I purchased this laptop a little over three weeks ago and was ready to return it after the first week. I did all of the updates via Lenovo but it suffered from the graphics recovery error--the screen would flash and a dialog box appeared describing the error. Thankfully, Intel produced an updated driver that I downloaded last week. Since then, no problems. I tried the HP Spectre, but I didn't care for the all aluminum finish--too slippery. Also, it got much warmer with use than the Lenovo. I love the feel of the rubbery interior while typing, and the keyboard is very comfortable. The ability to fold it over and set it on the keyboard while watching movies or browsing the web is great. The display is amazing! Some have complained about the power block, but I like it. The power strips I use have the outlets perpendicular to the length of the strip--the block only takes up one space. In a worst case scenario you can use a short extension cord if it blocks your outlets. It's a lot nicer having the weight of the block at the outlet vs hanging in the middle of the cord. I travel for a living and the light weight-less than 3 pounds-- of this laptop is a welcome relief. I originally looked at the surface 4 because I needed the minimal weight, but the Yoga had better specs for less money. I very pleased with this purchase.

So many issues for a brand new computer

I had the Lenovo Yoga 900 for about 1 week now and here is my review. PROS 1) It's really fast - internet, network, processing, etc. 2) It has a sleek design and the best looking laptop in the market 3) There's not much bloatware compared to the Lenovo Yoga 2 11 5) Battery lasts me about 6~9 hours and I use the computer intensively -- youtube, music, facebook, typing, watching movie. CONS: 1) Lid issue. Google “Lenovo Yoga 900 Lid close sleep issue”. The laptop does not sleep or hibernate when the lid is closed. I double checked my settings and the laptop does not sleep/hibernate when the lid is closed. This issue is true for my Lenovo. 2) Sleep mode issue. When you put the computer on sleep mode, you will not be able to wake the computer up unless you do a hard reset. Google “lenovo Yoga 900 Sleep mode issue”. Hitting the power does not help. Only a hard reset will wake the computer. This issue is true for my Lenovo. 3) FAN ISSUE. Anytime you open an application or try opening any programs, the fan makes that noise and it’s loud. 4) Graphics, display and resolution issue. The recommended display is at 250%. Most website or apps that I use looks weird in this computer. The photos that looks ok in my other computer, looks weird in this Lenovo yoga 900. The resolution is not crisp at all. Due to the graphics card/resolution, all other display looks weird – like the facebook app, Microsoft word, photos, and some websites.

Great laptop! The only thing I don't like about this laptop is that the actual laptop does not match the picture used to advertise the laptop online. The actual laptop DOES NOT have 3 screens. I guess the laptop is depicted that way to highlight the fact that the screen is hinged, and it opens and closes. I guess that is a pretty important thing to highlight in the picture, considering all the laptops on the market with screens that are permanently attached at a fixed angle.

In less than 2 months from purchase (Exactly 48 days), the end of the decorative links between the screen and keyboard fell off (Check Pictures). Contacted customer service, when they got back to me they only confirmed that it is still in warranty (Of course it is, didn't own it for 2 months yet). Not a single word that they are sorry about the cheap product being sold at that price point. Will never buy a Lenove again, this was my first, and will definitely be my last.

Excellent touchscreen, compact 2in1, lightweight, good battery life, performance and start up times are great. When I bought this the week it was released, windows 10 was a bit buggy but now in March 2016 there have been enough patches to fix those issues and those were issues with windows 10 not this laptop.

We were looking for a laptop that was lightweight and capable of doing heavy spreadsheet work for my wife's consulting work. After looking at reviews from consumers and product testers and trying one out at the store, she chose the Yoga 900 with 16G memory and 512 SSD. To that we added our Office 360 subscription and she was ready to roll. So far the computer has lived up to its billing as a feature rich hybrid. The touchscreen is excellent and easy to use, but a little dim in bright sunlight, even when sitting in the shade. However, it's more than bright enough for interior work. Boot up with the SSD is nice and quick, but waking from sleep has been troubled at times as the computer can hang, or tells you that nobody can log on because all resources are used up. Battery life is reasonable; much like a smart phone if you keep the screen dimmed to a reasonable level and turn off Bluetooth and location, it will last longer. Running the screen at max brightness and you'll be dead in a couple of hours or so. The keyboard is nicely tactile, but if you are like me, the slightly smaller than standard sized keyboard may take a little getting used to. The case is well constructed with a well crafted feel. All in all, a nice machine for the price.

