A few of my friends with a lot more computer knowledge than myself suggested this particular hard drive so I picked one up. Photography is a hobby of mine and I spend a lot of time photographing birds. In 32 days I probably stored 120GB on this HD because at the particular time a few species of birds are in my area. Somehow, the HD was not showing up on my Mac. I had 4 of the smartest Mac ppl I know take a look at it and nothing. Finally I was going to send it in but when I took the Orange rubber surround off, I saw one of the "warranty void if seal broken" stickers was torn. I called BB and the Geek Squad told me it would cost me a certain Amy to have them even look at it. I was extremely angry.. Not just b/c I lost a lot of photos but because BB wasn't going to do anything about it and Lacie didn't offer anything either. My friends bought me a new one but I'm nervous every time I save anything to it. Recommend to a friend? I wouldn't recommend this thing to an enemy.

ZERO STARS!! As I stated in an earlier review, this purchase marks the limit of my patience with Best Buy. I had previously purchased online an external hard drive which the Best Buy website stated was Windows XP compatible. It was not. I went to a Best Buy store for an exchange. I selected the only drive available which claimed to be XP compatible. I was charged extra for the new drive. When I got home, I found that the new drive would not power up or mount. I returned AGAIN and was given credit for the original purchase, omitting the upcharge for drive #2. Polite words fail to express my sense of anger and disgust. I have been a long and faithful patron of Best Buy, but I doubt I will ever enter be returning.

The LaCie - Rugged Triple 301984 1 TB External Hard Drive is a snap to use. I plugged the hard drive in & downloaded the driver & it was ready to rock. I'm a professional camera operator so dumping footage from CF Cards to a Hard Drive is essential part of my day. I just drag & drop & my footage is transferred without a problem. The rugged design makes it easy to carry in my backpack. I'm not worried if it bounces around & breaking in my bag because it is well protected. With a TB of space it holds a lot of video files that I can use for several jobs. This hard drive is what everyone in the Television & Entertainment business uses.

I shoot in both JPEG and RAW formats on each shot I take with my cameras. That equates to one 23MB file and one 6MB file with each shot. After each session I download all the files onto a laptop and back up all the new shots on the Lacie before I post process my favorites. The transfer speed is good and this unit is durable. I've had portable mass-storage drives fail before. Ironically it's usually the board and not the drive that gives up first. This unit is built strong enough that I just took it with me through Belgium and France without any thought of babying it. It can take a beating. I'm sold.

I got this external HDD for my brother doing his vlogs and for his upcoming youtube series. The one thing that was interesting was that you had to install the software before using the HDD. I've used many external HDD's before and that was the first time I HAD to do that. Most of the time the software is there and I just reformat it so it can be used on both Mac and PC + not have a 4gb transfer limit (since most HD videos after rendering are 10+GBs. It was dropped once and still works incase you're wondering about the "Rugged"ness.

Not sure if it is this particular one that has issues, because I have another external from this same brand and it has served me for years satisfactorily without any problems, I just want a larger memory space hence my new purchase. It keeps disconnecting and reconnecting to my laptop, making it a nightmare to send any thing into it or vice versa. I would be returning it, immediately I return from my trip.

Expensive, but if you really need FireWire...

The base Rugged 1TB drive has USB 3, plenty fast enough for just about anything. This unit adds FireWire along with a higher price tag. FireWire drives can typically be daisy chained with other FireWire drives - but not other USB drives. Too bad FireWire will probably soon join VHS and 8-Track tapes in the graveyard of once useful things. Better to save your cash and get the 1TB rugged drive instead (or the 2TB rugged drive, if you can find one). On USB, both drives are essentially identical.

I used this as a daily backup solution for a large video job a few months back. I was moving quickly and had to have a good drive that I trusted to house about half a terabyte a day. She fit the trick. And I felt better knowing its reinforced for shock. I obviously never tested this and I didn't treat it any differently than any other drive I own but it seems well constructed I've never had a lacie product die on me yet (knock on wood)

Just as the name implies... a nice "Rugged" storge drive. This is the 5th one of these I have purchased for my business. Never had any problems with any of them. The are a bit pricey for the amount of storage but knowing that they will work flawless and take rough treatment makes them worth the price. Plus if you still need FireWire 800 ports... this is one of the few that Best Buy carries that still has it.

It worked. Have't drop it yet though. I got this because my old hard drive took a dive off my table due to my youngest running. I lost everything, it went to format hard drive mode. Yikes!!! I like this because it was drop proof. Others gave it good reviews stating that they ship it in the mail. I also like the fact that you don't have to plug it into the wall like my old one. Which is why it took a dive. This just plugs into the computer.

Good Value. Reliable design. Cheaper Alternative to Thunderbolt version, esp if you have limited Thunderbolt ports. I have bought two of these drives over the last few months, but had to exchange one that was failing initialization. The replacement has worked normally. Construction and Design of the LaCie Rugged has been consistent across generations. I would continue to recommend this product line.

This is a great external harddrive. I keep purchasing these instead of external ssd's which are still a bit too expensive. I've had MANY external standard harddrives fail over the past few years- usually you knock them over one time or drop them even a few feet onto a carpeted floor and they stop working, but so far this model has been great!

Unless you buy a solid state portable hard drive, carrying them around causes failure. Solid state drives are very expensive. This drive, the Lacie Rugged 1 TB unit is built for use, can be safely carried, is guaranteed against dropping (not recommended) and other accidents. I definitely recommend this unit for those who are taking their portable drive with them

I bought the Lacie rugged triple interface 1 TB drive to use on my Macbook Pro for Time Machine backups. It is compatible with time machine and has worked well for the first month. The first thing I did upon opening the packaging, was accidentally drop it on my hard wood floor. No dents and it backed up my computer fine. So far, I'm happy.

As a graphics student, I needed a large portable drive to easily carry my work around on. I decided on the LaCie Rugged because I could easily put it in my bag and not worry about having to be too delicate with it. I love the FireWire 800, it transfers my files in no time and it looks great!

This is great for me because I lose things around the house and the orange makes it clearly visible. Also, it's very bulky in size for an external hard drive. Like a brick almost. The orange part of it is in fact like a sleeve protector, just wish it wasn't able to peel rather it be one with the hard drive itself.

A great little drive, portable, rugged and good-looking. The data is encrypted and the storage capacity is pretty good. The casing is made of strong metal and rubber, and the drive comes with free 10 GB of cloud storage, which is perfect for my needs. I'm very pleased with this product.

I bought this hard drive to store my photographs on and it worked just fine... for 2 months and 1 day... I plugged it into my Mac about a week ago and it wasn't showing up.... Long story short, after having a few friends look at it, going by the local Apple store, and calling LaCie, I will NEVER buy another product from LaCie again.

I have used many different external hard drives over the years. The Lacie rugged has proved to me to be the most reliable. While others have simply failed or have had to have their outer cases replaced, the rugged drive keeps on running. Very fast and compact. Such a small device to hold 1 TB of information.

This is the one and only external hard drive that we use for each and every tv production I work on. MTV, Discovery, NatGeo, Bravo, HGTV. Reliable, durable and user friendly. We use them to shuttle footage between he edit bays and the camera teams in the field.
