    NO GOOD--Fridge went warm

--This is an update to an earlier review-- Fridge was purchased on 7/16/16 as an open box/ floor display. Was told there were no problems in terms of function, just cosmetic defects from being on display. Got the fridge home, set it up according to the manual and gave it 9 hrs to cool off. Loaded it with new groceries and everything was great for 3.5 weeks. The morning of 8/10/16 I woke up and the fridge was warm, freezer was fine. Lost all of my food in the fridge. The temperature readings were displaying and error code "Er -FF" Called LG tech support at 6am hoping for a simple fix, foreign woman barely speaking English tells me it is the "freezer fan motor" and it has probably gone bad. She checks the serial number on the fridge and turns out it was manufactured in early 2014. LG tech support issued a work order to a local repair company since their warranty is good for 1 year from date of retail purchase. I followed up with the repair company, and they needed 2 days to get parts. Decided to return the fridge and exchange it for a new Whirlpool, I was not going to have a fridge that was technically 2.5yrs old and already needing repairs when I could exchange it for a better quality fridge that was truly brand new. Best Buy was awesome as always and offered to deliver the new one and take the old one since this was a disaster.

The frig. is very basic but has a good price point. We have only owned it for two weeks but so far no issues. I wish LG had a model with ice/water in the door that was less than $2,600.

Great. But major (& easily fixable) design flaw

This is so much better than the side-by-side of the same size that it replaced. Seems to have a lot more internal room than our old fridge, and is very quiet (though the sound it makes is a little more focused, making it a little more noticeable than it's low volume level would suggest). We very much like the layout of the drawers -- having a wide cold cuts drawer instead of the fairly common half-width hanging drawer helps keep everything on the shelves within easier reach; this fridge does not feel claustrophobic. The freezer drawers function very smoothly and feel solid. Easy to get at food, and we're finding that we really like having a bottom freezer with drawers, as they're easier to search through than shelves would be. We would like the top drawer to pull out a little farther, but anything we don't like about the fridge is minor. On to the design flaw and solution. The left door has a retractable mullion that helps maintain the seal when the doors are closed. However, unless you open the door quickly, the mullion doesn't retract properly, and then it bangs into the other door when you try to close the fridge. Best Buy was excellent in sending someone over to fix it. They ordered a new mullion, which had the same problem, so we gave up on it. I fixed the problem completely by taping a thin metal strip (about the size of a small paper clip) onto the part on the top of the fridge interior that the mullion slides into when closing, thereby making the opening smaller. Now when opening the door, that smaller opening succeeds 100% of the time in getting the mullion to properly retract. I am astounded that LG would design something so doomed to fail, when redesigning a simple piece of plastic would have eliminated any likelihood of failure. After having found an easy fix to this single major problem, there is no other fridge we would rather have. One final note for those of you with small doors leading into the kitchen. We had to take the doors off to get the fridge into our kitchen, and discovered that the stated depth (sans doors) was understated by 1-2 16ths of an inch, as one bracket stuck out farther than advertised. We ended up having to chisel away at our door jamb to make room for it. We still have repairs to make, but still, no regrets having purchased this fridge.

Purchases fridge from Best Buy. Pricing seemed in line with what we wanted to spend. Replacing a similar style KitchenAid appliance. Unfortunately this fridge is not up to the caliber is our last one. There seems to be cool pockets in the fridge rwhere certain items are frozen.

This size refrigerator in not available with Ice and water in the door. Both doors have to be fully open to get anything out. The shelves on the doors are difficult to get items in and out. In the freezer everything is hidden except for the top layer. The freezer has to be unloaded to get to anything on the bottom.

Good choice when 36" is too wide

We did not have space for the most common size of French Door refrigerators--36" wide--so the options were somewhat limited. We also did not want ice and water through the door which further limited our choices. It was delivered in good shape. Unfortunately, it was not properly leveled and we had issues with the door closing properly. Once that was fixed it worked great. There is tons of space and the lighting is great. Not a big fan of the wide bottom drawer that all of these refrigerators have since both doors have to be opened to access. Also, the ice maker bin is much larger than it needs to be. But, overall a good choice.

