Here's how I look at it. I have had several iPod docking speaker units in the past. And eventually through wear and tear or for whatever reason, they will one day not work. The primary culprit is the dock connector will come loose and render the unit useless. For what it would cost to repair it, you might as well buy a new one. My beloved JBL Radial went to the electronic graveyard after 4 years. The reason being a loose dock connector. I miss the JBL for the wonderful sound it produced. I also miss the $300 I paid for it. Keep in mind, I don't beat on these units. I take care of my stuff. But inserting and removing the iPod often, some times on a daily basis, will take its toll on a docking speaker unit. So...for me, I look for quality sound at a reasonable price. Now that Best Buy put the Klipsch iGroove SXT on sale for $119, I had to grab it. The iGroove is small and conservatively stylish. But don't let it's size fool you. This unit delivers a nice, accurate, balanced sound. It can fill a room with sound without being overbearing or screeching. I see others have compared it to the Bose unit but they are both two different animals. The Bose has a warmer, thick smooth sound while the iGroove has a brighter, crisp detailed sound. If they were wines, the Bose would be a Chardonnay and the iGroove would be a Pinot Grigio. I am not saying the iGroove has not bottom end. There is a bass presence but it's not in your face. It's there and it sounds natural. But you will hear a more nuance sound. On a live recording, I can hear someone in the audience sneeze where in my JBL Radial it was never there. That's how detailed the iGroove. In short, this unit more thans meets the more expensive units. I use my iGroove for background music, for private listening and it handles all types of music...jazz, folk (actually real good for acoustic music), classical and rock. At high volumes, it does show some disortion but you won't be screaming to talk to someone. It's not a wimp, but it is not made to be a boom box. Instead, it is made to be listen to for the beauty of its sound. The iGroove was designed to provide a rich listening experience and it succeeds on that level and without the $300 price. As many others noted, the remote didn't work out of the box. I did buy a new battery for it and it works beautifully now up to a distance of 15 feet. To be fair, I was torn between the iGroove and Logitech's S715i rechargeable speakers but the Logitech's styling just looked uninspiring and cheap looking. I was impressed with Logitech's soundstage and it does have a rechargeable battery...but the iGroove looks won me over. I found no compatibility problems with my iPod Classic (160gb) nor with my 3g iPhone. The box says it is compatible with the iPod touch 2g. It does come with 5 dock inserts although you can dock your iPod without an insert...but that can hasten any loose dock connecting problems down the road. I use the iPod Classic insert so when that day comes when the iGroove loses its groove, it will be $119 well invested instead of $300 down the drain. But I have a hunch that day is far, far down the road.

First off, I am no audiophile, but, on the other hand, I did a lot of comparison shopping when I bought an MP3 speaker system recently because I really want something with well-balanced sound. I found this Klipsch SXT had surprisingly good bass for such a compact system - very impressive, but the sound in the higher/treble range sounded muffled to me, as if this system was struggling to play the high's or the treble range. I compared this system to the Logitech s715i which at the time of this review is also sold at Best Buy, and I thought the Logitech definitely outperformed the Klipsch, as far as producing more balanced sound, as well as having some other advantages which I will talk about in this review. Also, one frustrating thing I found on this SXT is the iPod dock. Many times I would set my ipod touch into the doc, and I would hear the standard "Pling" that would tell me the ipod had been docked or connected, but when I tried to play the SXT, the iPod had in fact not docked correctly, and I had to either readjust the iPod, or take it off the dock, and then re-dock it again. I found this to be the case over and over again, where it was difficult to get a good connection to the iPod. And, this was after I took off the case off the iPod, and it was still very problematic to dock on the SXT. Also, the dock on the SXT is made flimsy plastic, to the point that when I was docking my ipod (and I was gentle with this) I felt that I had to hold or cradle the SXT dock in one hand, as I was docking the ipod, and all of this made the simple procedure way more difficult than it should have been. In comparison, the Logitech s715i was a breeze to dock my ipod. First off, the dock on the Logitech sits on top of the unit, and is made of much sturdier plastic. Also, it seemed as if every time I plugged in my iPod on the Logitech, it would take on the first try, no problem, and then it was hooked up correctly where I could just enjoy my music. Also, the Logitech's docking mechanism actually can move front to back in a type of hinging movement, which is great if you want to change any settings on your iphone or ipod when it is docked, so that you don't lose connection. This hinging or flexible dock on the Logitech is a great idea, and I wish other manufacturers of these systems would take note of this. The remote on this SXT is great, very easy to use, and had a decent range of 10-15 feet, which is the basic range for remotes in this category. Worked almost every time, when using it across the room. No complaints there. The other issue that I didn't like about this SXT is that right in the middle of the power cord, there's a power brick, which makes unplugging this device and moving it more difficult than other units. Most other units just have the small block adapter right on the plug, which makes them easier to move around. I really liked the styling of the SXT, it is very compact, and has a great look to it. But with all the other issues with it, and comparing it to the Logitech s715i, I returned the Klipsch after just having it a few days, and I am going to keep the Logitech, which seems to be one of the best ipod speakers in this price category. Additionally, one thing I realized while doing some research, if you do have the extra money to spend on these ipod speaker systems, at the time of this review, Best Buy is also selling another system, the Altec Lansing Mix iMT800/810. Yes, the Altec Lansing is in a different price range, but it is so worth it based on the sound quality. From my research, and after reading a lot of reviews on the internet, I would recommend either of these systems. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the Klipsch SXT, and would advise others to pass it by. Hope this helps.

