A MUST OWN PS3 EXCLUSIVE

The way I ran across Killzone 2 is by playing its demo off of PSN. The graphics were so unreal that I felt obligated to buy this game. While everything in the game looked spectacular, in the beginning I truly minded the controls. They just felt odd and difficult. However, after I changed the default control setting to ALTERNATE CONTROL 2 and increasing X and Y axis movement sensitivity to 75%(controls similar to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare), I JUST LOVED THE GAME. Here are pros and cons about it.
PROS.
SPECTACULAR GRAPHICS: Graphics for this games are just mind-blowing. Attention to detail is to its finest. Just love how the game looks on my HDTV.
WELL DESIGNED LEVELS: Really loved the variety of levels offered in the game. From plain battle field to top of the train. From your own headquarters to enemies fort. JUST LOVED THEM.
UNIQUE FPS GAMEPLAY: This game forces you to duck and cover vs a lot of other games that encourage run and gun type of gameplay.
VARIETY OF WEPONS: While in the beginning you may think this game will have only boring weapons, you will love the guns you will get towards the end. Really don't want to spoil the surprise.
CHALLENGING BOSSES: One thing I find missing in the most FPS games these days are bosses. In this game there are plenty of bosses to fight. Each comes with their unique characteristic. THE FINAL BOSS IS THE BEST.
GREAT VOICE-ACTING AND MIND STIMULATING STORY: Yup nothing to add here. I really liked the monologue you get to hear in the end.
TANKS, MOUNTED GUNS and ???: Other than playing as a foot soldier, you also get to operate tank, mounted guns to destroy flying ship and more. Really don't want to spoil it for you.
EPIC MULTIPLAYER: While I am not big on multiplayer, I have to say this game has pretty awesome multiplayer. Like other FPS shooter multiplayers these days you have battle different modes and character classes. Engineer class is the one that I found quite unique and interesting.
GREAT RE-PLAYABILITY: The single player mode is diverse enough that you will be encouraged to play this game over again. If you are a trophy/achievement lover, you will certainly play this game over at least two more times. Plus, the multiplayer truly prolong the life of this game.
CONS.
DEFAULT CONTROLS: Default controls are simply horrible. As I mentioned in the opening, changing the controls to ALTERNATE 2 and increasing X and Y axis sensibility makes this game playable. Nevertheless, every time you go into close up view, there is a twitch which makes the aiming quite difficult.
10 FEET TALL PROTAGONIST: This is a sarcasm. It is extremely irritating in the game that even after you take cover, it is possible to get shot. Makes it seem like you are a very tall person.
RATHER SHORT SINGLE PLAYER: It still took me about 7-9 hrs to finish the game, but I wish the game was longer.
CONCLUSION: Contrary to the cons I mention, THE GAME IS FUN AND VERY ENJOYABLE. The experience you will get is unique and it will want to make you come back for more. Now that the prices are lowered, IT IS A MUST OWN.

