First, the english voice acting in this game is absolutely fantastic. Second, the combat feels like they are using the same engine as Yakuza 6 but you can also tell that they are constantly tweaking the engine and trying to improve. Lastly, the story is captivating but some of the friend side missions are skippable and you can tell it is pretty much advertisements from real stores in Japan. Enjoy though because this game is worth every penny in my opinion.

As a fan of the Yakuza series I was a little hesitant to give this one a try but after spending almost 30 hours I’m glad I did. This game does a great job making you feel like a detective that skirts the boundaries of the law to get necessary information. The story is pretty good and for the most part the game looks and runs good too. I’m playing on a Pro and while the frame rate does drop at times it’s not enough to take away from the experience. Another minor issue I have is the game is not Pro enhanced at all meaning you will see jaggies everywhere if you are playing on a 4K tv. The English voice acting is not good despite the voice actors best efforts. It’s hard to listen to Yakuza bosses speak with a western cowboy twang and where there should be inflections in the dialogue at times it’s nowhere to be found. It all feels off. I’d recommend playing with the Japanese voices and your native language subtitles. The fighting mechanics feel a little bland but otherwise provide suitable entertainment. It never gets old smashing enemies faces in with bikes, road cones or flashing signs. If you are a newcomer to the series then this is a wonderful entry to the game style Yakuza is well known for. You don’t have to play any of the Yakuza games to understand what’s going on and for the fans then you’ll be pleased to know the city of Kamurocho is alive and thriving. The dramatic story is full of twists and surprises. The graphics are amazing and you’ll often forget you’re playing a game during cut scenes. If you own a PS4 and have a remote interest in these types of games then you’ll have a good time with Judgment.

It doesn't have robust or branching skill tree of fighting like Yakuza 0 or the food exp system like the Kiwami. The art style is definitely lighter in tone but the game world and locations are noticeably shallower in both depth and detail. The voice acting, that is the english dub, is fine when it pops up. The problem is that only does 25% of the time. Outside of Main Story cutscenes, there is no dub or it is found piecemeal and jarred between different lines of opposite characters. There is literally a scene where you solve a case for TWINS SITTING NEXT TO EACHOTHER and one of them speaks perfect english and the speaks completely in japanese in front of the player character who also speaking english. There is another scene where there is a Musician who greets her audience IN ENGLISH and then proceeds to sing entirely in the japanese dub, returning to english after. There are too many examples of this. SEGA wants people to believe they didn't cheap out on the dub by hiring union va's but the reality is that they cut corners literally EVERYWHERE ELSE. To add, I'm talking about both branches of SEGA who worked in tandem to decide these choices especially seeing that they chose in the past to digitally edit out several of their 3D models to erase the likeness of an individual associated with criminal activity, in a game series about YAKUZA and DETECTIVES. That takes more time and money out of their profits after the fact than finishing the dub properly. They were even deceptive enough to toss a survey in the direction of all current owners of the game asking if the dub was passable in a thinly veiled series of questions to excuse not paying for a dub in the future most likely.

Take part in the dramatic tale of a disgraced lawyer seeking redemption in a world rife with corruption and despair.Investigate the seedy Red Light District of Kamurocho by stepping into the mind of private detective Takayuki Yagami, and use innovative investigation systems to uncover the secrets that lie deep within Kamurocho's corrupt underbelly.Experience visceral combat with two unique combat styles.Take down groups of thugs with sweeping blows in Crane style, then switch to Tiger to overwhelm a single foe with a series of powerful strikes.Practice mixing-and-matching styles in combat in conjunction with a wide variety of skills, weapons, and powerful (and hilarious) EX Actions to unlock a whole new dimension in combat.Dual audio - Players can switch between the Japanese and English VO tracks at any point during the game. Experience Judgment using whichever language you prefer.Dual subtitles - Subtitles change based on which audio track is selected - Japanese or English. Japanese voice subtitles are presented in a way that represents the traditional Yakuza experience while English voice subtitles match the English script.Localization pedigree - Judgment's localization has been handled in-house by Sega of America's talented Yakuza series localization team. Redeem yourself in Judgment for the PlayStation 4. You step into the shoes of Takayuki Yagami as you explore the Red Light District of Kamurocho, and learning Crane and Tiger fighting styles helps you defeat various thugs. Judgment has dual audio and subtitles so you can experience it in English and Japanese. This game is truly one of the best I have ever played with its martial arts/street fighting style that is used on your enemies, I absolutely love it! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this game to one & all!

This game is the same great type of game like its similar Yakuza franchise. Instead of playing as Kiryu you are playing as a detective named Yagami. It is not directly related to Yakuza but takes place in the same city as those games. It has hours worth of gameplay with a gritty story and tons of side quests. The added investigative aspects of the game are well implemented as well.

A polished version of the yakuza games . What more can you say if you play the yakuza games except it’s clean story is a lot better lots of twist interns combats even more exciting. If you love mafia stories in Japanese culture than this games for you and don’t forget all the mini games are inside the game which let you get distracted from the real game.

Judgment is a must buy for any Yakuza series fan even though it is a spin-off game. It improves upon many of the elements from the previous Yakuza games while keeping some the same. It has an engaging story and side quests along with familiar game play elements. It also has many unique characters and situations sprinkled throughout each chapter of the game.

