I just purchased this TV and all I can say is "I'm really happy." I purchased this TV to replace my Samsung 32" LCD TV which died the night before this LG was delivered (good timing). My Samsung died after just 7 years. I expected more life for what I paid. I got the LG up and running and I'm just shocked. I guess going from 32" to 55" was a little overwhelming on the senses. The HDR is amazing. I have not actually viewed any 4K media yet because it's only been a couple of days and I'm still trying to figure out all the features. The Web OS is amazing. The upscaling and 3D are both awesome on this TV. I would recommend this TV to everyone. The only two that I saw that had better picture quality were the UH9500 and the OLED. I'm trying to find a tutorial to help me figure out all the features.

There are no apps available for the market place worth while, the magic remote pops up a menu EVERY time you move it which is a huge design over sight. Picture is good and 3D is OK, this is not the TV for you if you want something impressive that delivers what it advertises. This LG should not be advertised the way it was, it's a disappointment.

Let me start off by stating that I was in the market for a 4k, HDR, 3d TV.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and what I may be looking for in a TV set my be completely different for anyone else. I would just like to share my experience of this crazy shopping extravaganza I went through and driving my wife crazy in the process.
I tested all TV's with the same 1080P non 3d movie Wrath of the Titans, same HDR movie Marco Polo on Netflix, and Avatar 1080P in 3d
I first purchased a Samsung 55 js8500. The colors were great but the 4k up-scaling was sub par, HDR was not available even after an update. I tested this by putting on Marco Polo on Netflix and the HDR option was not available even though if you look online it says that the TV is capable of HDR. The Active 3d was ok, the flickering got to me as you can see it on the sides when your in a dark environment. You had the ability to convert 2d to 3d but the glasses would chew up batteries like a big breakfast meal in the morning.
I returned it and purchased a Sony 55 xbr900c which was a good TV. The colors were good and the 4k up-scaling was great and the HDR was decent. It had passive 3d and it was great as well, although it could not convert 2d to 3d and you could not use the 3d feature on the apps like Kodi which had a very extensive 3d catalog , I was fine with it. The reason I returned the TV was due to a very serious problem the 55xbr900c has which is a real bad light bleed on the bottom portion of the screen mainly at the corners. Its bad enough to return the TV just based on that.
So now I ended up with the LG 55UH8500 and I am very impressed by it. The colors are amazing and the 4k up-scaling is incredible. The passive 3d is really done well. I see a very little to no cross talk , and the sharpness is on point where everything in 3d looks amazing. It can also have a lot to do with Avatar, it is just an amazing movie with great color, visual effects, and all that other good stuff.
The HDR is outstanding and the set has the ability to convert any signal to HDR in the picture options like if it was up-scaling a 1080p to 4K is a huge plus. Tried it with Avatar in 3d it and was simply amazing. This set does HDR and Dolby vision which is a good future proofing TV as you have the both standards that are competing for market dominance.
Marco Polo in HDR on this set was better than the other 2. It was crisp and clear to the point were it looks like your looking through a window, but the window is open and it does not have a bug screen.
Only thing I find not too pleasing is that in a very dark room the blacks and not like that of a Plasma or Oled but I rather deal with that than light bleed from the corners.
Playing Video games on the set is very good. I don't notice any input lag.
I have to say I am very Happy with this TV.

Best 3d 4K UHD Tv with Dolby Vision and HDR

This is my first 4k TV. I initially had plan to go for Vizio P Series 2016. But I am not fan of tablet and casting. LG 55UH8500 TV looked stunning in front of Vizio 2016 P series at local best buy store. I was worried about non-4k content upscaling on Vizio P series and leaned towards LG UH8500
This TV has excellent 4k, Upscaling of non-4k content is great. 3D is excellent. Sound quality is good too.
I had chance to look at HDR on Netflix and it looked stunning. I am not an expert but this is the best TV I have owned so far.

Bought this TV in Jan 2017. Shortly after we bought it the display failed and was replaced under warranty. We have used it for 6+ hours almost everyday. 3D still works great. Sound has always been wonderful, especially love the different preset picture and sound settings. We like this LG TV so much that we're in a Best Buy right now cheking out the newest LG TVs.

Upgraded from a 2014 Vizio P series 4K set. My main reasons for doing this was wanting something larger than 50 inches and wanting an HDR capable set. After looking through several sets I decided on this 55 inch LG. I have been Vizio faithful since my first set in 2009. Great picture quality. Up scaling works well. Dolby Vision is on another level! Sound is great despite what other reviews may say. H/K sound is awesome!