A great successor to the Yoga 3 Pro

I have experience with the Yoga 2, Yoga 3 Pro, and now the Yoga 900. My personal laptop was the Yoga 3 Pro. A great machine, but I needed more horsepower when I edit photos. Since another member of my family needed a new laptop, I shifted the 3 to that person, then got the 900. At first I was less than thrilled with a few issues, but updating the drivers seemed to iron most of them out. It's very fast and responsive; I think the battery life is a little better than the Yoga 3; and I feel the keyboard is much improved (I had a little problem with certain keys binding on the Yoga 3 if they were hit obliquely; the action on the 900 seems much smoother). The power supply is much bigger, covering two plugs. The 900 is supposed to be a little heavier than the 3; I don't find it even noticeable. I do see that it has a stiffer frame, and that's IMMEDIATELY noticeable, an preferred. A couple of small changes that I miss: the 3 had volume buttons and a micro-HDMI; the 900 does not, although it DOES have a USB-C (3.1) port. I was able to get video out through that port. Speaking of that port, one terrific thing: I was able to drive a 4K monitor at full resolution with no problems. Nice to know. And for that monitor, I picked up an Actiontec ScreenBeam Mini 2 to send my display to my big screen: it works flawlessly (at 1080p only; no 4K support). One small niggling issue: I have a Microsoft Bluetooth arc mouse. It occasionally will freeze (it still shows connected). If I bounce the BT, then it works fine. It only happens occasionally (MUCH less after I updated the driver). The screen is still excellent, and the hinge is stronger than the Yoga 3. The machine is VERY responsive. So to sum up: PRO's: - I7 Processor - Stiffer/better construction - Improved keyboard (also, it has two levels of backlight - nice) - Better power button (easier to find by touch - forgot to mention that) - Pretty good battery life - Will drive 4K monitors CONs: - No volume buttons - Need an adapter for external video CONCLUSION: Lenovo obviously listened to user concerns about the 3, and it shows. The Yoga 900 is a well thought-out, elegant little machine. I'm VERY satisfied with it. It's not a cheap machine, but if you need decent power in a very portable package, you won't go wrong here.

    Needed Performance in a Pinch

My usual high performance laptop's cooling fans quit on me and I needed to pick up something off-the-shelf to keep my work going (I'm a professional photographer who relies on working on the go 7 days a week.) I spent two hours in the store looking at several different laptops that were priced similarly - I needed processing power and memory most of all, followed by portable and lifespan. This laptop has a few things I didn't really need, but have come to enjoy - mainly the touchscreen display and 2 in 1 functionality. The watchband hinge feels solid and sturdy, and laptop reacts to being flipped from a standard laptop to a tablet seamlessly. There is an abundance of power contained in a very small package that doesn't get nearly as hot as my previous laptop. Battery lasts quite a while - even while editing intensely within Lightroom and Photoshop, and exporting photos, I average at least 2 hours. If I'm just surfing the net, uploading photos, or using less processor intensive applications, I've been able to stretch that battery life to 6+ hours of continuous usage. I did spend an entire weekend over Thanksgiving checking emails and doing minor surfing without plugging in the computer once. The 3 USB ports and 1 USB Type C port are more than enough, plus it's great having an SD card reader built in. Downsides: The sound output isn't very loud, but it's rare that I use the built in speakers (I'm usually listening on headphones.) There isn't a dedicated HDMI or VGA port, which means needing to have a USB Type C to HDMI or VGA adapter. The mouse trackpad buttons can be finicky at times. The power adapter is a large "wall wart" that doesn't always play nicely and share the second receptacle outlet with other devices that plug in. Also, it's large weight and depth away from the wall can cause it to fall out of loose receptacles. For me, this is a good laptop - it's got power and portability, plenty of memory for most people. It's not as powerful as my custom built laptop of course, but it's also half the price. I have recommended this to photographer colleagues for travel use.

    Better than HP Spectre!

Cons: Bought this machine and was VERY excited. Upon setup, realized that the two finger scroll command does NOT work in settings, or star menu, or options, ONLY in web browsing mode which is incredibly frustrating to have to keep remembering between when it works and when it does not. Also, the double "tap" function does not work, like on any HP, Dell, etc. You have to physically press with 2 fingers (instead of tap) at which point the touch pad makes a loud crunch sound. One more thing, the touch pad has sharp edges which are unpleasant to the touch when you swipe over it accidentally. Not painful or anything, just not something I would like to feel all the time. Also, this machine does not have a full keyboard in the sense of the buttons are smaller, making it hard to type accurately, and the SHIFT key is tiny and hard to press most of the time. Another issue I noticed is the battery life. Upon first opening it, I followed all instructions and charged, drained, recharged etc. and on the first full battery I got phenomenal battery life. I used it for 3 days intermediately without a problem. However, after the second charge, I open the device, and on full battery and power saving more, it shows my battery only having 4 hours and 56 minutes left. Keep in mind, on my first charge, I probably got closer to 11 hours from one charge and being on battery saver mode. This is not very promising. Pros: This is a beautiful machine and is very well built. If you have small finders or are used to a 13" then the keyboard would not bother you at all. The screen resolution and color are just spectacular and you can't beat the i7 processor. The computer does not lag, at all and its hard to max it out even with 15 tabs open, email, other programs, etc. The yoga 900 comes with windows 10 standard, so no additional work is required here. Overall, this is a great computer, however, I will be taking it back for something with a bigger keyboard and better battery life. Thanks!