I have read many great (and some sour) reviews of this product. I would like to tread the middle ground here. This dock is not meant to fill your house with rumbling bass or replace your current home theater. This is a very simple system best used in a bedroom, office, hotel or dorm. It is not over loaded with gimmicks or extras you don't need. What this little guy does is excede what you expect from it. I purchased mine while on vacation. I was staying in a hotel and needed a dock so I could listen to music to help me sleep. I considered getting the BOSE but they had sold out. LUCKY ME! I auditioned the system while at Best Buy and thought it sounded nice but once in a more controlled (quiet) environment I was truly pleased with what this system has to offer. It has a nice balanced sound, is VERY easy to use and made a great alarm clock using my iphone. Not to mention it was a great way to charge my phone while keeping it close to me while I slept. While I feel you can make a comparison to the BOSE iDock. For the the PRICE I would say the iGroove BETTER. Coming close to the higher priced docks (in sound quality) but not quite there. Going strictly by sound quality there are a lot of products that sound better. Bose, B&W etc.. But there is NO competition in it's price range. (i paid $150) A side note: This system has a 3.5mm input so it makes a great companion for laptops! Worked very well for movies on my laptop, which has weak speakers. Combine that with compact size and it makes an excellent and easy travel entertainment system! Also the iGroove has a nice solid feel to it, unlike many docks at or around it's price range. While this little Klipsch system might not change you life. For the price it may enhance it! This is a great product for a fantastic price!!!!!!

Ok, So I have had other iPod docks and they were just mediocre. I got the Klipsch on-sale at a price I could not resist, but would have no problem paying 150 for them. Having other Klipsch products, I knew that the company was capable of making an outstanding product. This dock took longer to get out of the box than it did to hook up. I ran an aux. cable out the back input to my laptop and use it for listening to music off the laptop as well as sound for movies, tv shows, etc. The lows on these speakers are incredible, as well as the highs and over-all sound quality (Crisp, detailed, textured, and emotion). With that said, they can blast music extremely loud without distortion and it sounds as good cranked up all the way as it does at 10%. I had doubted it's power at first, having gone from a Klipsch 2.1 system to a single unit, but they perform as well as the bigger 2.1 system. When it comes to the product construction, it is definitely built to last and withstand a little abuse (they were in a backpack in the bed of a truck rolling around for an hour or so). For the remote, it stopped working about 6 months into ownership. You can buy a new one off the manufacturers website for under fifteen bucks. At the end of the day, these knock all the other brands out of the race, yes even B**e which costs 2x as much (previously owned a dock). Hope this helps. Save some money and get these, not the other, high priced, brand!