    As of delivery today...

Prior to purchasing this fridge we had three main concerns: 1. Would the fridge look too small in the space? 2. Would we be annoyed with the lack of water feature? 3. Would the fridge have enough room inside for all that we have? As of today's delivery we are happy with our answers to all three questions. 1.This fridge sits beside a pantry wall on one side and an open entry (albeit a narrow entry) into the kitchen. The fridge that was previously there came right to the entry way and made the entrance to our kitchen feel very small. This fridge is PERFECT for our space because it gives us 3" more than the standard size fridge, which gets rid of that "wall effect" that was created by the 36" side by side fridge that was there previously. The important part of this though is that, if I didn't know this fridge was slightly smaller than average, I would have no idea that it wasn't a standard size fridge. It's incredibly sleek looking and gives the impression of any other size fridge one would expect in an average size kitchen. 2. The lack of water feature really is a personal preference. My husband and I always drink bottled water or use water from a Brita pitcher. Again, this really is a personal preference, but we aren't offended that there is no water feature. 3. I am most pleasantly surprised by how spacious the fridge is inside. On the bottom shelf you can easily fit four one-gallon jugs of milk on ONE side of the fridge. (We actually tested this at the store.) We also have 24 bottles of water on one side of the middle shelf. The drawers and pull out tray are very sharp looking and I know we will have ample space for lunch meat and perishables. As of today we are very happy we went with this fridge after hours of agonizing over what to pick.

Popping and Loud Amber Alert sounds

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this fridge from Best Buy last week. On the first and second day, we heard popping sounds and loud sounds, similar to Amber Alert or severe weather warning sounds on TV, lasting several seconds. We wanted to return the fridge, but the local sales person, who sold the fridge to us, told us to turn OFF the switch inside the ice maker. As we have not yet connected a water connection to the fridge to make ice, apparently the fridge is attempting to make ice without incoming water supply and hence creating popping and sometimes loud sounds. After turning OFF the ice maker, this loud sound problem is solved for us and we are keeping the fridge. I wish that LG factory turns OFF the switch by default.

We have a 100+ year old house with small kitchen that we are updating. I wanted a refrigerator that was 33" or less, French doors, bottom freezer, no water dispenser and one that wasn't ridiculously expensive. This one is "it". Love the inside of the refrigerator, it is well made and stood out from other brands in this price range. Lots of storage and shelves and I love the deli drawer most of all. The freezer is very roomy and although I do not use the ice maker, love the ice bin for a bag of ice. This unit is very quiet, sleek and just plain beautiful in my newly renovated kitchen.

They don't make them like they used to

My previous LG refrigerator had a compressor failure after 7 years. The store staff indicated that that is about how long refrigerators last these days. I was very surprised by that. Also surprised that the prices have gone up considerably. We had this refrigerator delivered and it is much louder than my previous LG refrigerator. The ice maker and the compressor both are louder and It would occasionally make a rattling noise. The compressor made this very low hum that would transmit to the floor and sounded like a large truck was idling outside. The Geek Squad repairman came to see if he could make it quieter and he could not. Best Buy replaced the refrigerator and the replacement makes the same noises. Poor design in that the compressor transmits vibration to the entire refrigerator case. I resorted to placing it on 1/2 inch rubber flooring tile like is used in weight rooms. It makes the hum about 50% quieter. The ice still tastes like plastic after I have emptied the full ice bin three times. I know the water supply line is not the problem because I have sampled the water from it and it is fine.

We looked hard both online and in-store before deciding on this refrigerator. Turned out extremely well. The gleaming finish on the outside is gorgeous. The inside is terrific in every way-- especially the LED lighting. The freezer section is just fine, and the icemaker makes TONS of ice. The sale, delivery and installation was very smoothly handled as well. All in all, we couldn't be more pleased.

As my kitchen space is limited, it took me a while to find a 33" wide refrigerator. I have had this refrigerator for over 3 months now. No flaws have been observed. It runs quietly and has plenty storage space. I am very happy with this refrigerator!