Since I've owned the PS3, I've really been waiting for a game that truly challenges the hardware. Finally, Killzone 2 steps up to the plate. The graphics do live up to the hype. Just look at the back grounds on any level and you will see an amazing attention to detail. It is really top notch.
The single player offline mode is fairly typical for most military shooters. Somebody gives you an order, you do it, killing all the way. There is not much freedom to wander around the amazingly beautiful environments. There are no puzzles to solve except how to successfully kill a group of enemies.
Speaking of enemies, the AI is very intelligent. You cannot camp the enemy and wait for them to charge you. If you sit in a spot too long, they'll toss nades to flush you. If you shoot at them, they take cover. When they shoot at you, they are pretty accurate. Actually, the game is really quite difficult.
In fact, the difficulty is my only real beef with the single player campaign. I've played FPS games since Wolf3D. Thousands of hours into HL,HL2, CS, DoD, COD, etc. and I can say without a doubt this game is by far the hardest I've played. I'm not even ashamed to say I couldn't beat Radec on the "hard" level. I couldn't even get to him past the hordes of Helghast. I tried for an hour and quit. I mean seriously, why make it that hard? Or at least release some cheat codes so I can see the ending. I also died about 50 times on one part of the train mission. It just gets extremely frustrating after a while.... A lot of survival is just plain luck. I suggest playing it on "easy" or "medium". Why torture yourself?
The multiplayer is fast and furious. Finally, a game where I don't have to wait 3 minutes to play again after I die... the "Counter Strike" style games are old and tired (COD4, I'm looking at you...). KZ2 lets you respawn after 6 seconds to get you right back in the action. There are massive 16 vs 16 battles in large areas. Depending on the server, you will play multiple objectives. For example, the first "game" will be to protect an objective. Then after a while it change and order you to assassinate a certain member of the enemy team. Then it may change to capturing and holding multiple areas. And there are more. This definitely keeps each map fresh. The level up system is basically COD4. There are also classes like medics that you can choose from. Many people love the "squad" system that puts you with a group of buddies if you so choose. That way you and your friends can all chat and kill close together in those huge maps. My only gripe is that the maps are often cluttered with junk to get caught on. I wish they were cleaned up a little more and not so realistic.
Graphics are still amazing in online play. Oh, and I saw NO LAG even on huge maps with 32 players. AND my PS3 is on a wireless connection. I was VERY impressed. Also, people have complained about the controls. I have no problem with them. You can adjust the sensitivity to your liking.
Extremely fun. 5 stars. COD4 is on my shelf now.

this game is great, and fun. the graphics are awsome and the pyhsics are great. this game however is alot different control scheme wise from call of duty. once you get used to the controls and put aside the 10000 hours of call of duty controls programmed in your head it is great.
the story is good and better than most games. no corny plots or stupid characters. the job system is a good thing in multiplayer and mixes things up a bit. there are also alot of trophies, which most seem easy to acheive and realistic, nothing to demanding or complicated unlike some games.
the game is not a cod clone, it is its own game with a cool story and neat characters and awsome sound and graphics. worth purchasing, and it should be enjoyable to most FPS fans.

Killzone 2 lives up to all the hype it has created over the last 4 years, and emerges as one of the best FPS games of all time. From the opening cinematic you will realize this game is something more. Visually, it provides a benchmark that future games will be measured against for quite some time. The storyline moves along quickly and keeps you interested, and while the story of KZ2 combined with that of the first game might seem to take a little too much from the 1st and 2nd Iraq wars, they maintain enough originality and character to make them stand fervently on their own two feet. The controls for the game are tight and very solid, although you will find that out of the box, the looking and turning respond slower than you might be used to from games such as Call of Duty and Resistance. Thankfully those settings can be adjusted rather easily, but its something to be aware of. The AI of enemies performs very well, and a battle will never be played out the same way twice. Sometimes they are a little too good, however; you might be aiming your sniper rifle at an enemy soldier with his back to you who is oblivious to your presence, and as soon as your crosshairs come over their head they immediately duck or move out of the way, which can be frustrating at times. The AI of friendly players proves to be lackluster at many times. While Killzone 2 is not a squad based game, and you don't have control over a partner's action, you often find yourself working side by side with one of the 3 other members of Spec-Ops Squad Alpha. Many times this AI controlled soldier will either be in your way, or simply stand in the open taking enemy fire until they die; there is a very easy revive option though. Going back on the graphics, the environments of the planet Helghan are simply jaw dropping. The producers of the game have managed to create an atmosphere that is futuristic and foreign to Earth yet still believable, and they've done it in such rich detail that you will never stop to question it - not that you'll have time too anyway, as intense as the action is. Every detail has been worked down to the T, you'll find yourself reloading your weapon just to see the animation again or show it off to a friend. The overall length of the game may seem a little bit short for R:FoM players, and about average for CoD fans - 10 to 12 hours give or take. This is made up by a very in depth - yet fast paced online multiplayer mode.
Look me up on PSN by my review nickname - see you on the battlefield!

