Actual read speed never got up to 24x, but I think that has to do with the quality/balance of the disks... I saw anywhere from 8x to 19x reading audio CDs.

It isn't the fastest drive, but it doesn't claim to be. Drive seems solid, performs as expected, and is exactly what I was looking for: solid performance, no unnecessary frills, competitive pricing. Would recommend.
