I really love this portable air conditioner. It was great for cooling my 1000 sq ft apartment and at night I would move it into my room (wheels to the rescue!) and it would make it the perfect temperature for sleeping. I love that it came with a remote and I could program it. It is a bit pricey, but totally worth the cost if you want a machine that actually works.

Does a decent job, cool but not cold.

I bought the LG 12000 BTU for an upstairs 300 square foot bedroom which gets hot during the day. It was easy to install the plastic panels and the flexible tubing was also easy to bend. The flexible tubing will get very warm during the cooling mode as the warm air is exhausted out. I may end up wrapping the exhaust tubing with some type of insulation to keep the warm air from radiating back to the room. The window kit fits windows from 18" to 50", so measure your window before making the purchase. The unit is heavy, weighing approximately 67 lbs, however, the casters facilitate moving the AC around. So how well did it work for me? The AC cooled the room well, but it definitely does not get cold like you would feel with a traditional window unit or one from a hotel room. This is expected since all of the single exhaust portable ac units draw in exterior warm ambient air from surrounding areas in order to replace the cool air that was expelled from the tube connected to the window. As far as noise goes, I did not find the noise to be bothersome. The noise is not any worse than a window unit. Nevertheless, the noise will bother some since we all have different noise tolerances. If you are noise sensitive, I believe some manufacturers make units which they claim are quiet. The LG portable ac is said to be a self evaporative unit in air conditioner mode which means there should be no need to empty out the condensate water. I live in the arid Southern California area, so there is not much humidity here, and so far I have not had to empty out any water. One criticism I have is that there is no display of the current room temperature on the AC unit. I also own the LG 8000 BTU portable ac unit, and that one displays the measured room temperature so you can actually see the temperature reading decreasing as the room cools down. However, that is not the case with this 12000 BTU unit. Other than feeling that the room is cooler, I don't really know how many degrees the room actually cooled down to. Bottom line is that it works and will offer some cooling relief, but won't be as cool and no where as energy efficient as a window unit.

I can't stand hot weather so I bought this air conditioner. It cools really well, but it's really noisy...I thought the price was a bit high, but I ended up buying it anyway.

    Great alternative to running AC

Bought this as an alternative to running my inefficient central AC. We hook it up in our room at night, and it cools the room wonderfully. It is a little noisy, but it sure beats sleeping in a hot rooms. Costs less than our AC to run as well. It's been 2 weeks since we ordered it and we are pleased thus far.

Awful. Ridiculously loud. Dogs are terrified of it. Customer service failed to help and wasted my time ( set me up with a repair center that doesnt service the product and then told me - after calling them back ) that they could find one in 3-5 business days. Can't even sleep with this thing on for more then 20 minutes ( and I've used window AC unites since I was 10 with no trouble ). Spend your money on a company that builds a decent product - move along, nothing to see here.

The unit started leaking oil only after two uses

For those not familiar, leaking oil means leaking freon. The A/C no longer cools after two short sessions. Perhaps I got a faulty one, but naturally, I am disappointed.