Best FPS To ever come out

Let me say one thing for sure, this is the best FPS to ever hit gaming. This masterpiece is being compared to all FPS's being released before March 2010, (late review). Killzone 2 just has those assets in every way. Visuals are unmatched to almost everygame with a few exceptions. The detail is incredible and even shocking, because many games these days are looking so great, but very very rare to see one as detailed as Killzone 2. I really can't describe how great Killzone 2 is because it is just so amazing how Guerilla Games nailed the visuals, great gameplay, online etc. The online in Killzone 2 will in fact be up there with some of the best Online games around. Warzone, which is basically the online in Killzone 2 which is a compilation of many game modes is an amazing idea that was excecuted so well , and everytime the game switches to a new mode (BodyCount (Team Deathmatch), Capture and Hold, etc.) is so seemless as if you had never knew it had changed. Unique gameplay such as being able to literally attach yourself to walls or pillars is great because it makes combat have a new depth to it, as well as making it more fun and interesting to see exactly where you can shoot your enemies by focusing your weapon in a certain area. The campaign is around 10 hours to complete and the story is actually very solid, and very, very fun to play through. You could even say the campaign itself is incredible. Just a true mastepiece, great job Guerilla Games. By the way, weapons are fantastic.
Visuals- 9.7/10
Gameplay- 9.8/10
Story- 9.5/10
Online- 9.7/10
Fun-9.8/10
Overall-9.7/10

This game has set a new bench marks in many ways for games ( read shooters) on consoles. It looks beautiful, the sound (surround) is amazingly well done and the game brings some new things to FPS such as a real cover system, and new kinds of Multiplayer features.
For those complaints on this site: the "slowdown" some talked about is not real slow down it is a hiccup where the game loads the next part of the level and sets your save point instead of showing you a loading screen I found it actually quite nice to see such a feature. The "input lag" is from people to used to HALO and COD4 the game mechanics work a bit more realistic here, that is including iron sight usage and slower gun movements ( and it will get of target easy when you keep the trigger down..short bursts are better) If you do want faster movements you can simply go in to the controller settings and up the sensitivity. and for those who have trouble with the controls you can pick a COD 4 style layout. It just removes you ability to user the new cover system but in multiplayer this is disabled anyway.
The AI is actually outstanding in most places ( though i admit not everywhere) but you get the see the most of it in action when you put ramp the difficulty up. When you hang back they will engage, when you march forward they will fall back and dig themselves in. etc.
I have not noticed All enemies shooting at me such as in the COD series ( which I love btw) so that is NOT a problem.
level design is unique and at first you think it is the same old gray brown you see so often untll you start really looking around during quite moments. There are so many subtle details it is amazing.
Let me just close by saying that the Multiplay is wonderful you get full scale battles that can last over 30 minutes, there are changing goals and missions throughout this time and teamwork is key to victory. In the beginning you can feel like a noob and want to quit..dont keep with it and as soon as you unlock your first new skill you will get addicted to leveling up.
Great game .. Love it will always recommend it, though I agree it might not be for everyone.

the graphics are simply amazing. Its better than any other shooter or ps3 game i have. Everything looks so real. But its not all about graphics, gameplay matters too. I'll try to be brief. There is Campaign or single player mode, Skermish, and Warzone. All modes are awesome. Skermish is like the offline multiplayer but instead of you and 61 other people its you and 31 bots, despite of this it is really fun. Warzone is the online one. Its like death matches in any other shooting game. But you know how in Halo or what not you choose one kind of game whether its death match or capture the flag or something? This ramdomly chooses between like 6 different tasks which means your always doing something different every 2-7 minutes which is fun. You would start out just killing people, then they might tell you to take over an area or assassinate someone, or steal a radio transmitter and bring it back to your base (like capture the flag), and so much more. This game has in my opinion has absoltlely the best first person campaign you can ask for. You hold 3 weapons and gernades. You hold a pistol surprising good with infinite ammo, a more powerful gun, and a blade. There are macine guns that can work close and far range, then shotguns that which work extremely well and look present day time, flame throwers, and the amazing electric gun are also available. Sorry i couldn't sum this up really fast but there is just so much in this game and cannot be reviewed so fast its totally worth the money and best buy makes sure that its given to you in perfect condition case and game. Well ill sum this up for you its simply an amazing awesome shooter and if you a have a ps3 you MUST get this game

An absolutely amazing game from a technical standpoint. Graphics and sound are simply unbelievable. Story is good though not outstanding. Gunplay is superb with every bullet feeling special. Enemies are nicely varied with the best AI that I've encountered in any game. Levels are nicely done and you are left wanting more by the end. Truly simulates war in a wartorn environment.
This game is NOT for kids. It is very violent and vulgar. Characters seem to swear for no reason just to do it when it is uncalled for. Player movement can be difficult to get used to but when you do you will not be able to go back to shooters with unrealistic character movement.
An excellent experience I would definitaly recommend to mature gamers.

