This supposedly "rugged" thing died on me only a month after I bought it, when it accidentally slipped off my lap desk and fell a few short inches onto a couch cushion. Apparently, a short drop onto a soft surface was too much for its "rugged" self. Instantly, it locked up, started clicking, and was utterly unsalvageable. I've had numerous Western Digital drives that have lasted me for years through far worse accidents, and this thing couldn't survive a pillow. The claim this drive is rugged and the rubber bumper around the case are both nothing but marketing. Save yourself a headache and wasted money and buy something else.

This is the best external hard drive. The usb-c is very fast and the casing is safe and protected. Looks great too.

This is my 1st LaCie drive. My previous WD drives broke, costing me A LOT of money for data recovery services. These drives come with 3 years of data recovery insurance. That is a HUGE selling point for me.

Great brand. I like the rugged case but it’s slow!! No point to usb c when disk is 5400rpm or slower. If you want a usb c drive get an SSD.

Plenty of space in this small, compact device for my wedding photo work.

It performed normally with my macbook pro for 3 months, never left my residence, was ejected properly... and then got funky... totally frozen but with its light blinking interminably - or - it would say the disk was unreadable & ask did i want to erase & reformat. it wouldn't appaear on my desktop. if this is how it acts in a covid19, sheltered-in-place, socially distanced year, i wouldn't trust it's "rugged" claim had I been working and traveling to various job sites. so, rugged, not so much. caveat emptor like a mike brady...

easy to use. durable...dropped it and it still works.

I could not get this to work, it could be me I am older but it was too hard to turn on and work.

Purchased in September and corrupted in May. Won’t be purchasing again. All my Lightroom files are on this drive. I hope they can be recovered

Works well so far, no complaints here. Definitely recommend it if you are in the market for an external drive.

I bought this hard drive thinking it was gonna be better than the average. I never dropped it or damaged it, it sat on top of my PC plugged in and one day I noticed it would not connect anymore. It will no longer connect to any computer and there is no way for me to get my files without paying more than the cost of the hard drive itself.

I admit it, I was suckered into buying this "rugged" hard drive. I have sense learned that rugged hard drive is an oxymoron and thus, I was a bit of a moron for buying it. I really thought the bright orange rubber would protect it but it died within two weeks of me purchasing. LaCie did send me a replacement but seriously, why would I use a hard drive that broke after two weeks so I gave it to my son to take apart and he was able to use the innards in his desktop so at least there was some utility.

These devices are horrible. Bought two hard drives which one was a 8 TB and the other was a 2 TB. They both crashed within a week of using. And when I tried to return or fix they said they could exchange and that my only option was paying $500 to restore the drive onto another device. Smh

A little over a year later, the so called Rugged drive keeps disconnecting due to faulty USB-C connection. I changed the cable and it seems to be working fine now. I shouldn't have to replace a cable. So I give it 2 stars.

Crapped out on me after falling off a nightstand at about 3.5 feet. Marketed as the rugged hard drive but doesn't seem to live up to the hype.

LaCie drives are always a great go to choice for transferring data as a shuttle drive, or for someone on the go.

It lasted me two months before it broke down. Didn’t exceed my expectations within the life span. It had usb c and fast data transfer which was great. I probably wouldn’t be purchasing it again as it didn’t last for me at least.

Stopped working after just one year. Won’t mount to my MacBook nor my iPad. Barely had a terabyte of storage used.

Cables are awful and won’t properly work. So if you buy this you will likely have to buy the cables separately.
