    Unrepairable after 6 years

We loved this refrigerator until it died after 6 years and is unrepairable. After a 6-week nightmare with Whirlpool customer service they offered to sell us a replacement for higher than Best Buy's price! Avoid these models, the repair techs had nothing good to say about them.

    Avoid This Product

Made by Whirlpool, this refrigerator has a known problem. DO NOT BUY THIS REFRIGERATOR The Whirlpool and KitchenAid french door refrigerators have a known problem that causes the compressor and coils to freeze over. You will have a repairman out every four months to defrost the cooling system with a heat gun, which does not solve the problem. The issue is that the sensor is too close to the cold air vent so it cannot tell when the compressor snd coils are freezing over until it is too late. And unlike nearly every other refrigerator on the planet, it does not have a heating element to remove the ice once it detects that it has frozen. It just turns off the cooling system—but not long enough for the ice to actually melt. And then it starts the cycle over. So your food just rotates between between freezing and spoiling until someone manually defrosts it. And worst, Whirlpool refuses to fix the problem. They just send someone out to defrost your system until your warranty expires and then walk away. There is even a class action lawsuit about this issue. So buy anything else.

    Complete Piece of Trash

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Run Away as fast as you can. We have owned two of these in both our actual home and investment property. Both units started losing control boards in the first 2 years and each time you replace one you get about 6-8 months out of a new board which costs around $350-$400 per replacement. Two different units bought within 1 year of each other and both had to be replaced totally within 4 years. Don't waste your time or money on this expensive piece of trash.

    Don't Buy

Bought this in Oct 21, 2016 from BestBuy. The store and sales staff are great but this unit is trash. Previously had a Kitchenaid refrigerator for 16 years. Two months after purchase had to have the freezer door gasket replaced - took two visits and two weeks. Had to replace compressor in Aug 2018 - had to wait 5 days for first repair visit and took two visits and two weeks. Unit totally failed Sep 22, 2018 - nothing works except control panel. Kitchenaid service is hard to contact and work with. The website link to submit a comment to Kitchenaid does not work. Every repair takes at least 2 visits and over two or three weeks.

    Don’t get it !

Do not get this fridge ! KitchenAid knows something is definitely wrong with it and yet they keep making and selling them . Biggest mistake getting it . It leaks every single day and the space under drawers collects water and ice . It has leaked on my floors ruining my wood and went all the way down to my basement. What a waste of money . Last tech said it needs to be replaced because water is leaking and it’s not going in the pan where it’s supposed to . Last time I wiped the water from under the drawers there was mold in the back . I wasn’t surprised but who wants mold near the food they have . Save yourself a huge headache. We have only had it for a few years .

    Worst refrigerator ever

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This unit is flawed beyond description. Ours is two years old, and has been serviced and repaired, yet the problems still persist. There are design flaws, like the ice dispenser, whose storage unit is on the door: freezes and thaws over and over; it has now burned out the dispenser motor. As I write this, the French door freezer is frozen shut; it has been off since this morning, and I still can't pull it open. Our previous Amana bottom-freezer unit is still working for the family we gave it to, after 19 years ... has never been worked on.

    Obsolescence

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Warning: do not purchase this refrigerator unless you plan to buy a replacement in 4 years or less. Four years of use in my home and this refrigerator is now just a four thousand dollar icebox. Alarms every 20 minutes and the ice maker doesn’t work and the selector for the middle left drawer doesn’t work. I am highly disappointed. I purchased this refrigerator because of the Kitcheaid brand but now I will not be purchasing their products in the future.

I am about to have to replace all of the computer boards for a SECOND time... It is pretty but not worth the trouble. If you still buy it, get the 5 year warranty, so they will replace the parts. I had all the boards replaced about a year ago. Now the interior lights are out, the fridge is resetting again, and the ice and water dispenser aren't working again. Too expensive to not break twice in less than three years.

    $3500 HUNK OF JUNK!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

So I loved this fridge's aesthetic but we're 3 years in and I had a repair guy out here and he said "I can fix it but it's just going to break again." First the led lights are flickering on and off. Now it's leaking water from the middle of the fridge into the freezer so it won't close. It's a moldy nightmare. If you still want to buy it because it's pretty, get the SUPER EXTENDED WARRANTY and prepare to be disappointed. I'm out 3500 3 years in. SO LAME!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We purchased this fridge and got to enjoy it for 16 days before we started to notice that it was not keeping cold. We called in for service on the warranty and a tech was able to come a few days later. It's a freon leak apparently and the parts are out of stock. No ETA on when they may be coming back in stock. So now we have to go buy a mini-fridge for $100 to use until then. I should have save myself the $3900.

    Junk

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Pure junk. It has a nice design and layout. Unfortunately ours is only two years old and the ice maker has been replaced twice. The refrigerator also intermittently stops working and then starts again when we cycle the circuit breaker only to stop again at a random time. Appliance repair people do not know how to fix it as the problem is intermittent. Unfortunately, we decided this week to replace it which is a real shame considering that it costs over $4000.

We LOVED this for 2 years, then the electrical gremlins started at about 2 years and 2 weeks. I contacted Best Buy and they suggested that I contact Kitchen Aid, which was useless. This keeps powering off, ice machine stops and starts working. Somehow we are able to turn off power for a couple of minutes and it works again. DO NOT BUY!!!

Beware Worst refrigerator to buy. For the amount of money we paid you would expect a fridge this expensive to last more that 1.5 years. Thank god for the warranty we purchased. If I could give it a negative stars i would. Want to purchase another to keep all the appliances the same. Just not sure if I should try another one again.

We have had this fridge for about 3-4 years and it’s close to just being replaced. We have had ice maker issues and are now having to replace the evaporator fan and defrost thermostat (over 400 bucks with labor). I’ve never seen such an expensive but finicky appliance. I’ve had entry level fridgidares be more reliable. Stay away!
