Customers are saying

Customers appreciate the Kevo Convert Electronic Smart Door Lock for its easy installation process and the convenience of remote locking. They feel reassured by the enhanced security it provides to their homes. However, some users have experienced connectivity issues with Bluetooth, inconsistent performance, and short battery life. There are also concerns about the lack of immediate and free compatibility with Alexa.

The item is an easy install I'll give it that, ease of use on the other hand, not so much. In the time it took to open the app, wait for device to connect ad finally unlock, it would have been quicker to walk to the back yard and get the spare key to open the door.

I got so fed up with trying to get this Kevo that I wound up returning this to the store. The app was buggy and was impossible to set up. It was obviously developed in a rush with minimal testing and QA.

This works very well, does jam on occasion. I’d prefer to have a way to unlock it without my phone or key but it’s great for what it is.

    Room for Improvement

I have spent a lot of time researching and trying out different smart locks. I have tried the August Smart Lock and Kevo Touch-To-Open Smart Lock and Kevo Convert. Aesthetically, I prefer the Kevo design over the August design. Functionally, I prefer August for four reasons: 1. I own two homes. I would like to use one account to control the locks in both homes. The August account permits you to do so. The Kevo account allows you to control only one house. If you want to control two houses, you need to have two different accounts and sign in and out of them. 2. For remote access, each August smart lock works with a small cubic hub that plugs directly into the wall near the lock. The hubs are sold separately. August also sells a lock/hub combination. For remote access for Kevo locks, you need to purchase one Kevo Plus hub that needs to be hard-wired to to your router (and plugged into the wall with an AC cord). I prefer the small stylish August hub cubes that do not need to be hard-wired to the router. 3. August locks have an optional feature where they will automatically unlock when you are near with your phone. With the Kevo Touch-To-Open lock, you need to touch the lock or use the key fob (sold separately). With the Kevo Convert lock, you need to use either the phone app or key fob (sold separately). 4. The August app tells you when the lock is locked and unlocked manually and remotely. The Kevo app just indicates when the lock is locked and unlocked. It does not indicate whether it is done manually or remotely. August and Kevo are both good locks. It just depends on the features you are looking for.

    Don't Waste Your Money

This was a gift, and the giver lost the receipt, otherwise it would have gone back to the store. What a sad effort from Kwikset. After a fairly easy installation my experience has been on a steady downhill course. Says the lock is jammed when it isn't, says locked when it's not, operation is hit-or-miss even when standing in front of the door, does not work with Alexa or Siri, cannot remote operate unless you shell out an additional $99. On the rate occasions it does work, it is soooooo slow I'm out of the car, unloaded the trunk, up the steps, and have my key out before it grinds and whirrs the lock open. In my house, the answer to "How was your day?" is, "Well the lock worked". Don't waste your money - just use your key.

    Meh

Technically the lock works exactly as it says which is why I gave it at least 3 stars. It didn't get three stars because (to me) it was a bit misleading. It mentions that it works with Alexa (which is the reason I purchased) and it does but only after you purchase the "Kevo Plus" hub for another $99. I think this product is best for someone that needs to give different people access to their home. The "E-Key" seems to be the best feature but something that I won't use that often. If you're looking to advance your "smart home" it may be worth it to just use your key until you can spend a bit more on a lock. If you're going to outfit your home with 3+ Kevo locks it might make sense to get the Hub but for 1 door I don't see the value. Pros: Price is relatively cheap, very easy to install with in-app directions, looks alright, easy to use (key is still easier). Cons: It's faster to use a key, no wifi, Hub needed to communicate with Alexa.

It’s faster to pull out my key from my purse or backpack then it is to use this device. It takes at least four tries before the Bluetooth will connect. The batteries need to be replaced every two weeks. We no longer use it. Very disappointed in this product.

It was easy to install, but the door takes forever to unlock. I get to the door (you need to be at the door for it to work) and it takes a minute to find the lock. Then it takes another minute to unlock the door. I'm just standing outside looking stupid. It's honestly quicker to find my keys and unlock the door. You also have to buy a separate item to be able to unlock the door using your phone from anywhere. I wish I didn't purchase this item. I'm very disappointed.

seems to be a decent lock, got it installed but when I contacted my home security service vivint, they indicated that it wasn't a Zwave lock and wouldn't connect. When the description said connection type:wireless...I assumed (wrongly) that it was zwave compatible..nope it's not