    The BEST Speakers

When I first bought the Klipsch iGroove SXT, I admit I was having doubts. I thought it wasn't going to be durable, etc...now, six months later, it still sounds as great as it did the first day I bought it. and, being experienced in sound quality, I can tell you right now that it is of the same quality, if not even better, than a pair of Bose speakers. And, despite its rather small size, its music travels far and is loud. The music it makes can fill a whole room. Its price is just unbelievable, and I would urge you to buy it before it becomes of a higher price. Its sound delivers extreme clarity and a very powerful, ear-splitting (in a good way# bass sound. Its remote is also very convenient and durable, but I would recommend to also get an extra set of batteries when you buy it in case. And, for the music blasters out there, its sound does not become distorted after you listen to it loud. Trust me, I do that and it sounds fine. These speakers are by far the best I have ever owned. Did you know that most movie theaters use Klipsch speakers for movies? The Klipsch speakers are also easy to carry with you, they are not heavy, and are easily turned on and off. They have a very wide range of volumes, so you can have it as the volume you like...whatever that volume may be. They also look very appealing, and truly live up to their name: Sexy Tiny #SXT). They are a perfect fit for any room. They are very cool. So don't hesitate, buy them today!

Good Klipsch sound in a small package!

I own the Bose SoundDock and the Klipsch iGroove HG for my Apple iPod. These are the 2 premiere iPod speakers out there! Saying that, not many iPod speakers out there come close to the full quality sound of deep bass & clear highs. With the Bose SoundDock you're getting the best but also the most expensive. You basically get what you pay for in the SoundDock! It has the best complete full sound, great bass & highs. And by far the loudest without distortion! Everything you expect from Bose. Next would be the Klipsch iGroove HG. In low to medium sound levels, the bass is rich and the highs are clear. But if you like your music loud on the higher levels, you'll notice the Klipsch iGroove HG starts to distort. To most people out there, music won't be played that high so this won't be too much of a factor. Now Klipsch came out with this iGroove SXT. It's supposed to be the little brother to the iGroove HG. The sound is exactly like the original iGroove HG but in a smaller package. Bass is rich & the highs are clear! The thing I noticed most was it's not as loud as the iGroove HG. This eliminated the distortion on the higher volume levels which is a good thing, but now the sound doesn't fill up the room like it's big brother did very easily. None the less, the sound is very impressive! Also the price is good. For its size & price, no other iPod speaker system sounds as good. But if you want the best, go with the Bose SoundDock or the original Klipsch iGroove HG if you can still find it around.

I have read some of these reviews about "the bass is not that impressive" or "the sound is ok". Let me tell you something, this thing absolutely rocks! Consider the fact that you are dealing with something so very small, and the drivers are extremely compact, I have not heard ANYTHING that compares to this for the money. I am an avid audiophile and have bought more than $200,000 worth of audio equipment in my lifetime, and I was so impressed with this that I had to write a review. I am thoroughly impressed with the bass response as well as the highs. My mouth fell open when I listened to it in my office. It sounded good in the store, but the store is so huge, you lose a ton of the response. Get this thing in a normal sized room, and it rocks! I have had many, many Klipsch products and this one is no different. They have superior products that hold up over time. This was the best sounding unit that was at the store- including the overpriced BOSE. I laugh at people who pay BOSE prices because they "hear" it is the best. Get a clue and buy this thing!

Huge sound in a small package

This speaker system delivers, as other reviewers have commented, truly wide-sounding, bass-rich audio in a really lightweight and portable design. For 20W of power, the system is loud -- it rocks. I mean, really rocks -- for nowhere near the cost of a Bose SoundDock. It's distortion-free even at incredibly high volumes (both MP3 player volume and speaker system volume). The connectivity's great -- aux input for MP3 players, universal iPod dock for most iPod models with a dock connector -- and there are no synchronization issues to speak of. The S-video out lets you watch video from your iPod on a TV with an S-video input, which is cool, since most HDTVs still have the old S-video jack. The play/pause, track forward and track backward remote functions only work when an iPod is synchronized with the dock, which is a downside for non-iPod MP3 player users. But volume up, volume down and mute work just fine. The remote takes a CR2032 lithium battery, which lasts quite a while. The universal adapters that come with this system really are only J-cup supports whose shapes are designed to fit the shape and thickness of the bottom of an iPod, just to let other viewers know. This is good, though, for keeping your iPod in place while it's docked. Overall, this product is fabulous, like every other Klipsch speaker system.

