Consumer reports gave this refrigerator a "Very Good" rating on noise level. I kept reading about customers complaining about the noise and wanted to know why CR would give it such a good rating for noise. After 3 months our refrigerator started to make a loud humming noise which could be heard throughout our house. We called for service and the repairman said that certain serial numbers of this model had defective board installed in them. The sound was the ice build up in around the fan casing because the defective board did not program the refrigerator with enough defrost time and the ice or frost did not melt.
After the board was replaced it runs very quiet. I gave it four starts because no I was sold a good refrigerator that had a factory defect. Good thing the refrigerator was still under warranty and we didn't have to pay a dime for the repair.

We bought the refrigerator from Best Buy in March of 2016 for a discounted price. It was the right size for the counter depth that we were looking for. Even though the ice capacity is pretty small and the space is small, we were quite happy with it because the fridge looked nice and everything was working fine. About 1 1/2 months ago, we noticed that the temperature was not as cold anymore and soon enough the fridge stopped making ice. Unfortunately, a year has passed so we couldn't get a warranty work on it. The part was still covered up to 3 years. When we called the representative, they gave us a few options to "extend" the warranty, but it was only for the ice maker and for each we had to pay at least $400. One policy would cover the labor cost but only if the technician is approved by LG, which is understandable. Except she couldn't find one in our area - not in the city of Houston. (REALLY?). So we had to find a technician on our own and if the technician charged more than they think the cost would be, we had to pay the difference ourselves. So, to make a long story short, we decided to hire a technician ourselves and let LG covered the part. So, a year ago, we paid this item during sale for about $2700 with tax and when the technician finished fixing it a week ago, we had to shell out another $950 for the labor. So, within a year and half, we spent close to $3700 on this fridge. We still have our ugly looking 20 year old fridge in the garage that we never spent a dime since we bought it. Would I recommend this to a friend. NO way. Would I buy another LG? Are you kidding? They definitely lost a customer with us. We also decided, if this thing break again, we are going to go ahead and replace it. No more LG for us.

Sleek down-sizing

We were down-sizing from a 30+ cu ft monstrosity, so it's been difficult to adjust, but we don't miss the ability to stuff multiple mystery containers into the dark recesses of the old fridge. This counter-depth is beautiful and functional. We've had it for 3 weeks with no issues at all. The ice maker is compact, perfect for everyday use, but if you use a lot of ice, you may not be happy with the volume it holds. I'd rather have more space for food than for ice, so it's great for us. Face it, stainless may not be the best choice for families with small kids (but then neither is a 24 cu ft fridge). Use the handles and don't touch the front. There ARE some great hints online for cleaning stainless. Another important feature: MAGNETS DON'T STICK on the fridge. Remember? Not for youngs kids!

PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE

PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT LG PRODUCTS. This may be a perfectly fine working refrigerator, unfortunately I'll never know. We had this fridge for about 6 months and were happy with it, until the problems started. The screen display on the front stopped working and read an Rf error code. The repair tech seemed to think it was an easy repair of the control board. LG customer service made the repair a living nightmare...hours spent on the phone to barely make progress, and then weeks and weeks of waiting for the part to finally arrive at the repair techs. This happened 4 separate times, with the same error displaying after each "fix".
In the mean time (because of the slow response time from LG), the purchase of the fridge is now over a year, and although the issue started 6 months ago, LG is now saying that it's past a year, so the warranty is up and they will do nothing to fix the problem. Now I'm stuck with at $2,500 fridge, that doesn't make ice, or dispense water/ice from the door.
The repair tech that came to help each time, told me other horror stories of the way LG treats their customers. He's worked with all brands of appliances, and the one brand he said he would never buy is LG. Make note of that!
It asks if I would recommend this product to a friend...I wouldn't recommend this to my enemy!
PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE, I WISH I WOULD HAVE.

I bought this LG fridge because it matched the appliances in my house and it's the fridge that the previous owners had. I was persuaded by the 10 year warranty on the compressor. At first, I loved this fridge. It's big and roomy, the ice maker is amazing. At 11 months is stopped cooling and making ice. We lost all our food. I bought the 3 year Geek Squad protection package. They came out 3 times and ordered parts twice. The compressor was on back order!!! After 2 weeks I ended up having to take an exchange because I couldn't go any longer without a fridge. I have a four person household. All of these meetings interfered with my work schedule. I had to fight to get a fair exchange, and the fridge that I exchanged it for doesn't get very good ratings either, but was the only other model offered in counter depth. This type of defect and poor customer service should be illegal. What a hassle!

