    Love Our New Fridge!

We've only had our fridge for a week, but we already love it! The space and layout of the shelves/drawers allow for much greater food storage capacity and the dual ice makers are terrific. The folding shelf is a great perk, allowing you to store very tall items if needed. My only complaint so far is that one of the fridge doors doesn't open as wide as the other. Not sure if this is by design or if it's specific to our fridge. It is also important to note that the fridge temperature inside the door-in-door section is about 6-7 degrees warmer than the interior fridge. This means that you should set your fridge temp a little lower than you might normally, just to ensure that items in the door-in-door section are kept nice and cold. I found that the interior fridge and freezer keep temps true to what they're set at. LG successfully combined style and functionality with this fridge.

    Better get Geek Squad Protection

I purchased this refrigerator in March 2017. We liked everything about it. It has more space inside, the door in door was great and I really liked having the second icemaker. 363 days later, nothing was cooling. Luckily, it has a 1 year manufacturer's warranty since I chose not to get the extended warranty. A $3000.00 refrigerator should last, right? Anyway, I called LG. That's where things got bad. The number is in the Philippines and I was on hold for over 45 minutes. The people were polite but no help. There were no service techs in my area. This went on for 22 days. I would call a couple times a week to see if they had found someone, and each time the minimum hold was 30 minutes. I requested to speak to someone in the US and was put through to "Jessica". She was by far the rudest person I dealt with. After over 3 weeks of not having a refrigerator (family of 5), they finally got someone out to replace the compressor. Bottom line, if you have to have it, get the extended warranty.

    Not one regret

I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy the pull out freezer, but it's great! The upper shelf in the freezer keeps my food from becoming a frozen mess. It's not just a dumping ground for frozen items. The divider helps as well. My last fridge had the ice container right inside the door. Smart idea except the ice kept getting stuck. The cubes on this model are just small enough to avoid blockage completely. Then there's ice bin in the freezer section in case I need more. I feel spoiled! The refrigerator section with the French doors is wonderful. I rarely need both doors open at the same time, but am able to put long and bulky items in with no problem. I can adjust the shelves on both sides to fit my need. I love the 3 divisions for fruits and vegetables. It allows me to separate older items easily to make room for new. A long thin drawer underneath holds deli meats and cheese. On the right door is my most used feature. Condiments, milk, OJ and tea pitcher fit nicely without opening the entire unit. My food stays fresh much longer. It has been about half a year and I am still thrilled with my purchase.

    Beware LG's linear compressor

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This refrigerator uses a linear compressor, which LG has used for the last 7-8 years. The compressor appears to have a high failure rate (in the 3-6 year range). Even though the compressor is warranted for 10 years, if the compressor goes after 1 year and you don’t have an extended warrantee, the bill for repair is in the $800-1000 range despite LG providing the compressor. To our dismay as well, the compressor in our 5 year French door refrigerator failed catastrophically and there was acidic oil and metal filings (evidently from the compressor) injected into the coolant tubes which cannot be adequately cleaned or replaced. The LG certified repairman recommended replacement as he could not in good faith recommend repairing it, However, since the refrigerator was over 1 year old, LG offered no compensation whatsoever. The entire process was lengthy (more than 6 weeks – initially waiting for parts and then LG recommendations as to what to do), only for us to learn we are in need of a new refrigerator. By email or telephone everyone appears to be clueless as to what was going on and the buck seems to be passed along to various departments, and a clear answer is never forthcoming. The goal of the support service appears to be to frustrate you enough so that you stop trying to contact them. There are many repair forums with similar stories. I would strongly discourage anyone from buying any LG refrigerator with a linear compressor.

We have had this LG refrigerator since 2017. It is a great product for all our large items as well as the small. Dual ice maker has been very useful when needed. The reason I give this product a 4 star is because of the design. I could not get one of the crisper drawers out to clean.

Purchased this new in January 2018 and have been happy with it since. It is now September 2022 and the compressor went bad, which is a common issue with this refrigerator. I do have the Total Tech/Geek Squad warranty and worked like a charm to replace the compressor. I feel this will last many more years to come. Thanks LG for a great refrigerator.

Solid refrigerator. The icemaker only lasted just over 3 years however we use it all the time with 4 kids. It is spacious and has great space utilization features. I especially like the drink door so you don't have to open the refrigerator to get access to the common beverages.

    Good fridge but bad compressors

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this fridge November 25th 2016. Without warning it quit cooling and freezing and I lost most the contents. The compressor had gone out and while the part was covered the labor was not. $536 for a service call and 1 1/2 hours to install the new part on a $3,000 fridge that is less than 3 years old. The repairman said it's because the inline compressor runs 24 hours a day vs turning on and off and that he's replaced them on LG fridges less than a year old and you're lucky to get 4-6 years on the compressor. While I love everything else about this fridge, I definitely won't buy another one.

