Really enjoyed this. I’ve never played the game, I bought this as a blind buy. Really good animation and the 4K looks fantastic.

So I had read the rotten tomatoes reviews on this movie, and was *very* cautions about buying it. I received a gift card for the holidays, and since the movie was priced at around 15$ I basically had no reason not to buy it, aside from the poor reviews. At such a low price, I went ahead, and got the movie, and I am very much glad I did. I will admit, I wouldnt say this is the best movie of all time, but it certainly places at quite the high rank. I must say the rotten tomatoes reviews are horribly written. I have no clue how anyone could be confused by this movie or feel it is laden with "incoherent" story points, it didnt leave me "scratching my head" nor did my "eyes cross." The movie made perfect sense, was easy to follow, and had a gripping story. As you watch the movie you can see the emotion in the characters faces, and feel their burdens. The story is filled with fantastic internal, and "monarchist" conflicts. Not only are the visual effects remarkably beautiful, the action, very entertaining, and the story gripping and engaging, but the world with which all of these events take place, is quite stunning and filled with a unique mysterious familiarity. Magic, and Kingship, landing right in a massive modern city! I personally played the video game Final Fantasy XV before watching this movie, and in my own opinion, feel that is the ideal sequence I would suggest experiencing these wonderful pieces of entertainment. (Game first, then movie.) I highly suggest Kingsglaive to anyone, as well as Final Fantasy XV. Especially if you own a PS4, even if you dont, I highly doubt you could be disappointed! Both are a grand adventure, of goodness, choosing the right thing, and staying true to yourself.

It's difficult to "review" a movie like Kingsglaive because it doesn't exist in a void. Is Square-Enix's latest film a great movie in-and-of itself? Not especially. The plot can be difficult to follow. The massive action sequences overshadows any attempts at storytelling. The main character lacks complexity, so it's difficult to care about him or his fate. With those negative points made, it must be said that Kingsglaive is ultimately a success. When you boil the movie down, it has 2 reasons for existing: 1) create hype for the proper Final Fantasy XV game, and 2) establish lore and backstory that will further be explored in the Final Fantasy XV game. Kingsglaive achieves these goals with aplomb. The film introduces characters and facts about the world in such a way that creates more questions and expectations than answers - and the answers will likely arrive with the game in November. Use of magic in this setting is tied to the line of kings . . . but how? why? and how does it all mesh with the fate of the world? Its inklings of deeper lore like this that kept me glued to the screen despite the film's overall flaws. It's another fun treat to play "spot the reference" if you're an oldshool Final Fantasy fan. Monsters, classic summons, subtle nods in armor and machine designs. This movie is filled with bits and bobs cobbled together from the history of the series, and it's a delight to see.

I picked up a copy of this movie the day Final Fantasy xv came out and watched prior to starting the game (which is the recommended thing to do.) I was completely surprised by how well the film was produced. The music is amazing and it really sets the mood for scenes. The visual effects and cgi are next level. I mean there are points through out the film where i really couldnt tell if there is some live action sequences intermingled with the cgi. voice acting is all around. the story is a bit confusing, and it ends with a big build up with little to no real resolution at the end. Over all this movie isnt a stand alone feature rather it is a piece of a bigger whole and acts much more like an intro cinematic for the game. That said, if you dont care about story and want to see some fantastic eye candy, then go ahead and pick it up.

I am not a huge gamer, but I love the Final Fantasy game series. I had high expectations for Final Fantasy XV, and in anticipation of spending hours on my PS4, I purchased the tie-in movie for some additional background knowledge. Was it worth it? Sorta. Firstly, the movie is BEAUTIFUL! I showed (non violent) clips to my young daughters and they truly thought the CG-created characters were real. I was almost just as easily fooled! Sound quality is just as amazing. The production values really are bar none. This, however, does not necessarily make for an entertaining two hours. The plot itself is rather convoluted, seeped in heavy mythical lore that requires close attention and sometimes pausing the movie to mentally recap the story. Regardless, for fans of the series, anime fanatics, or those movie buffs who love eye-candy, this is a pretty safe buy. For all others, consider skipping.

    An Epic and Heart-Wrenching Fantasy

Kingsglaive: FFXV is the newest Final Fantasy film that starts the saga of Final Fantasy XV, of which continues into the newest game. The movie focuses on the beginning of the war against King Lucis and the crystal at the heart of the empire, which the Kingsglaive are sworn to protect, along with the King. Now, if you're not acquainted with the series, it's okay. You can still watch the film and be blown away with the action, the voice and motion capture performances, and the mind-blowing cinematography through the work of CG. I'm amazed there aren't better reviews of the movie, but it may be due to the fact that it ties into a video game instead of being it's own entity, which is why the first Final Fantasy film, Spirits Within has the best critic rating. Still, this is a must-see, and a must-own for FF fans or hardcore film nuts. One of the most beautiful films of the year.

For those wondering what the deal with this movie is, it's actually a prequel of sorts to the game Final Fantasy XV. However, it's done in a way that you can enjoy both this movie and the game independently from each other, though they complement each other and you will get more out of this if you play it. By itself though, it's very entertaining. The story isn't going to blow you away, but the action and animation are great, with decent voice acting. It's basically a conspiracy thriller mixed with anime-ish fantasy action. For fans of the Final Fantasy series, there's even a couple of cameos of creatures from previous FF games, and both of them are done in a great way. If you're not a fan of the games, nor of over-the-top anime-style action, this probably won't change your mind, but if you are, I'd say give it a watch.

I already pre-ordered the deluxe addition of FF15 that comes w/ this movie. But it's hard to pass up a good look steelbook case, plus it was on sale. Plus it comes w/ the anime segments only available to stream on youtube. I saw this in the theater and thought it was an OK movie. The CG was amazing, but the action was a tad too over the top to me and some were hard to follow. It's also hard to shake the image of Aaron Paul and Lena Headey as Nyx the main character and Lunafreya, even thought they did a pretty good job. I thought Lena Headey sounded a bit too old as Luna though since I got used to her as the famed Cercei from King of Thrones. So it's good in the game she would have a younger sounding actress. The King voiced by Sean Bean was also good, but again would have diff VA in the game. Overall this made me look forward to the game even more, 11/29 can't come soon enough.

I have viewed several recent CGI movies made by Japanese studios and Squaresoft's visuals on this movie is so far still the best. Above the likes of Space Pirate Captain Harlock and Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary. The movie itself is a nice story primer for the Video Game that it ties into and should appeal to most Final Fantasy fans. There are some welcome extras on the disc. It was nice that there are so many subtitle language options available too since Chinese is my family's main language and they would not have been able to enjoy this film with me if there was just the English audio track.

For those who may not know, Kingsglaive is an animated prequel to the soon to be released Final Fantasy XV. It is best to look at it as such since not all will be answered in this movie. However, this being tied to a game should not deter others from watching this movie, as it is very well done. Between the intense action and the beautiful scenery of the surrounding world, the graphics look amazing, almost life-like. When it is over, you are left wanting more (my brother literally bought the game after finishing watching it, and he's not too big on rpgs beside Skyrim). So yes, I do recommend you give this movie a watch.

I never saw Final Fantasy Spirits Within, I saw "Advent Children" and thought that was okay. I didn't go into this expecting much, I hadn't even really heard of it until near FFXV's release and ended up purchasing it alongside the game. I was beyond impressed with this movie. All the voice actors did a great job, the action was impressive, the CGI was amazing, the characters are likable (for the most part), the story kept me hooked the whole way through. I don't think you should miss this if you plan on playing FFXV, but even on it's own right it's a great movie.
