devastating reason I can never recommend a roomba to anyone, is the damage it caused to most of my furniture! The majority of the furniture throughout my home is wood. Including custome wood kitchen cabinets. The roomba literally destroyed the bottom few inches of everything in my house! The side spin brush on the roomba, has three brushes in one that stick out past the edge of the vacuum, and spin to kick up dirt along edges as it cleans. These brushes are held together with a hard rubber housing, which also sticks out past the edge of the vacuum by about an inch or so. The hard rubber hits everything that the brush hits, effectivlely stripping any wood it comes in contact with, of its protective coatings, then it's varnish/stain, then it digs into the wood!!! It took almost two weeks for the roomba to eat away at the varnish enough for me to notice the damage. But by then, it was digging into bare wood! After noticing this first on the leg of a chair, I inspected the rest of the home, finding extensive damage on every single piece of wood furniture in my home! I packed that robot up immediately and took it back, and went back to using the Neato botvac again. I hope roomba fixes this brush problem before it ruines their reputation.

Overall love the unit. Actually after buying one for our downstairs all hardwood and purchased another for our upstairs all hardwood. I have them scheduled to run every other day. Downstairs runs in the middle of night, upstairs run in the middle of the day. We have two long hair small dogs and they do their job picking up. The units do require us to make sure we don't have anything that may get tangled off the floor. One big problem I did have is the legs on our true wood furniture was getting a small nick from the unit circling around it. I corrected by purchasing a felt strip and ran it around the unit. The unit does need to come current and drop the remote, a wifi application is what 2015 demands. It could alert you of issues, allow you to schedule, etc.

IRobot Roomba is a great investment. I say investment because it was $500.00+, but leave it to Best Buy to price match and get me my Roomba delivered to my house in 2 days! We run it everyday and it works like a charm. It runs on hardwood floors, carpet, and tile. You won't be disappointed!

The iRobot 880 goes from hardwood floors to carpet without any problem. We have a dog and was surprised how much the iRobot picks up every other day. The best household item we've ever purchased!

    Best Roomba Yet

We've owned previous Roombas since the 4200 series and this one is by far the best at 1) picking up all kinds of dirt and pet fur; 2) transitioning successfully from carpet to slate or from slate (or tile) to area rug or from hardwood to area rug, etc. 3) the longest lasting battery. iRobot completely updated how Roomba picks up the dirt and debris with this model and eliminated all of the brushes that used to do that work, with rubber "fingers". This generation Roomba can NOW successfully transition across all kinds of flooring without getting caught-up on any type of threshold (high or tall areas) like from slate/tile/hardwood onto an area rug, and does so without stopping and "asking" for help to get up onto the area rug, etc.. This Roomba can NOW pickup ALL of the dirt and debris on ANY of the flooring surfaces within our house. ALL of the previous Roombas with actual brushes would ALWAYS leave dirt and debris (dog fur especially) in clumps on all of the hard flooring surfaces. Speaking of leaving clumps of dog fur behind, this is also the first Roomba that does not leave those dog fur clumps (or any other kinds of dirt clumps) behind when transitioning from hard surface flooring up onto an area rug or down from an area rug back onto hard surface flooring. ALL of the previous Roombas did leave dog fur and other dirt clumps behind when making the up or down flooring transitions. This is also the first Roomba that is extremely easy to clean when compared to all of the previous Roombas (by FAR!). For Reference: Dog hair that this Roomba encounters daily is: Short, soft, fine fur from a Rhodesian Ridgeback (AMAZING breed, BTW...) short, "wirery" fur from a Labrador/Chesapeake Retriever mix that even our Dyson Animal isn't thrilled with picking up and this 880 Roomba seems to be just as good as the Dyson Animal at picking up this fur (when our 700 series Roomba was/is terrible at picking up this fur), and a medium-haired American German Shepherd. We've not experienced any of the issues that others may have experienced to here's to hoping iRobot worked all of those issues out with the models being sold currently.

I was skeptical about making such a large purchase, but this was so worth it! It picks up my Border Collie's hair very easily. I'm always amazed at how much dirt, dust, and dog hair it picks up. I set the time and schedule and it goes. It sometimes gets stuck under my couch, but I put the lighthouse under the couch and it fixed it. I like how I can set it to clean one room completely before it cleans the next.

Because you want to move into management

So, my refurb Dyson finally died. It had a good run. I noticed they're cheaper than they were, and considered replacing it, but really, I rarely have time to vacuum and my Shark (aka "backup vacuum") is still working. I found myself coveting the Roomba; for about the price Dysons used to cost, you could have a robot do the work. When Best Buy put them on sale, we had to get the top-of-the-line one and with the savings, bought Best Buy's warranty. Once I figured out that, while it CAN just go wander around your house, you really want to put it in one room at a time along with its charger and either close the door or use the blockers to keep it in that room, it became clear the benefits of the Roomba. Sure, you have to tell Roomba what to do, but the more specific you are (clean THIS room, not any room you can find) the better it does. It goes UNDER king-sized beds (let's see Dyson do that) and under the sofa. It cleans until it can't see any more dirt, which means your room will be cleaner than it EVER was before. We have a mix of hardwood and tile floors, area rugs, and carpet, and it works fantastically on every surface. It even picks up the fine cat litter and cat food. And (if you remember to leave the charger in the room it's working on), it charges itself when it's done (or runs out of power, whichever comes first). Get it and when you do, remember, the robot needs a manager. You do need to tell it where to clean for best effect, but if you have a small place, I'm betting all the programming features (we haven't bothered with since we have an older house with large rooms) would minimize your management role.