I haven't completed the game yet, but Judgment is a great spinoff to the mainline Yakuza games. If you haven't played any of these, they're modern day action RPGs, complete with "random" encounters while roaming the city (less random though, as you can see the thugs and avoid them if you like). But it also has a leveling system/skill tree to dump your points into. Outside of battling you get points for almost everything you do in the world, side quests, eating food, talking to NPCs. I would recommend this game (along with Yakuza 0 since it's a prequel), and it makes the story much more approachable to newcomers, but it still hits all the crazy notes a Yakuza game does, but this one leads with a much more in-depth whodunnit murder mystery. Instead of following the story of a Yakuza gangster, you're following a former lawyer-turned-detective. I'm in the middle of chapter 2 and chapter 1 took my about 3.5 hours long (out of a total 12 I believe), so I expect it will also be quite a long game (if you're looking for something to really stretch your dollar).

judgment mixes the super serious crime drama story with the ridiculous and odd open world of Kamurocho just like the main yakuza games in the series. but since you're a detective it also adds in investigative stuff. the game play is great and the story is very good and will have you hoooked.

For those who are unfamiliar, Judgment is a Yakuza series spinoff that could easily be considered the next installment. It builds off of the new engine from Yakuza 6 and Yauza Kiwami 2, adding in an additional fighting stance, and another new iteration of the famous Kamurocho. What makes these games truly great is the combination of humor and drama, with real actors playing the roles of each major character. It might as well be a long-running TV series turned into a game. The variety of gameplay is staggering as always, with everything from old Sega arcade games to a modern beat-em up to racing drones. The presentation this time is on par with the greatest AAA releases from the biggest budget studios, but the developers do it with a lot less funding. They reiterate on the same areas and concepts and gameplay designs to save on development costs. The downside could be that you may be bored of hanging around the same areas in every game, but somehow it works for them. Maybe it's the fact that it's a real city (Kabukichi) in Japan down to the last detail. The developers had perfected their game formula, in most people's minds, with Yakuza 0. That game was using a very old engine, though. With the new engine, the games took a small step back in some ways, but the potential was there to build into something even greater. Finally, in Judgment, we're seeing it begin to return to full glory. The game features variable difficulty, so there's something for you here even if you want to breeze through the combat. Downsides here are few. You may find some aspects tedious, or you may be sick of Kamurocho by now. But ultimately, even if you just play the game for the story, you're getting a good story that's well acted.

I wasn't even aware that this game was coming out until a few days prior to release here. When I found out that it's a spinoff of the Yakuza series I jumped at it right away, cause I am a huge fan of the Yakuza series since the PS2 days. While this game is way more simplified from the Yakuza series, it still is fun! Bought this game on release day and beat it 4 days later since I was on vacation. The evolution of Kamurocho from the earlier games to Judgment is amazing. The little details like in Yakuza 0 where you use phone booths to save, to now not having phone booths, and the businesses that have changed names from past games to this one. Yagami was a cool character who has depth and I really enjoyed how the story evolved. I personally think that if you are not a huge Yakuza fan, wait for this to go on sale. Regardless though, you will enjoy this title. Sega in my eyes did a great job.

Ryu Ga Gtouku is an incredible game making machine. Their Yakuza series was something I never played before and it was new and fresh. Unique and NEEDED. They only got better then they throw at us this new story that is in the same world as the Yakuza. A spin off if you say. With a crime story court drama. Which is gripping and fun. You just have to try this game. It comes with full English voice acting which is a first since the first Yakuza on PS2. Don't like English voice acting? They have the Japanese voice acting too. Play this Action RPG that looks like Grand Theft Auto, Plays like Yakuza which their new Dragon Engine with graphics that will let you go crazy.

I’ve been a longtime Yakuza (Ryu ga Gotoku in Japan) fan since 2004. The games have been excellent and are finally getting the respect and attention they deserve here in the states. Thank Sega for releasing every Yakuza game on the PS4 now and in the upcoming months. But enough of that. This is the first spinoff, where instead of playing as Kazuma Kiryu, you play as a disgraced attorney turned Private Eye, who is trying to prove the innocence of a Yakuza boss charged with murder. The game is fun, intuitive, and has a gripping story. There simply isn’t anything like it. Just buy it, and see for yourself.

I'll keep this simple, if you love the yakuza games this is another amazing game done by the yakuza developers. It is kamorucho but with a brand new story, characters, plot and some new mechanics. If you dont know about the Yakuza games, this could be a good start. Great action Jrpg's with great stories, lengthy cutscene, a lot of fun mini games and sub stories and activities that dont takethemselves seriously. As a Yakuza game fan, I cant recommend this game enough. My favorite game of 2019. Maybe not for everyone but worth a try nonetheless. Especially if you enjoy japanese culture.

I was already a big fan of the Yakuza series, and this game is made by the same team. It is great to be back in this world of Kamurocho the city in the game, but this time playing from a different perspective. As a detective / lawyer solving cases while investigating the biggest case in town. The game offers loads of content to play with and awesome cut-scenes and storytelling. Hopefully there will be sequels because this one was a whole lot of fun to play.