Before you buy this refrigerator Google this model refrigerator losing all cooling and icing up. I purchased this refrigerator 3 years ago for $2800. Within the first year it had a issue with a block of ice forming behind the lower drawer. LG sent a technician who replaced a circuit board and relocated a temperature sensor. He guaranteed the issue would never return and he was right. The refrigerator worked well for two more years until a few weeks ago. I can home to water leaking from the door where the ice maker is located. I cleaned up the water and checked it a little later. The internal temperature was at 58 degrees and rising. I threw most of the contents away and placed what was left in a cooler with ice. I checked the temperature two hours later and it was now at 70 degrees. The compressor was running but was cool to the touch. Compressors should be warm to very warm when running. I called LG customer service and was told the parts were under warranty but I had to pay a $125 diagnostic fee and then around $200-$300 for the labor to replace the entire cooling system. I was given a case number and was told I would be contacted within 3-5 days to setup a repair date. Nobody form LG contacted me. I called again and was told they would resubmit my repair. I had to wait another 3-5 days. Again, nobody from LG contacted me. I called and was told my case would be escalated to their escalation department, and that someone would contact me in 3-5 days. Nobody from LG contacted me. I called LG and asked to speak with someone in the escalation department. The representative was rude and dismissive, told me they have nobody in my area that can repair the “LG Sealed System”, and that I just had to wait until they find someone. I asked to speak with someone else and was told I could not and he wouldn’t transfer me. I asked again and was told that the call was being disconnected. He hung up. I called back and was connected to a much nicer representative, but was told I had to wait another 3-5 days. By now I’ve been without a refrigerator for weeks. I live close to Chicago. I find it hard to believe there is nobody in the Chicagoland area that can repair my refrigerator. My last call was Friday 09/07/2018. I was told yet again to wait 3-5 days. This is more than pathetic customer service. If I have to buy a new refrigerator to replace a three year old $2800 one, LG has lost a customer for life.

Yes, it is nice, and counter depth, main reason why I bought it 2 years ago. And I waited this long to write a review because I find it useless to write a review one week after purchasing an item.
This refrigerator always made funny noises, but I read on the owners manual they were normal, so it never really bothered me. Until this past Labor Day when it stopped working. The compressor went out which is a very known issue with these refrigerators. I called Best Buy, fortunately I have bought a 5 year protection when I first bought it so they directed me to LG; 5 days later, a big headache and lots of spoiled food a certified LG technician stopped by and replaced the compressor.
As of now it seems to be working fine again, but I'm weary that this will happen again as Lg is replacing bad compressors with the same kind. So buy it at your own risk. I had read some bad reviews before buying it and that's the main reason why I bought the extended protection. So glad I did because that saved me 500 in repairs. Hopefully Best buy will help with all the money wasted in spoiled food; I'll come back later and finish this story.

I will be short and brief.
Bought this unit brand new while doing a complete kitchen remodel in February 2017. Down to the studs, new sheet rock, cabinets, granite countertops, under cabinet lighting. My wife and I figured if we've gone this far, $2,300 for a refrigerator seems like a lot of money but in the grand scheme of the project, it is what it is. The refrigerator is just over two years old at the time of this post.
Two phone calls later to LG, a $125.00 prepaid non-refundable service call fee, and over $200.00 in food thrown out and we are waiting to have the entire cooling system REPLACED !!! Unit failed or was failing around the Memorial Day weekend 2018. We placed the call on Tuesday, May 29th, service repair person came on the 30th and was SUPER, INCREDIBLY nice and professional and listened to me gripe. He had the condenser, evaporator, compressor and miscellaneous other parts sent Fed-X to our home within 24 hours for a repair on June 2nd.
What I am totally disgusted about is the second call to LG to fight the "agreed" upon warranty fees that will be around $250.00 dollars for labor not covered under the LG maintenance owners manual line item. In addition to the $200.00 in food and the $125.00 non-refundable service call fee, my wife and I are obligated to pay $575.00 over and above the $2,300 we already paid for a 2 year old refrigerator. The second call to LG is what really set me off. The person was rude, didn't want to here or could care less about my complaint. All they could repeat was that I agreed to paying the labor fees prior to work being done.
This is completely UNACCEPTABLE !!! I understand the service repair person has to get paid, beyond that, forget it !!!
Will NEVER buy another LG product again. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED !!!!

We have had this fridge since 2016. It’s a decent fridge for a family of two or three. Being counter depth you sacrifice storage space. We tend to shop more often because cold food storage is limited. We do have an under counter drink cooler installed in the kitchen which helps some. Additionally, we recently had to replace the compressor. Lost all the food but it has a great over the phone diagnostic tool that told the call center exactly what the problem was. Fridge was out of warranty, but luckily the compressors have 10 year coverage.

Always sort reviews by "Most Recent" and not by "Most Helpful" since all the old and bad reviews seem to show up under "most helpful". We just bought this one a few weeks ago and it is great. None of the issues with frost or anything else. Blows away our old Kenmore. We were told the little ice tray in the freezer just automatically makes ice... Like a 2nd ice maker. This is not the case and I should have known that sounded wrong. Just a tray that you can fill up with ice to load coolers up, etc. Would be really cool if it did have 2 ice makers though.