    Wanted to love this refrigerator

Our family upgraded our old refrigerator with this one from LG. We absolutely loved this refrigerator. It was roomy, dual ice makers, and the interior lighting was great. However, in less than a year and a half the compressor suddenly failed with no warning. Luckily we purchased the 5 year protection plan from BB. When i called to have someone come out and look at the problem, i found out that BB did not have anyone qualified to work on a (closed system) compressor system and it had to be sub contracted out for the work. I am hearing now (over 2 weeks later) that BB and LG are in negotiations concerning repair or replace the unit entirely. We did really love this refrigerator, but if it is replaced we will most likely look for another brand. Less than 18 months and a failure of the most important part of the unit leaves us very nervous about this refrigerator. Buyer Beware with LG refrigerators.

    Great Cooling/ Bad Dependability

I have own this unit for less than a year when suddenly the compressor went out, and to add insult to injury the "smart diagnosis" could find no problem with the unit. It is still within the units original warranty but it will take the LG tech 5 days just to come look at it. I researched the brand/model for months before i purchased it. The reviewers mostly loved the unit. So did i until it went out in less than a year and now I see other owners having the same issue. I do not recommend this model. On the plus side LG customer service was very helpful.

This fridge was great, but recently the sealed system failed and it stopped cooling. Parts are covered under Seal System warranty but labor is not. It is going to cost us over $650 in labor to fix a $3000 fridge less than 3 years old. Repair man says LG knows they have an issue with that part and is why they offer the 7 yr coverage on it. Unfortunate that it didn't last longer.

The fridge and it's features were pretty well thought out. However it had one major flaw: The in-door ice machine is too small for my family of three. We would find ourselves running out of ice during the day. Then recently our fridge stopped getting cold and eventually we had to throw everything out. Turns out the compressor went out on a two-year-old fridge. I am SO happy I bought the five-year warranty! The repair took several weeks since they had trouble finding a compressor. When they finally did three weeks later, that compressor did not work either. Best Buy decided to replace our fridge, no hassle. We are going with a Samsung this time of the same style with 3x the ice capacity and a standard 10-year warranty on the compressor.

LG SUCKS, THIS FRIDGE SUCKS WORSE

I have had this fridge for 17 months. Works great when it works. Bottom freezer secondary ice tray broke. Out of warranty. This morning everything in the fridge is thawed and rotten. LG support says 3 weeks for repair at my cost. Retailer I bought from says 5 days. So....buy this fridge if you want to replace inside of 2 years. If not, avoid at all costs....high costs apparently. Everyone with a 3, 4 or 5 star review on here has just gotten this . I own it and have owned it and it breaks. You will be disappointed with this junker after a few months. People please when your LG wish-i-could junker breaks, come take down your high reviews and stop duping customers.

After only having this fridge 1 year and 10 days it died!!! I woke up to a full fridge of non cold food. (of course I had just did my food shopping for the next couple of weeks) so we start to see whats going on and use the LG smart diagnostic tool and are told by LG its a temperature sensor that needs to be fixed and they will pay for it. Ok great! NOPE we were told all services techs in our area declined to FIX IT. So I call the repairs store to see why no one wants to fix it. apparently LG says they will pay but then doesn't actually like to pay the repair men and it takes them 6 months to see any money. so obviously no one wants to work on them! DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR DO NOT BUY THIS OR ANY LG PRODUCT!

I was warned by the technician on my last one not to buy and LG, however they looked to all be the same. It all depends on if you are lucky or not. In my case, I received the wrong luck. The thing stopped working after two months, I did buy the service plan which I thought would help the situation. I has not, they cannot get the parts to fix this. I hope you all do not have to go through the same as we are facing Thanksgiving at our home with 40 people but our Fridge is on the fritz.

Compressor failure just past the one-year mark. They advertise a 5-year parts and labor warranty on the compressor, but mine broke and they tell me it's a parts-only warranty, so I have to pay $700+ for labor to fix it. When I called about a bad compressor at one year, the repair company asked me if it was an LG! Bad compressors are a known problem for LG. I'm going to try and fight the warranty denial on principal, but that's probably a waste of time with a foreign manufacturer. It's very disappointing from a company that makes great TV's and small electronics, but they apparently cannot get the big stuff right. FWIW, the repairman recommended Whirlpool. Best Buy sells those, so that's what I'll do next time.

My fridge stopped working after 2 years. LG made me wait 2 weeks to send someone to fix. I had to hire my own repair guy and paid 500.00 for the repair . He replaced dryer and compressor. It worked for 1 day and now it is not cooling again. LG is a terrible product and customer service is worst! They don't stand behind their products. NEVER AGAIN!

Scrapping it after only 32 months

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We loved this fridge when it worked, but that's all over now! First, the icemaker started squirting water all over and freezing up so we couldn't get ice, and we were informed that we would need a whole new door to the tune of $600. While waiting for the door to ship, the whole refrigerator stopped cooling. Everything in our fridge and freezer was ruined. The Geek Squad said it was a "sealed system issue," which he was not authorized to work on. I called LG for an authorized serviceman, and they gave me two who would not work on this fridge. I called back and they said if I found a repairman (myself), they would send a letter authorizing them to work on it. The sealed system parts are covered under warranty, but not the labor, and this fridge is only 32 months old. The company I found said they have had many desperate LG customers needing warranty work, because their refrigerators are breaking, too! We are not spending $1,000 to fix a $2,500 fridge when the repairs aren't even guaranteed. We will NEVER buy LG again.