Like the title, one of the best games ever. The graphics are insane, the lighting throughout the game is amazing to add to the realness. The pre movie to each level are the same as the gameplay graphics, thats how good they are. The gameplay is awesome, tons of shooting and getting cover, and the levels get better and better as you play. Your teamates are smart, and we'll help you out, and you enemy is smart too, your not just flying through a level shooting at idiots. This game is one of the best games Ive ever played, from N64 to ps3. The only downfalll is that the aiming is kind of slow, but you get use to it once you start playing, ive mastered the aiming now. You need to get this game, you will be glad you did. This game shows the true potential of what the ps3 is capable.

This is one of the best shooters out there. Nothing even comes close. I bought this and both Resistance titles on the same day. Played the 1st resistance for about a week and got bored. Played resistance 2 for a week as well and hated it. Put in KZ2 and was instantly enthralled. The graphics are top notch, The controls are very responsive. And to those who complain about having to use R3 to zoom you can customize your controls and set L1 to zoom which is very easy to do and makes it alot easier to play. Offline the story mode is alright. But where this game really shine is online. With 5 different missions to choose from you can either set up a game and play any mission(s) you want and set which weapons you want. Or play an existing game online. You can play against people from all over the world so that makes for some interesting chatter. And with online chat with a headset you have a squad specific channel to talk to just your squad members Which is nice for planning strategies. I've been playing online for about 5 months now and have yet to experience any lag. All around I would say it is well worth the $30.00 for it new.

""They will know......Helghan belongs to the Helghast." Play the game on Elite and you'll see what Visari meant by that.
At the very beginning, Killzone 2 shows you an introduction explaining both sides of the war. The Helghast defending their home land, and the ISA invading them to finish what was started on Vekta (the first Killzone). It shows your main character preparing to leave Vekta before he fights the battle on Helghan.....on the back cover, it says "In and out in a month, they said. Morale at an all-time low.....they couldn't be more wrong"....
Even though games sometimes can't capture ones attention just by what's on the back, it's almost like they WANT you to see how wrong they really were. At the very beginning, your craft makes a crash landing on a beach, already fighting for your life, AND THE GAME JUST STARTED! Depending on your difficulty setting (if it's your first time, I HIGHLY recommend either Recruit (easy) or Trooper (a bit above easy) ). Later on in the game, you're traveling all over Helghast, in what seems to be an endless chase for Radec (Visari's commander) and Visari himself (Emperor of Helghan). Even though I have shared some of the game's story line, don't think I'm going to spoil it for you.
When you first try to look with the right analog stick (default settings), you WILL notice a delay. It's not a bad disc and it's not your controller. They built that into the game to give the feeling of the gun being heavy. It actually works pretty well, and if you're like me, you'll get used to it quickly in the campaign. However, I still do wish they didn't put a delay on EVERYTHING. I'd hit Square twice just to reload, and sometimes, hitting X once won't allow the character to jump, but that's only online, and the room most likely was laggy.
Where the game REALLY shines is its online feature. From Bodycount (team deathmatch), Assassination (killing a certain player on the other team before time runs out), Search & Retrieve (finding a speaker and returning it to a destination...kind of like Capture the Flag), Capture and Hold (taking territory and holding it from your enemy for a certain amount of time), and Search & Destroy (planting bombs at a specific target and waiting for them to blow up), there's ALOT to do in this game.
Ribbons such as Head Fetish (getting 10 headshots in a game) keeps the game rolling. Getting eight ribbons of the same kind, such as eight Head Fetish ribbons, gives you a medal, in which you unlock special items/abilities for achieving them. Being a medic and reviving people 5 times in a match, 8 different times, gives you the ability to throw down health packs that can heal you, your teammate, or even an enemy if they're lucky enough to find one. If you heal someone 5 times in a match, 8 different times, you can use that ability with any other badge. For example, say you're a Sabetour (badge in which you're disguised as an enemy to fool your enemies), and instead of C4 mines, you want to have the ability to heal yourself. If you get the C4 medal AND the one for the health packs, you can mix and match them.
It seems complicated, but it's MUCH easier in the game. Ranking up in the game online allows you to gain different badges. You can be a medic, an engineer (build turrents), Tactician (throw spawn grenades so teammates can spawn in other places), or a Scout once you reach the highest rank (Scout being the sniper). Even once you're finished with that, there's always something else to do.
If you're good enough, the game even rewards you with the Special Honor ribbon, for being either the top 10, 6, 3, or 1% of players for that week (the highest I've ever gotten was 3%).
There's just so much good with this game, I could write a research paper about them.
But now about the "bad". Depending on who's hosting, the games can be VERY laggy. Two shots to kill someone....with a headshot...really??? Me shooting people five times, only to die with two bullets.....yeeeaaaa. Little