Best Picture--Worth the cost

Before I purchase any item in this price range, I do extensive reviews (CNET, Amazon, Best Buy, etc). I will keep this simple and short: I purchased this TV at Bestbuy and could not be more pleased. We use all features: 3D, Video games, online, Netflix, etc. My wife loves the Steelers, so live sports are watched frequently. I like the simplicity of the Magic Remote. Don't settle for cheaper, lower quality TV's, you will be sorry. Quality is not cheap: Most highly recommend to anyone!

i like everything about this tv playing 4k ultra hd movies look way better on a hdr tv like this then a regular non-hdr 4k tv and dolby vision wont be addd on till april 7th from my understanding but i like everthing about this tv im using sports mode for picture mode for my cable and when you watch 4k ultra hd blu-ray movies in the new samsung 4k player it switches to a hdr standard, bright, or vivid, picture mode i like the vivid one the most blu-rays look great to but what a difference a hdr tv makes compared to a non hdr 4k tv cant wait till dolby vision comes out in the next update next week.

I didn't intend to buy a new 4K UHD LG 55" TV. But after 30 minutes the sales person had me hooked. (Must be the training). I love my TV. 3D works great. 4KUHD is second to the more expensive OLED TVs.
I never knew what I was missing with a Smart TV until I bought one.
My only regret is after a month LG discontinued this model. (frown) but I'm very satisfied with LG. I've never been disappointed with any LG appliance or device I've purchased.

I did lots of research before buying this TV. I knew I wanted a TV with 4k and 3 D. I knew I wanted to pay less than $2k and needed a 3D bluray player as well and I wanted a warranty on both.
So I purchased the LG 55UH8500 as well as the samsung 3d 4k bluray player.
Bestbuy geeks came out and installed it and gave me a quick lesson and left so I put in Star Wars the Force Awakens 3d dvd and put on my glasses and was so disappointed that I almost sent the TV back right there.
I am glad I didn't. It took me 2 days of messing around with the settings but I put in Guardians of the Galaxy and all the sudden it was like I was in the imax theater! It was so crisp and clear in 3d. So then I put in New X-Men in 3d dvd and it was great too. Then came the big test. I put back in Star Wars and was amazed at how a little tweeting of the advanced picture settings (turning off energy savings, adjusting the the depth, the contrast, the color, the tint, and using either cinema or sports mode made all the dideference in the viewing of 3d content. I am so happy now.
I do suggest that LG and Sony should provide 3d setting guides to their customers because the best buy geeks were not train well enough and had never installed this TV before.
Also LG should have the you tube tutorials available in english and explained by someone who English is his or her first language. The guys Indian accent was so thick I could not understand him.

I loved this TV for the 7 weeks we were together. All was great. Excellent picture, plenty of functionality, This was just a great TV. Then one day I noticed some lines on the screen. A couple of days later, after I contacted Geek Squad, the TV was on. I stepped out of the room and heard a loud popping sound from the TV. I went back into the room, and the picture was shot. Whatever happened actually melted the glass in the left corner of the screen.
About a week later Geek Squad rolls up, looks at it for 30 seconds, says its physical damage and tells me they are not working on it. Manager from the store tells me the same thing, tells me to take it up with LG and they are done.
WTF is this? I can see if the screen is broken, shattered or apparently damaged from the front, then sure, no problem, I'm screwed. But the physical damage they are referring as a reason not to help me has obviously been done from the inside the display. This should be covered under warranty! I don't know if its Best Buy or LG or both, but this is not right. You spend $1400 on a TV, $300 on service plan and you get 7 weeks of beautiful, glorious TV watching. The manager did offer to refund the protection plan, which I accepted, but now i have an awesome TV which is useless to me.
I have attempted to contact LG. First response was some rambling "auto reply" email that made no sense and was just step one. I'm taking this as far as I can take it. This is unacceptable.
In summary, very nice TV. I question long term reliability due to my experiences. Best Buy worthless in their support, they have just lost a customer. LG will probably tell me to go pound sand too. If so, LG will have lost one also.
I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience with this particular TV

An amazing TV. Easy to set up, easy to program the "Magic Remote". The picture quality is amazing, and the cinema 3D works flawlessly (Watching The 5th Element in simulated 3D was pretty cool).