Replacing a 6.5 year old portable

My old machine had 2 GB of RAM, a 150 GB hard drive, and a much slower dual core processor. Naturally, upgrading to something near the top of the line would be a significant change. Others have complained about fan noise... I don't find it to be any kind of issue, and unless you're using the system in a high performance mode, the fan doesn't even come on. I've found using the 2-in-1 flexibility to be a pleasure and I've begun using this flexibility more and more. The machine is certainly a bit large and clumsy in tablet mode, but I have a Nexus 7 (2013) that I am comparing it to. Microsoft has definitely improved things in Windows 10 to support this feature. I bought prior to Black Friday and saw the price GO UP for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.... definitely not something I expected from Best Buy. Others have complained about the power brick plugging directly into an outlet and taking p a lot of space... I don't consider that a problem and use a small/cheap extension cord as necessary. Apparently Lenovo got dinged in the past for batteries not holding a charge after some time in use - at least that's what a neighbor told me. I found that Lenovo has included a utility that provides a maximum charge of 60% if you use your system plugged in most of the time. The theory is that this will extend the useful life of the battery - I can not say if that will be the case as I've only had the machine a month. I've been using this feature, and even at a 60% charge the battery run time is better than I expected. The only negative of this feature is that you have to manually turn it off to charge to 100%, thus you have to anticipate the need of running without being plugged in.

A fatal flaw, and lots of little annoyances

I really, REALLY wanted to like this machine. It's gorgeous, it's light, the battery lasts seemingly forever. But between the flaw in the next paragraph and the annoyances listed later, it went back for a Surface Pro 4. We'll see how that one works out - I can say after just a couple days that the battery life is nowhere near the Yoga. I had two of these units. Both of them exhibited the same fatal flaw: after closing the cover, slight pressure on the cover (e.g. holding it in one hand by the hinge side, when putting it in a laptop bag) would wake it from sleep. The machine would then proceed to roast itself in the enclosed space. Both Geek Squad and Lenovo support suggested sending my days-old machine out for service, which would be several weeks. Thanks, but no thanks. Tried updated BIOS, latest drivers, Lenovo support changed some settings ... still same symptom. Besides that, there were just enough annoyances to make the prospect of living with it for a few years untenable. * The keyboard, while nice, has an odd placement of the backspace key. Even after moderate use, I was hitting the wrong keys when touch typing. * The travel may be "great" for a thin machine, but it was very, very shallow. Nothing like a classic ThinkPad laptop keyboard. * The keys themselves are exceptionally glossy. So much so that it's impossible to see the white paint under many lighting conditions. The backlight helps, but only so much. * The touchpad was (pardon the puns) both touchy and touch-and-go. Sometimes it would just stop responding for a few seconds. Other times it would not register physical clicks. The first unit's pad felt loose and unstable. The second one was better, but still had the "not responding" issues. Finally, it's made of some kind of porous plastic that instantly picks up finger grease and displays odd shininess across the surface where it's most used. I couldn't find a way to remove the marks. * The silver case is similar. It picks up fingerprints seemingly out of the air, and always looks grubby shortly after wiping it clean. * The screen has a very thick bezel, and between that and the 16:9 aspect ratio it made for a very odd "tablet" experience when in portrait mode. Between the screen, the keyboard underneath and the weight of the complete unit, I'd hardly consider using tablet mode unless absolutely necessary. Without a stylus to take notes, it just wasn't going to be of much use to me, which was kind of the point of the folding hinge design in the first place. *That power brick. In some hotels, it would leave me with a choice of a light on the table OR the power brick. It has to have its own wall outlet, or three sockets on a typical power strip. A small extension cord helps, but that is just one more thing to throw in the laptop bag when traveling. If the power issue were fixed, maybe it's good enough. There might be a software/firmware fix for that, and perhaps the trackpad, too. But the rest of the issues are part of the design. It just wasn't for me. This website insists I answer the "Recommend" question. It depends - if the "annoyances" listed above don't matter to you, or you can overlook them, it's a fantastic machine. I just wasn't willing to risk waiting for a "fix" for the power issue knowing I'd have the rest of the issues to live with. It's a laptop worth considering, but ....