The campaign was much more enjoyable than I first thought it would be. The graphics are amazing especially in HD. The online is way better than I though it would be. The levels are designed wonderfully and the classes and earnable stripes and badges are keeping me hooked.
The feel of the game is not as smooth as a game like Call of Duty and the controls are a little different. I kept playing and realized the feel is perfect for the game and once I got used to the controls they are quicker to use and Call of Duty games.
I am playing it more than Resident Evil 5 and my Sports games.

Playing the demo of this EPIC shooter is all you need to fall in love with it. This game probably has the best next gen graphics of any title out today. Most of the wepons in this game are worth trying out, i say most because the flame thrower and shotgun are very limited in range and most of the levels the enemy is at a medium range or farther. The effects in this game are just as good as the graphics and I liked the fact that you face a fierc enemy who wants to rip your head off, unlike halo where you fight pink and red aliens in a cartoonish enviorment. This game is great online. There only downfall is that you cant customize wepons, as in you cant put differint sites on wepons.also the campainge is short, but you will want to keep playing it over and over. other than that this game has it all.

This is by far my favorite FPS of this console generation. Period. I've put dozens of hours into Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, Rainbow Six, and many others but none of them was quite everything I wanted in my perfect shooter. Killzone has enough realism that it's beleivable and very satisfying but it's not so much that it's a pain. You won't be limping after a bullet to the leg or anything like that. The graphics are the best on consoles bar none. The Campaign is awesome. It's a blast despite the constant irritations that are Rico and Natko, two of your teammates. Idk what is with Guerilla killing off all the cool people in this series and leaving the annoying ones but oh well that doesn't matter in multiplayer which is generally lag-free and awesome. I won't even describe it. All i'll say is if you love console FPS's and want a refreshing break from the Halos and Call of Dutys out there buy this game.

This game may be the best shooter on any console today. The campaign is epic. It took nearly 9 hours to complete, so it has a lot of depth. Be warned that this game can be very difficult, but once you get the hang of the controls, it is a TON of fun. The online play is absolutely amazing. The graphics in this game are second to none. I would say it is the best looking game on a console (tied with Uncharted 2). Overall I would give this game a 9.5/10!! GET IT NOW FOR CHEAP!

The Good: The Graphics are AMAZING, Multi-Player Maps are Very Good, Game Modes are good and have good rotation between Maps. The Bad: No Co-Op, Game Difficulty is far to easy for experienced FPS unless played on hard or higher, expect to get around 10 hrs of play like this, Controls do not respond effectively unless turned way up !!! Overall this is a must have for FPS PS3 Owners because of the Multiplayer & Graphics, Maps. I would not buy a PS3 solely for this game, but it helps !!! The Graphics & Multiplayer I would rate a 5/5, The Maps I would rate 4/5, The Campaign I would rate 3/5 because of no Co-Op and the difficulty, the Controls I would rate a 3/5 because of the sensitivity adjustments that are necessary otherwise it would be a 4/5 because the layout is Okay & easy to learn. Overall I would rate the game 4/5 as-is.