This little speaker struggles mightily to be a superb performer, and the only thing keeping it from reaching that goal completely is its size. It is just not possible to get really big, accurate sound down in the lower registers from a box of this size (it is very small). Otherwise, the clarity and range of this speaker is outstanding. If you are not a fan of really powerful bass, and just need something that sounds really good at moderate sound levels, this speaker should be adequate for you. It plays loud and has very good presence, but the louder it's played, the more evident its lower range deficiency becomes. I was able to audition it side-by-side with an original Bose Wave Radio and the Bose Sound Dock II, and only then did it sound slightly inferior. Sitting on the desk in my home office playing at background levels, it performed masterfully!

    Best sound for the money

I purchased this for my wife to use in the kitchen. She initially didn't get any sound from her new iPod Touch (3rd gen). Klipsh customer service said it wasn't compatible with her new iPod because the pin count was different. When she told me that, I looked at the specs again online and didn't believe it. I unpacked it, pushed it in, and it worked fine. The sound quality is really excellent for the size. Price is good for the quality/sound. Only remote features are power, volume up/down, mute, and track forward/back. Since we just play it on random or on a playlist, the lack of features is minor to us. Others commented on the somewhat unstable feeling when you push the iPod into the base, and this is true. However, it still works fine, so it doesn't bother us. Overall, I couldn't find another product with comparable sound for the price. Bose and Polk make nice ones with more features, but they're at least double the price. We definitely recommend it.

Great IF you like lots of bass

it doesnt give you the feeling that you are at a concert and I think you'd probably get that feeling more with the Bose ipod speaker which I think I'll trade up to; I'm willing to pay over or nearly double the price for that experience. I went into the sound settings of my ipod and checked 'bass reducer' but the speaker still gives it too much bass albeit w/o distortion and at high volume. They remind me of Grado headphones- great sound but could still do better at studio reproduction. The Klipsch doesn't seem to deliver the detailed sound that I was hoping for. And if you care about the remote, you won't like that it is not a RF meaning that you have to point right dead center of it for it to work. The bottom line is if you are on a tight budget and you are more of a tv snob than a sound snob, you like lots of bass anyhow, then get this speaker. But if detailed sound is what you are after, then fork out the extra cash and get the Bose. It's a one time buy anyhow. These days, a big deal is made out of tv resolution but what about 'sound resolution?

I looked on-line for a really long time to find a good speaker system for the I-pod that I was buying my girlfriend for Valentine's Day. I read all the reviews on many different docks and systems. This one seemed to have great overall ratings so I went with it. Even after all of my research I was skeptical, because it was so small. I have to say that I was extremely impressed with this system. It is very loud and has great sound quality even when it is loud. The only thing that is a flaw at all is that I wish it had an equalizer to adjust the bass and treble. On some songs the bass is too much when it is loud and it sounds a little garbled, but it isn't bad. I would think that it would be hard to find a better dock for the price. I am sure that you could pay a lot more for Bose and get a little better sound. There were a lot of docks in this price range though, and this one definitely exceeded my expectations by far.

This little bad boy is awesome, I bought it for my wife on Christmas Eve, and after spending half an hour I could not decide which one to get at the $150 level. It was either the Klipsch or JBL. After hearing the micro JBL I was not impressed unless you intend not to put the volume to the max, so I thought the bigger JBL's would be better since they are bigger. Unfortunately I was not able to test the speakers at the store, so I took the expertise advise of a Bestbuy salesperson and he told me the Klipsch was a much better sounding speaker than the JBL. Let me tell you, he was right, this speaker was going to be used at my wife's desk at work but after pumping the sound for most of the night when she opened her gift, we decided this toy was staying at home. The bass and clarity is amazing, if you listen to hip hop you may need to reduce the IPOD's bass, but anything else it handled it perfectly. I was not going to pay $299 or $399 for a Bose and I am glad I didn't.