This little guy is interesting, to say the least. It does a nice job of cleaning the floors & transitions seamlessly from carpet to tile and back again. 75% of the time it makes it all the way back to its home (the docking station), but 25% of the time it does not. It gets lost and the battery dies, or it gets stuck somewhere that it cannot get out of. The dust bin needs to be emptied daily, but the two minutes that takes are worth the hour or two it spends vacuuming everyday so I don't have to. I'd buy it again, but give it 4 stars out of 5 because of the rate of getting home on its own.

I purchased this Roomba to keep up with the vacuuming. I have three kids and two long hair dogs that are constantly making a mess. My dogs hate conventional vacuum cleaners because of the noise, which made me a bit nervous of buying the Roomba. I was wrong for worrying because the Roomba is ultra quiet and my dog't even care when its running. The only downside is it requires emptying of its container often, but this is most likely due to my Collie's fur that is everywhere! All in all, this is a great product and is definitely worth the money!

It is very helpful in helping clean the floor everyday to pick up a lot of dust and pet hair. Every time I empty the collection bin, it has always at least half full. The first time I used it it collected a lot of dirt from my floor. I bought 2 of them , one for the downstairs area and another for the upstairs. It definitely helped decrease my nasal stuffiness and I can breath a lot better. It also gave some peace of mind that if I am tired from work, my floor does not accumulate dust, pet hair and dirt even if I don't clean. They are both helpful as maids around the house. A little pricey but hey, who dusts their house every morning and everyday? These two do. I love them and would definitely recommend it. They just get stuck in some areas sometimes. So I use them and schedule them at 6 am everyday when I am home. Used as an alarm clock to. When I hear them start , I know it is time to wake up for work.lol.

I have been using the 880 Roomba for a month. I have a dog and this Roomba has helped me reduce the pet hair in my house. If you are looking for a vacuum that can help you save some time cleaning look no further. The only dowside is the price is a little too high, but well worth it !

Beulah (my Roomba) has been hard at work since arriving! I still tend to follow her around to insure that the rooms are all safe for her, but she does a terrific job, and picks up dirt and particularly cat hair like nobody's business! Just because I'd vacuumed the rugs previously apparently didn't assure that I removed all of the cat hair (and no doubt other dirt) - Beulah goes at it as one possessed, and my floors are looking better every day! She scoots under the sofa, bed and bureaus, seeking out dirt wherever she can find it. The price was a scary point, and what had held me back from purchasing one for so long, but as the reviews point out, this is the newest, and so far the best Roomba. I shopped till I got a great deal, and then snapped Beulah up and took her home with me! I've also been taking her out on field outings, to show my friends how she works, and one of them, (who is disabled), purchased one the same day as I demo'd it for her! She's very happy with her's also, and with the way her floors now look! I would recommend getting some compressed air to clean out the Hepa filter more thoroughly, along with the dirt container.

I love it for its use. Pro: Fully automated (can work alone) decent dustbin. good coverage. good on carpet, hardwood (better on carpet). Cons: Make sure there are no obstacles on floor. room mapping software is buggy. Many time roomba get stuck in corners. Many times I find it stuck in corner for no reason, I expect it to be on dock. Let me know if you have any more questions.

The product is good overall, but having to clean out the tray 3 times for 1 cleaning of the whole house on that big of a unit I would think there could have been a better design for a bigger tray. The robot also gets stuck under my bar. So if it can get in there how come it can't get out from under there. Other than those few things the product works great.

If I am giving 4 stars instead of 5, why do I say it is the best in its class? Well, it is a great product and I don't think there is anything better yet. Even the other manufacturer that has a slight better product - if pet hair is your main issue - cannot compete overall with Roomba 880. However, it is not perfect. It cannot vacuum stairs or couches and you need to remove some things off the floor if you want it to do a good job, just as you would if you were using a Dyson or Shark. But it goes around anything it finds on its way and is not afraid of going under couches, tables and beds and doesn't get stuck easily while doing a good job. I will only give 5 stars to a product like this when they invent Rosie but this Roomba is second only to her. Great product. My wife is very happy with it and that says a lot!!!

If you are crazy busy on weekdays and own a pet that sheds a lot, this Roomba would serve you really well. It goes from carpet to tiles and does a great job. It will not do cobwebs in the corners or corners that well so once a week if you are neat freak you may need to go over it again to give a once over but it keeps the home pet hair free on a daily basis. Easy of use is great... Love it! Just wish it had more virtual walls for this hefty price

My wife asked for the vacuum. I was reluctant, since we have several vacuums. Family likes placing the vacuum in their bedroom and leaving to do other activities/chores. Turns off when done. Vacuum cleans well. Easy dump bin, and so far the family's long hair is an easy item to remove from the extractors.

Subtracting one star since I had to return the first one we had. On our second one now. Had first one programmed for 6 days/week and it petered out after about 7 months with no warning. The problem was that it would go about 10 feet from charger, bump the couch and return back to the charger. Cleaned it & charged it everyday. Handled it with kids gloves. No traumatic events. So I don't feel it's performance issue was due to any lack of needed maintenance or from abuse. Exchanged for new one. Same model. It performs better than the first one. Both cover same area about 2500 sq' ft and takes about 3 days for it to clean this space in it's entirety. Interesting to watch it work. Seems random. I'm not convinced it ever gets every square inch of flooring clean but does good enough to make our weekend vacuuming quick work. Overall very pleased. Can't imagine not having one of these now.