I compared this unit to the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with the same specifications (Intel Core i7, 16 gigabytes of ram, 512 gigabytes of storage) and found at the time of purchase the Surface would have been ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS more expensive. Realizing the great reviews I've seen of previous Yogas the Surface was quickly out of contention. I've been so happy with this new Yoga. It's light as a feather, the watch band hinge is as good as everyone says, and most important this thing is so fast it's scary. It boots up Windows 10 in seconds. I had another demonstration of this speed last week when I upgraded three different computers to the new build of WIndows 10. My first two older machines took about 45 minutes to upgrade. When i upgraded the Yoga 900 I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The upgrade was totally finished and ready to go in less than TEN minutes. I've seen some complaints here about problems with the trackpad, keyboard, etc. I've experienced none of these. The point i DO agree with everyone is the power supply 'brick' that plugs into the wall. It looks like it was designed by an engineering student dropout. It's 2 3/4 inches long and the 2 electrical prongs are right smack in the middle so it totally blocks other nearby outlets. My solution however was simple, just find a cheap extension cord around the house and plug the adapter into it. Problem solved, and you've got a longer power cord for your new computer. I've been working with the Yoga 900 for a few weeks now and absolutely recommend it for anyone who wants a top of the line, powerful and FAST laptop.

The Yoga 900 has everything a business laptop should have for a mobile professional. It is lightweight, powerful, has great battery life, runs Windows 10 effortlessly, and can be used in cramped spaces like a coach seat when the inconsiderate buffoon in front of you reclines. This machine is far superior to anything in its price range. The only negative is the power connector. Because it isn't used on other models, none of the travel oriented after market adapters work with it and the Lenovo configuration can be problematic for both length and when you need it to fit nicely with other plugs in a crowded power strip or receptacle.

The laptop while a bit expensive, is incredible - lightweight, long battery, good keyboard, fast i7 w/16GB and beautiful screen. However it is the last point that drops a star. The high res screen is poorly supported by Windows and many applications. The problem is scaling of text and title bars that are so small that you cannot read it or select things to click. It's not the fault of Lenovo but the fault of application writers and Microsoft. The problem is especially noticeable when using a second screen. My hope is Windows and applications fix this problem in future updates.

I was looking for a lightweight but powerful laptop that I could easily take anywhere. I needed 16 gb RAM to run Virtual machine on the laptop and this fit the bill at a reasonable price. Most other lightweight laptops come with 8gb RAM. No issues so far. At home I use it with a wireless keyboard and mouse. The built in keyboard could have been better - does not feel good while typing. I got a usb3 to vga converter for connecting to projectors at work. Once in a while the touchscreen seems to require an extra tapping. Not sure if it a laptop issue or windows issue. On the whole the touchscreen provides a more engaging and productive experience as compared to a laptop without a touchscreen.

After using my new Yoga 900 for a while, I can say with confidence... I LOVE IT! It is fast, powerful, lightweight, well-made, fast (yeah, I said fast twice!) The Solid State Drive makes a *world* of difference! The keyboard is comfortable and I'm completely sold on touch-screen now that I've tried it. Don't be afraid of Windows 10...it looks great! The "watch-band" hinge is so much more stable that traditional two-point hinges found on other laptops. I can say nothing negative about the computer. I'm very happy with my choice! :-)

Does anyone know if I could replace this SK Hynix HFS512G39MND-3310A DB with the Samsung 950 Pro? In other words, does it support both SATA III and PCIe via m.2 connection? Best Buy now sells an updated version of this model with the i7-6560 (Iris graphics) and PCIe SSD, however I don't know if it's the same motherboard and BIOS version. Disk: Removable To start, I want to point out that this laptop does not have a PCIe (NVMe) SSD, it's a SATA III (M.2) drive. (Best Buy doesn't do a very good job of labeling the specs and it's frustrating, since they have their exclusive Best Buy models to avoid price matching.) Regardless, it's very fast and seems as quick as the Microsoft Surface and I'm not sure you'd notice the difference between the updated graphics (not a gaming laptop) and SSD. (See attached photo for ssd benchmark). Memory: Soldered (buy the correct amount of RAM you need). DDR3-1866 Operating System: Windows 10 Home (Signature Edition = No bloatware) Display - 3200 x 1800 Haven't had any issues, however it's a touch glossy when viewing outside...still able to see. I set the display a couple notches brighter than what the manufacturer selected. Battery - Internal (easy removal, under bottom panel - 10 t-5 screws) I got 3 days out of my battery after the initial charge with very little activity until the battery died. When used frequently, expect 7-9 hours. WiFi- Have had no issues - pretty solid, especially with an AC router. Hinge - Unlike previous models (which I've replaced a couple with broken top and bottom covers), this one has more contact points and there are less stress points for fracture. Keyboard - It takes a little bit to get used to the keys, however I don't find it that annoying, as others have pointed out. My goal in buying this was for business (IT Consulting). I went with the 500GB SSD and 16GB RAM. I was trying to combine the MS Surface with a Razor Blade Stealth/Macbook and save money. So far, this has been perfect. Spec for spec, this is a great value compared to HP x360 Spectre and XPS 13 Touch.