I did some research and figured I was at the right place with this product. The manufacturer is respected, puts out quality products, and it was ranked pretty highly by other users. I was upgrading from an iHome product. At first I thought it was great but after a month I've noticed that the sound quality isn't what it was cracked up to be (even given that it's under $200). The remote doesn't work consistently; you have to be right up on it which defeats the whole purpose of a remote. And the buttons on the product itself are mushy... you have to "move up and down" with the sound buttons to get to the level you want; when you're turning sound down it either doesn't change at all or suddenly nears mute and the opposite when increasing volume. Overall I'm thinking I'll move it to the guest room and buy something else.

All-in-all a great product. I've owned mine for 3 months now and I've put it through everything from contemporary to screamo and dance. This player in a smaller room can come off a little heavy on the bass but will level off perfectly in a larger room (12x14 and larger) and in my opinion sounds even better in a bigger environment. The speakers will need to break in a bit. You may be put off a little at first but let it play and adjust your ipod's EQ settings accordingly. Remember this is a simple plug and play system. No gadgetry. And if it is powered off and you pick up your remote and hit play, it'll turn on and have music playing in about one second. If the power was already on it is even quicker. This player is worth every bit of $150. Lastly, do not compare this with audiophile type systems like Monitor Audio and AAD. It's a $150. Not $4,000. Keep your expectations within reason.

Nice sound and one of the best bass i've ever heard in days, in such a small sized set. Plays ipod the best, better than JBL and Bose. I went into Best Buy wanting to buy JBL Onstage III, but after listening to this beast, I had to ditch the JBL. I bought a stereo jack along with it to connect my Samsung LCD, to which i have PS3 hooked up, and the sound output through this beast is awesome, the built-in subs they just make a whole lotta difference to the quality. The only problem is the remote, its too small, especially for a guy like me with not too small palms, and its too slow sometimes, but not always, and i thought the remote could have had some more functions like switching playlists etc. But all in all a great product and worth it. Gets a FIVER!!!

This this is an amazing purchase, it's actually making me a more avid music listener. My ipod lives on this and every day when I get home I immediately turn it on and it plays all day long. It delivers very clear sound with with nice flat audio levels, you will hear subtle things in your music that you never noticed before. It has just enough bass without being overpowering. What's also nice is that it looks really good. Sound docks can sometimes be flamboyant when they try to look too futuristic, but this one is simple and elegant... it looks go no matter where you put it. The ONLY thing I dislike is that I can't play the radio through it using my ipod nano, only headphones will work.

I shopped for a Bose docking system for my ipod for a long time, but thought is was an expensive item. My kids decided to get me the Klipsch igroove SXT for Christmas. When I opened my gift I was excited to finally have a docking system for my ipod. They said I could take it back and get the Bose if this one didnt work out, but there is no way I would do that after I listened to music on it! It looks great and the sound is even better! I cannot believe you can get this sound for so much less money than the Bose system. I have been recommending the Klipsch system to my friends who are considering the Bose system. I say, "Save the money for your music and get a great system at the same time!"

Purchased this item b/c we needed some music to play at my grandmother's birthday bash..however, we needed the quality to be loud and clear enough to cover a large size clubhouse....well this system did just that, actually one of the attendees thought the music was coming from the speakers in the clubhouse. Hearing that justifies this item and purchase. One note - had to exchange it as the remote control failed within one week after usage. Best Buy was great with the exchange, hassle free and stated if additional problems please return and let us know.

I'm so happy right now because I just bought this product today. :) I've been looking for ipod speakers for a long time cause most of them are way toooo expensive or cheap and bad quality. I finally found this one for $149 plus I got warranty so it totaled up to like $183. I took it home and the sound is sooooo good you can hear it through out my whole entire house. The remote control that goes with it is amazing! and it has a whole bunch of adapters for other ipods so if your friends come over and want to put there ipod nano or ipod video in then it has an adapter for all ipods :) . I definitely recommend this!!
